Accessed from Scioto-Darby bordering its north, the park is tucked between neighborhoods, fields, and golf courses. Mark K. mentioned in his review circa 2015 that there was no easy bike connection between Homestead park and here. In the five years since that weakness has been rectified with an off-road bike path running down Lappert Rd. This is the way I cycled here. Just turn south from the Heritage Trail, left at the round-a-bout at Darby, and cross the street into the bike access. The park was eerily silent for the sunny summer Saturday I visited on my ride. Normally you'd expect the place to be jumping on such a gorgeous day, but the pandemic has damper things. Connected to that fact, the public pool here is closed for the year. Normally, the Family Aquatic Center, as it is called, would be full of swimmers using its leisure pool, sports pool, lazy river, slides, and children sections. Now it has a weird, abandon amusement park feel, with the rides sticking up like ruins over the wall, and ghostly echoes of screams, laughs, and splashes that should be here coming to mine in the quiet. What I call a 'sports park' the grounds hold fields for baseball/softball, lacrosse, soccer, and disk golf. Basketball courts and tennis are of course are found, as well as horseshoe ring. There is a small amphitheater and a large sledding hill half-mooning the grounds like a Native American mound. There are some art park landscaping here, especially near the fishing pond, a rustic body split by a wood bridge. There are several shelter houses here to rent. The running/riding trail isn't all that great, but it does breeze through the heart of the park. There are several connectors that leads to and from the surrounding neighborhoods. There is also a rustic food garden found here. On the east is a Veterans Memorial garden with colorful flowers, waving flags, and reflective stones ingrained with locals who gave the ultimate price. In all a good city park with lots of amenities, easy access, and just enough artwork to give it character.

The building is rather odd with a poorly thought out design. The basketball court is at the south…read morearea, swimming pool at the north, and athletic equipment in an L shaped area at the center. Bodybuilders using weights are at the smaller part of the L shape in the south-west area of the building. The walls of the basketball court do not go all the way up to the ceiling so yelling, screaming, and thumping noises easily propagate throughout the building as do clanking sounds from the weight lifting area. Walls, floors, and the interior of the roof of this huge open space are all hard surfaces which exacerbate the noise problem. There are several TV's on the south wall but no remote control(s) to channel select. Speakers abound throughout the building often with annoying music that is more often than not in the foreground rather than background. This only serves to add to the ambient noise level. There are other oddities as well such as no place at the entrance to hang winter coats, rain coats, boots, umbrellas, etc. There are however, small lockable cubicles near the entrance where a rolled up jacket or other small items can be stowed. If you have large bulky winter items, it would be best to shed them and leave them in your car. The locker rooms are also lacking where lockers are just half-height and stacked one above the other. Having just one toilet and one urinal, this is grossly inadequate for the scores of members and staff using the building. And strangely, paper towel dispensers are numerous for wiping down the machines however none are to be found in the restrooms. Oddly, included under the hand blower is a trash container for paper towels that do not exist. When the blower runs, the plastic liner blows out into your face. Lastly, whoever designed the parking area was totally clueless. There is not enough space between the double rows of parking slots making getting in and out of spaces tight and difficult. Care must be taken as to not back into one of the other parked cars. Other than the oddities outlined, it's a welcomed addition to the community.

This place holds some good memories for me as my grandma used to bring me there when I was a kid. We'd find a table and have ourselves a picnic lunch of Kentucky Fried Chicken. It was and still is a nice place for a picnic, a walk or to simply relax. It's still the same 46 acres of greenery, tall trees, paved walking pathways, along with a cement pond, shelter house and more. It's clean and attractive and it's held up well in it's 90 years. They even picked up that old chicken drumstick I dropped on the ground years ago. I know it's on the west side of Columbus but don't think that I've lost my marbles when I tell you to go there and check this place out. Don't be afraid of the area. The west side is a little shabby these days but it's not unsafe. The Westgate neighborhood though is nice, very nice actually and it shares that same middle class bourgeois lifestyle that Grandview and Clintonville have and this park reflects that. So feel free to take your KFC, bento boxes or maybe some organic chicken wraps and have yourself a picnic there. Like everyone else, I like this place so I'll give Westgate Park 4 stars.

The McKnight Outdoor Education Center is a great offering from Columbus Recreation and Parks. It is…read morelocated near Duranceau Park and offers two lodges, Ottawa and Wyandot, plus a really nice area to hike around and enjoy caves and the creek. We held an event at the Wyandot Lodge that included a program led by the education center staff, and it was excellent. It was quick and easy to make the reservation, and the staff was fantastic throughout the event. All of the guests had an excellent time and were excited to find out about this resource. There are some wonderful animals in Wyandot Lodge to look at too.

With a sweet, super-shallow world for the little ones including all sorts of spraying water, fountains and a little slide, to larger slides for the bigger kids and a 13' (i think it's 13' at least) deep lane/diving pool for everyone in-between. Staff is very friendly and courteous, and the whole place is clean and well kempt. My only criticism, and this is more from my whiny kids than me, is the limited candy selection at the snack bar! Great place to spend some quality family time on a summer afternoon. Translation: take your kids here and you might get a couple of hours to sit quietly and go to your mind palace while they run around and make each other tired. Highly recommend!!

The park is nice, with a very pretty creek and some sports fields. The rec center is small, but worked fine for little kids playing basketball. Seems a bit rundown. Staff were very friendly.
