Whenever I mention the Brazilian Waxing Co to my female friends, the reaction is always the same;…read morethey go white, cross their legs and say 'oooph!' It's pretty much a universal reaction amongst the girls, whilst men either stare blankly as if to say 'eh?' or nudge each other and go 'fnurr fnurr! Eh! Eh! Hehehehe!' like excited monkeys. And nine times out of ten, I'm not even talking about this place because of its waxing of down-there hair. You see, despite its fear-inducing name, Brazilian Waxing Co does more than just your ladygarden. I've been coming here since it opened a couple of years ago, for various treatments but one in particular. Eyebrow threading. If you haven't heard of it, or you're not sure what it is, you only need to know three things: one, it's quicker than plucking, and more precise than waxing; two, it lasts longer; and three, it really, really bloody hurts! But it is so worth it; when I'm done with my threading, I look in the mirror and the pain instantly fades; all I can think of is how great my eyebrows look. As any girl will tell you, a good eyebrow lifts the face. The threading treatments I have had here have always been top-notch, excellent value at £7 and I would recommend it as the best place for threading in Manchester. The only place that tops it is a salon I visit when I'm in London. So, if you need your eyebrows done, you know where to go, but what of the rest of their treatments? Well, I'm not gonna go into too much detail for the faint hearted amongst you, but the bikini waxing service is efficient and they try and make you as comfortable as possible. There's no need to be embarrassed, these girls have seen thousands of downstairses, and they'll see thousands more. What makes me slightly uncomfortable is the design of the shop and treatment rooms, which are basically enclosed booths. The walls don't reach all the way to the ceiling, and sound carries pretty well, so it's hard to relax completely. The basic bikini wax is £10, Brazilian £20, and they'll take it all off for £25 (in for a penny, in for a pound, as my wise old nan might say). In terms of what else they wax; pretty much whatever you want. Arms, legs, tummies, chins. And yes, boys, they do offer the back, sack and crack, at an eye-watering (you're not wrong there...) £50. They also do lash and brow tinting for both genders (in case your manscara isn't quite cutting it...) So if you've got unwanted hair, anywhere, get down to Brazilian Waxing Co.

Also being crammed into economy class with little room to stretch my legs and back doesn't help finding the energy to get back to work or relax. But after coming back from Vegas, my last 10 hour flight, I was determined to get back into balance a bit quicker with a little help from Bali Spa. Conveniently situated in the heart of the city centre, it was only a short walk in my delirious jetlag state through the streets of China Town to find this gem of a SPA. Leaving Manchester behind once you walk up the first floor, you truly feel like you are back on holiday! Yay prolonging the relaxation and easing the jet lag. The luxurious interior of Bali spreads over three floor and is about the most beautiful seeting I have seen in any location in Manchester so far. Its surprisingly quiet and airy, given the busy location. You are instantly welcomed by the friendly staff and find yourself lounging on the comfy sofa, sipping a glass of Aloe Juice or tea. After your treatment you are also welcome to stay and are not ushered out for the next appointment waiting. Their treatments range from various types of massages, manicures and pedicures to facial treatments using PAYOT products. I was booked in for a full Indian head and neck massage, of 60 minutes and welcomed by Anna, who explained the whole procedure in detail. She also made sure I was not allergic to any of the ingredients used on my skin. I can be quite sensitive to anything scented so I decided to stay away from lavender or tea tree old. She was also very gentle and professional in her approach, all her movements were executed as a choreography, knowing exactly where to apply pressure. To be honest I am fairly hesitant to trust someone to give me a massage as I know how much damage can be done with the wrong technique, but felt in absolutely safe hands here.

I visited for both a wax and for semi permanent eyelashes. The wax was first and I was talked through the whole process, told exactly what positions to be in and exactly what would happen next. I've never experienced this before and it was so welcome! I've heard many a horror story of people stripping when the therapist didn't need/want them to, lying the wrong way, etc. This way you know exactly what to do and things just work out better. My eyelashes cost the bargain price of £30 which is half the price of my last set. I've had them on nearly 2 weeks with very little loss. The last set I had fell off within 2 weeks. They charge £20 for refills and anticipate this will be needed at around the 4-6 week mark. My eyelashes took around 45 minutes and look perfect, no clumping whatsoever. They are also designed specifically for my lashes so I have shorter ones on the inside of my eye socket and longer on the outside. They are natural looking and I've had so many compliments on them I can see this being a new must have for me in my beauty regime! The eye lash specialist is quiet but efficient making sure you also have a patch test before a set of lashes. They have 20% off on Sundays (yes!! Open 7 days a week!) and for students. They are also planning on doing nails in the new year. I guess I better make my appointments in advance now...

They offer, manicures, pedicures, waxing, massages, facials and many other specialist treatments. I must add that this is one of the more expensive places to get these treatments in the area so if you've got some time and want to save yourself some pennies it certainly is worth looking around. I called on Friday to try and book an eyebrow appointment for the next day. I was told that the time slot I wanted was already booked, however they could fit me in a little bit later on. An hour later I received a voicemail message stating that the time slot I initially wanted had become available, so I called them back to amend my booking. I strolled in from the cold outside and was warmly welcomed, both by the staff and the atmosphere. The layout and design is very modern and chic. Definitely what you want to see when walking into a beauty salon. I was taken to one of the many private rooms and was told to relax on the massage bed whilst the wax was prepared. The bed must have had an electric blanket under the towels as it was extremely warm. This probably would have been more useful if I was unclothed, getting a massage, however with my warm winter jumper on it made me feel too hot. The gentle music and dimmed lighting helped ensure that I was in a relaxed mood and the lady who was treating me ensured she knew exactly what I wanted before starting. I was extremely happy with the outcome - I now have perfectly rounded and neat eyebrows! I'd recommend this salon or 'retreat' as they like to call it to any lady who is in need of a pampering or a relaxing massage.

Throuhgout the treatment i was made to feel at ease and the staff member was knowledgeable and friendly. I'm not really one for beauty treatments, as i always feel awkward, but that was not the case at evies and i'd happily go back to experience more.
