I first made an appointment over the phone and the staff on the line were professional and an appointment was made on my preferred date. When I arrived, it was early but the place was already quite busy but the staff remained calm and friendly. The reception/waiting area was beautifully furbished, clean and well-maintained. While I was waiting, a lady came to water the plants and pluck out dead leaves and a handyman came to fix/clean the air conditioner. The waiting room was infused with some aromatherapy smell and played relaxing "massage/yoga" music. They had professionally printed treatment lists and literature, which gave me confidence that they would be offering a high standard of service. The prices are very reasonable. You could even purchase a £30 for £60 deal on the Yelp App and if you Check-In here, you get 40% off your first treatment! (I will almost definitely be treating myself again after this visit!)

It's pretty much a universal reaction amongst the girls, whilst men either stare blankly as if to say 'eh?' or nudge each other and go 'fnurr fnurr! Eh! Eh! Hehehehe!' like excited monkeys. And nine times out of ten, I'm not even talking about this place because of its waxing of down-there hair. You see, despite its fear-inducing name, Brazilian Waxing Co does more than just your ladygarden. I've been coming here since it opened a couple of years ago, for various treatments but one in particular. Eyebrow threading. If you haven't heard of it, or you're not sure what it is, you only need to know three things: one, it's quicker than plucking, and more precise than waxing; two, it lasts longer; and three, it really, really bloody hurts! But it is so worth it; when I'm done with my threading, I look in the mirror and the pain instantly fades; all I can think of is how great my eyebrows look. As any girl will tell you, a good eyebrow lifts the face. The threading treatments I have had here have always been top-notch, excellent value at £7 and I would recommend it as the best place for threading in Manchester. The only place that tops it is a salon I visit when I'm in London. So, if you need your eyebrows done, you know where to go, but what of the rest of their treatments? Well, I'm not gonna go into too much detail for the faint hearted amongst you, but the bikini waxing service is efficient and they try and make you as comfortable as possible. There's no need to be embarrassed, these girls have seen thousands of downstairses, and they'll see thousands more. What makes me slightly uncomfortable is the design of the shop and treatment rooms, which are basically enclosed booths. The walls don't reach all the way to the ceiling, and sound carries pretty well, so it's hard to relax completely. The basic bikini wax is £10, Brazilian £20, and they'll take it all off for £25 (in for a penny, in for a pound, as my wise old nan might say). In terms of what else they wax; pretty much whatever you want. Arms, legs, tummies, chins. And yes, boys, they do offer the back, sack and crack, at an eye-watering (you're not wrong there...) £50. They also do lash and brow tinting for both genders (in case your manscara isn't quite cutting it...) So if you've got unwanted hair, anywhere, get down to Brazilian Waxing Co.

Harriet came on high recommendations from a friend and I would recommend her to anyone. Friendly team and excellent service. Harriet is fast and my gel nails always look fab and last longer than any others I've had in the past. You also get offered a complimentary glass of bubbles which goes down a tear while getting your nails pampered. Gel nails cost £22 with removal of previous set included. I recently had my gels off which is £5 or free with any service, so I opted for a file and polish which cost £8 and lasted literally 10 days before it started to chip. Amazing! You can book online and I would highly recommend Harriet's service for nails. I can't comment on other beauticians as haven't experienced their services.

She doesn't judge me for my low pain threshold and gets the job done quickly and as pain free as possible. It's excellent value for money and a lovely salon too. A very personal service, and you even get a discount in the week running up to and just after your birthday! Couldn't recommend them more!

Also being crammed into economy class with little room to stretch my legs and back doesn't help finding the energy to get back to work or relax. But after coming back from Vegas, my last 10 hour flight, I was determined to get back into balance a bit quicker with a little help from Bali Spa. Conveniently situated in the heart of the city centre, it was only a short walk in my delirious jetlag state through the streets of China Town to find this gem of a SPA. Leaving Manchester behind once you walk up the first floor, you truly feel like you are back on holiday! Yay prolonging the relaxation and easing the jet lag. The luxurious interior of Bali spreads over three floor and is about the most beautiful seeting I have seen in any location in Manchester so far. Its surprisingly quiet and airy, given the busy location. You are instantly welcomed by the friendly staff and find yourself lounging on the comfy sofa, sipping a glass of Aloe Juice or tea. After your treatment you are also welcome to stay and are not ushered out for the next appointment waiting. Their treatments range from various types of massages, manicures and pedicures to facial treatments using PAYOT products. I was booked in for a full Indian head and neck massage, of 60 minutes and welcomed by Anna, who explained the whole procedure in detail. She also made sure I was not allergic to any of the ingredients used on my skin. I can be quite sensitive to anything scented so I decided to stay away from lavender or tea tree old. She was also very gentle and professional in her approach, all her movements were executed as a choreography, knowing exactly where to apply pressure. To be honest I am fairly hesitant to trust someone to give me a massage as I know how much damage can be done with the wrong technique, but felt in absolutely safe hands here.

The Castlefield Spa, a little diamond of a place located inside the Castlefield Hotel on Liverpool…read moreRoad, has a party pamper package to give you that extra boost of confidence for your night on the town. Combining a manicure, spray tan and party lashes, it sounded like a fab primping opportunity, so we checked it out. CND shellac manicures are all the rage, and rightly so. When applied correctly, your polish endures for up to two weeks with nary a chip or peel in sight. And with about 80 CND colours on the market, there is bound to be a shade that screams your name. By the way, I have fallen prey to 'express' shellac offers. It sounds attractive.....long lasting nail colour in 20 minutes time. I ended up being very disappointed with the results; once, the colour peeled off one nail in a large cohesive piece the same night of the manicure. Which made me think shellac was whack. Not true. Like the tooth fairy, there is no such thing as express shellac, as I learned from the lovely Sarah, the highly-trained beautician who took very good care of me that day. The nail bed needs to be properly prepared and completely free of dirt, dead nail cells, oil etc etc in order for the polish to bond correctly. This takes time, but the results are spectacular. I can't stop holding my hands out in front of me and marvelling at how puuuurty n' shiny my nails are. And the lovely thing about Castlefield Spa is if, for some crazy reason, you do chip a nail, just pop in and it will be repaired free of charge. Removal is free of charge as well (it is advised that you do not remove yourself as you may damage your nails). Maintenance tips are provided to make sure your colour lasts as long as possible. Next on the list were the party lashes, or Lash In A Flash, which can last a remarkable 2 to 3 weeks when cared for properly. They come in small, medium and large sizes depending on your preference. I opted for medium, although in retrospect I should have gone with small. But no biggie as I just trimmed them slightly to the desired length. Each cluster of lashes is glued to the edge of your eyelid, and it will sting a tiny bit when being applied. And you may feel like a large spider is camping out on your lid when you first open your eyes. But these babies are secure. There are of course some things you need to avoid to make them last, nothing major though. Again, free removal is available so don't try yanking them out yourself. Finally my St. Tropez spray tan was applied. I've had spray tans at other spas that left my skin super tacky and my bed sheets looked like I had a roll around with a massive chocolate bar (if only) the next morning. What makes St. Tropez different is how light it is; smells very nice too. But the bestest part is that there is no need to wait the usual 24 hours before showering like other spray tans. You decide how deep you would like the tan to set (2 hours for light, 3 hours medium, 4 hours dark) and you are free to wash off the application. I left it for 2 hours and have a nice little sun kissed glow...I would look ridiculous with a deep tan. Irish people weren't built for tans. And doesn't cellulite look significantly less horrible with a little colour on top of it? I waited 2 days before writing this review to see how everything settled in, and I'm tickled pink with the results. Everything looks fantastic, if I don't mind saying so myself. What's even better is there is a killer offer on this package. Only £40 for all three treatments. That's a savings of £24.
