The food menu is absolutely charming! And totally LOVE the bar and selections! We've brought several guests here this past year. The bar staff and wait staff are charming. We ate the cheese curds and were pleasantly impressed--coming from WI, that's a tall bar. My spouse had a burger and I had the fish. All were delightful! So glad we found this place! I hope it never changes!

They are so grateful to see you and serve and it shows here. The cheese curds to start were amazing especially when paired with their special buffalo/ranch sauce. I love a humble dive bar, but add live music, and that's a winning combo. Octopus GETS it and does it well. From big names to fresh faces, you're guaranteed good tunes here. Fantastic beer selection. Excellent food. Reasonable prices. Single speed checks all the boxes!…read more I've stopped at Single Speed several times when passing through, and always enjoyed the experience. The flatbread is huge--at least two meals' worth--as are the salads. Beer's available in full pours, half pours, and flights, so it's easy to sample a few in one sitting. And don't miss the specials--especially inventive soups. There's plenty of seating options, too--a nice patio, bar stools, and a couple rooms full of tables and booths. Cheers!

There is ample space inside and out, and it's all very open and clean, though the inside dining areas are separated into large rooms, which I think would help with noise control when it's busy. We visited around 7:45 on a Friday evening in August and found it remarkably not crowded, but they have another location in Cedar Falls that probably draws a larger crowd. We were at the Waterloo location, which probably caters to a lot of business people and business travelers during the week. We ordered a lot of food for two people, and it was all excellent, but I rate this cool place four stars because all the food came out of the kitchen at once and we were totally overwhelmed. If it had been paced, I think we could have pulled it off, and as travelers, we couldn't really take leftovers with us to have another day. Our server was extremely helpful and patient helping me understand their beverage selections. I enjoy a good cocktail or a glass of good wine, but my beer tastes are even more limited, but SingleSpeed offered up the perfect solution: the SingleSpeed-a-rita. This is made with their Ring Around the Gose, tequila, agave, and lime juice. That hit the spot on a hot Friday night in Iowa!

It was 3:30 on a Saturday week 11 of College football and the place was already busy. As a semi-regular visitor from out of town, I've been here too many times on dead evenings and had the bartender barely say a word, quickly grad my drink, and then engage only with the clique of folks who are there every night. Most bars/pubs I've ever visited at least engage for a few moments with patrons who from out of town. Not this one. If you're not a regular, you're invisible to the bartenders. Also, everything here centers around drag and there's a drag show at least four nights out of the week. Newsflash to the owners: not all gay men are into drag. I feel sorry for the MANY gay men in this area who aren't into drag, that this is pretty much the only social outlet. Not to mention that some of the old school drag queens are really forward and aggressively flirtatious, and if you don't play along they get pissed off and nasty and pretty much tell you to get the f*ck out.
