The place was pretty empty besides a few people at the bar. The bar is nice, lots of seating at the bar and tables surrounding it, there is a TV and a Jukebox and a room off to the side with a pool table. Drinks are pretty cheap and they only take cash! I was a little disappointed, I wanted a vodka soda but they didnt have soda water. The bartender was super fun and friendly and hooked me up with a different drink. They also have great coffee and espresso! Some of the patrons were a bit rude, clanking their glasses for service and calling the bartender names other than her own but other than that they really didnt cause too many problems-besides maybe their choices in music. I probably wont find myself back at Karma unless the same bartender is working!! But if your looking for a low key spot for a drink in downtown Waterloo, Karma does its job!

The ceiling is corrugated tin and the floors and walls are reclaimed barn wood, according to the article in the Courier. You will step on peanuts, which I find mildly schticky, but okay. We bellied up to the bar and enjoyed the company of the barkeep, a friendly girl with an easy smile and a quick laugh. The beers and liquor are all the standards, nothing terribly out of the ordinary for the area. The place was not well-attended, but I don't think many people know about this place yet; anyone we talked to after our visit had no clue it was even there. Hopefully this place will draw some business to the area.

I was however frustrated that the 2nd floor bathrooms were locked and I could not get help to get the bathroom unlocked. They have a seperate fryer, gf buns, and gf chicken wings. I love being able to find a place that has so many options. My sister and I had the chicken philly sandwich on a gluten free bun, no cheese or aioli because we are allergic to gluten and dairy. We both ordered our sandwiches with a side of fries. The bun was very dry, more so then usual. Normally it is flavorful and soft. It almost felt like they had left it out when they should not of.

We did sit upstairs where it was a bit quieter. Our server seemed baffled by our beer orders and didn't know what was on tap. We waited a length of time to have her come and take our food orders and even longer for it to arrive. When it came, everything was either luke warm or cold. It did, however, taste just fine. The server that brought our food didn't smile or speak loud enough to be heard. It wasn't like it was bad....it just wasn't great.

The other 3 enjoyed their food and were satisfied. My disappointment was with the world's greatest tenderloin as advertised on the menu. It didn't appear to have been tenderized at all or flattened it was basically a chunk of pork chop or meat and it was almost impossible to bite through. It didn't seem to be tenderized at all. I had very few toppings a single thin slice of tomato couple of leaves of lettuce I believe it was a couple of pickle slices. The breading didn't seem to have a whole lot of flavor as well. I went ahead and ate it anyway with a knife and fork but unfortunately that wasn't the experience I was hoping for. I didnt complain at the time but I did eventual eventually email them so they would know what my experience was and that I just satisfied and not asking for anything other than to let them know cuz I think the restaurants deserve to know that. Hopefully this isn't the standard for the world's greatest tenderloin. I am generally a nacho guy when we go there thought I might get a tenderloin as good or better than what I've had elsewhere.
