Easy access off Karl, big parking lot. Friendly, helpful staff- every person I've talked to has been super helpful. Great workout room, lots of machines and weights. Treadmills have slick modern screens so you can look at parks/paths etc., social media, movies, whatever. Could use a couple more cleaning stations. Wallet lockers at entry. Swimming pool smaller than other Ys, just lanes, no open areas. Lifeguard breaks every couple hours. Men's entry from locker room is through back of showers. Men's locker room is pretty crummy- rusty broken lockers, worn areas, dirty, wet. Facility in general is clean, open, easy to find stuff and get around. There is a big gym, smaller classrooms, and more. Loads of classes and events. Playground out back. Good rates, especially for families. read more

This was a place that I used to come to all the time with my kids and it was a safe haven so it was a marker. If anything ever happened this is where we would meet up. People are staff are very helpful. Very kind, very friendly. The facilities are great. The men's locker room has a steam room and sauna and hot tub off to itself, so it's no coed. However, the steam rooms usually broken down but the weight room is fully filled with every piece of equipment that you ever need. The cardio room as well. I have been coming to the North YMCA branch since 2012. I have predominantly have used the pool exclusively, but have worked out on the equipment which I am slowly getting back to. They have had numerous aquatic directors for a while, but the longest without the pool being open was 8-9 months due not finding the right Aquatic Director and the lifeguard shortage continues even after the COVID-19 Pandemic. In 2022, they hired Cass Dunn as the new Aquatic Director. Cass is wonderful because she was able to get lifeguards despite the shortage, bringing back swim lessons and classes, and more. I took advantage of the free membership at the YMCA of Central Ohio with the partnership with Special Olympics Ohio and the YMCA branches in the state of Ohio. The YMCA of Central Ohio talked about building a branch at the Ohio School for the Deaf, but it never materialized because the North YMCA is still close to Clintonville and it's easy for me to get there on the COTA bus or Uber very early in the morning. Also, I am taking advantage of the free membership with personal training for free with Valemee. I am very happy to part of the North YMCA and the membership is good for all the YMCA branches in Central Ohio. read more

I'm so sick of this place. I workout after work, and it seems like they will close for ANY reason! With no notice! Just pull up and the doors are locked. Today, it's because they are setting up for a naturalization ceremony and the blonde that FINALLY came to the door was so casually flippant with her "I'm sorry". Not acceptable. Used to go as a kid, was in town visiting family and got a week guest pass. Totally worth it. Staff was kind and the gym was nice and clean.

This place has it's ups and downs. The indoor pool is surprisingly nice and kept up despite the peanut budget. The weight room leaves much to be desired. The gym is actually quite nice and the floor is redone yearly. Overall, it is a YMCA built 40 years ago which is in a less than desirable area (this isn't Dublin or New Albany). But the staff is nice and helpful, and it is hard to beat the price of a YMCA! read more

The staff here are always friendly and the pool is great! I come early morning to swim laps and afternoon to workout and I never have to wait on equipment or for a lane in the pool. Everything is usually pretty clean. Great place to work out or bring the family! read more

I drove quite a ways to get to his ymca to bring a friend. She was interested in checking out the gym and wanted to take a class with me. I frequent the grove city location, but her house is closer to this one. We get all the way there to find out 'they don't do guest passes on Monday' that's a joke right? I pay to have a whopping 3 passes a year and now I can't use it (on the slowest day of the week, probably). The parking lot was pretty empty so it really wouldn't have killed anyone to let us check out the gym. read more

This is my home Y, and while it's not as glamorous as the the suburban Ys, it has many advantages. The classes for kids are well-run and never crowded. The pool is usually available for lap swimming, and the machines are up to date. And I love the diversity of the members. read more

This YMCA leaves a lot to be desired it is really apparent that it was built 40 years ago. I go here because it's so much closer than the otherwise most of the time it it is very dirty. So make sure you take a shower and get cleaned up after you go to this Y. The dressing rooms do not even have hooks to hang your clothing or towels - you don't want to set anything on the floor either. The accessibility is marginal at best. There should be grab bars installed all over the place but there is only one and it's in the small handicapped toilet stall is crazy. Some of the showers have a tile step to get over to get in the stall and there is a "trough" for the water run off. Water pools everywhere in the uneven floor of the women's locker room. NO SAFETY BARS in the showers either. I'm not sure how often they actually clean the place or what they use but a couple of scrub brushes and some bleach would go a long way in helping to keep it clean. Some of the things to make it more safe and accessible are cheap fixes - it's not rocket science people! Maybe talk to someone who is disabled about what would make the place better ( grab bars , hooks on the walls, etc.). The pool is difficult to get in and out of - one set of steep steps. There is a lift and I would suggest using it. Same thing with the whirlpool - that first step is a real doozie as is the last step. Doubtful it is up to code and definitely violates accessibility laws. I know they get inspected by the health dept but they are barely meeting regulations. I suspect laziness or apathy in the part of the state inspectors. I'm married to an inspector and know of the many regs required. They are NOT meeting all of them. Overall, it's just a sad, unsafe, old-old-old YMCA very much past it's prime. Staff is not up to par either. There are a few very pleasant staff but most are apathetic & have minimal knowledge or desire to provide even minimal customer service. Not much strong work ethic here. This area needs the Y and it is easy to get to but it's sad this is what is acceptable by the YMCA. You shouldn't have to go to a Y that is far from your area & in a wealthier community. read more

This YMCA is apart of my fine childhood memory, I remember spending a lot of time on this YMCA growing up. That being said there is a lot of things that are still the same but at the end of the day this YMCA does provide a lot for its members as a community fitness center. read more

The free classes are great! My wife and I take advantage of the Child Watch program so we can better focus on our fitness. The indoor pool is nice. I only wish they'd expand the hours of Child Watch to cover the times for all the afternoon group classes. That would be a big help to those with children and a fixed schedule. read more

The YMCA of Central Ohio is also called YMCA North. I think that they do a great job keeping everything clean and repairing damaged equipment to include things like drinking fountains. The staff is VERY friendly and what really sold us on our membership. For the most part, the other members are pretty friendly and respectful as well. The price of the membership is fair considering that if you sign up with a child, childcare is free for up to 2hrs. The staff for the child care that we use is just awesome and we like them all - they are all patient with the kids and seem to have fun as well. There are also plenty of activities for children there as well. We're currently enrolled in a yoga course and the instructor is amazing. Haven't taken any other courses to be able to really say anything about them. I'm not really someone who uses weights a whole lot so I can't speak to that either however there is definitely a variety of free weights and machines. I haven't used the pool yet but it's very clean when we check it out. The gymnasium is also in good order but I haven't had a need to use it for anything either. This facility also has a couple of racquetball courts which are usually in use when we are there but are also kept in good order. If you sign up to use one, they can provide you the racquets and the ball. Overall I really enjoy the Y but the reason for the 4*s as opposed to 5 is the parking lot. It's very small therefore on peak days, you'll see people parking out in the streets. This makes it difficult for people to attend their scheduled classes on some days. read more
