I followed Linda from her location downtown on 2nd, to her current location in Salon Fifth Avenue Hair & Spa in the Banker's Hill area. I first went to Linda as a referral from my original waxer (who gave me my first brazilian). I was starting to get ingrowns and my waxer referred me to Linda because the hard wax that she uses is made from a special herbal blend that only she uses (only one outside of Miami, FL) and she felt that it would be better for my skin...she was right. I was bit nervous going to a new waxer (always nervous having new hands on my lady parts), but Linda quickly made me feel comfortable and at ease. Her warm personality has a way of taking your mind off what she's doing and you don't feel the pain as much...let's face it, it's never going to be painless, but it helps to take your mind off of it. Bought a groupon, and decided it give it a try. Very professional and on a scale of 1-10 the pain level was about a 2. My Brazilian lasted about 2 weeks, and I was baby soft! Linda is extremely honest, I went a second time and she said I should wait one more week. If she did it that day I wouldn't get the results I wanted. She ended up doing my eyebrows instead, and wow they came out so nice. Truly value honesty, she could've easily ripped me off. I highly recommend everyone here. I've been meaning to write a review about The Wax Studio/Linda for the longest time, but never got around to it - probably because I can't say enough great things about this place. I've been seeing Linda for almost a year now (for Brazilians or brow clean up), which says a lot since I've always just bounced around looking for waxing Groupons. Linda is my go to gal for brazilians. I instantly felt comfortable with her. I am pretty particular about the results I want and she exceeds my expectations because of her thoroughness. She is not shy to get in there and make sure I come out completely hairless and if ever I need a touch up, she is more than welcome to accommodate me to make me happy. I have historically done sugaring because I have sensitive skin and I have found the special formula wax she creates works well on me. The pain level I experience is a smidgen more than with sugaring but no different than any other brazilian I have had. I have been with linda for almost three years now. Every six weeks I come in for my Brazilian. The first time I met linda was a few days before my wedding- terrified of the brazilian wax. She was gentle, kind, conversational, quick, and funny. I actually look forward (no joke) to my appointments. I have referred countless friends, all nothing but thrilled and now regular returning clients. I read a review that mentions a scheduling error, in my 3 years of regular appointments I have never had a problem like that at all, however we are all human and I guess it's possible. Sad that someone would let something so small like that ruin her all her future wonderfulness with Linda. I have followed Linda through three different places now, and as long as I live within an hour of San Diego (I live in Santee now) I will make the drive to see her, she is so worth it. I never have gotten waxed before so this was definitely a new experience. The area reserved for waxing is private and spacious. I got my chest and abs waxed. I had a Forrest growing there before hand. It's all gone and it does hurt, but she gave me many helpful hints about post wax care. She also said I could call if I broke out or had any problems. I would love to give this place 5 stars, but I can't. I had a 9:30am appointment scheduled for today. I'm a teacher, so it was going to be a quick trip while on my "prep" period. Linda never showed up. The receptionist from Salon 5th Ave contacted her and Linda's response was something like, whoops, you didn't get put on the schedule. Well, that's not my problem. I have the text message from Friday with the scheduled apt. day and time. I have to schedule meetings all the time, there is no way I would ever just tell the person they were never put on the schedule. I really wanted to like this place because I go to Salon 5th Ave for my hair. I see Gerardo and absolutely love him, so when he recommended the wax studio, I jumped at the chance to try it out. This review has been a long time coming, and even if you don't keep reading, at least let me tell you that Linda is the BEST! When I first started coming here, I was not new to waxing. I've tried both soft & hard wax and found pros and cons to both. I also have dry and sensitive skin that is prone to ingrown hairs. It's something I've just always dealt with, so I didn't think anything of it until I started coming here. Linda's wax formula is different and, I have to say, much better than anything else I've tried. I rarely see any ingrowns! Also, she's quick and efficient, and she always makes me feel super comfortable. I also appreciate that she gives me great home care tips that don't involve me spending more money on other products that might be sponsoring her, as I've seen in other places. I thread my eyebrows at Beauty by Dolly up on Black Mountain Rd and was going to them out of convenience for my Brazilian waxing. One of the owners would do it with a soft wax and I would go back to her regularly. Then they started hiring random waxers that did sugaring and then upped their prices. I was discussing this with my hair stylist (Claire S. review) and she said I had to try her place. She found the owner Linda on a whim right before her wedding and swore she would change my life. I was kind of nervous to try a new person (I need someone that can make conversation with me while this is all happening), she ended up being super friendly and nice, she always has funny stories to share with me and the sessions fly by pretty quickly. She also told me about how she used to wax in Miami and they obviously take their bikini areas very seriously over there so she orders this amazing hard wax that she adds stuff to that makes the whole experience way less painful than any other place I've been to. Unfortunately, she moved with her husband and family to Washington for her husband's job, but fortunately she recruited her backup waxer Viviana to take over. I'd been to Viviana before Linda's big move and I think she is really great too. She's young and easy to talk to too. I've also referred friends here too and they still keep coming back too! Linda is awesome! I have lived in Europe for 7 yrs and also visited Brazil and she is just as good if not better than European and Brazilian salons overseas. Her salon is very clean and professional. And she works quickly and understands that even though we like the results of the Brazilian wax, NO ONE wants to feel like they are having their hair ripped out for a long period of time.
