Located in quaint little Jamestown, it's set alongside the river, with cows grazing alongside the bank. To call it idyllic doesn't quite capture -- it's ridiculously charming. I emailed to secure a booking a few weeks before as we had 6 adults and a child for a Friday evening -- they replied quickly and we were all set. We showed at our appointed time and were shown to a lovely nearly private table in the back room. All very smooth. My husband proclaimed "Best Meal in Ireland." (and he's eaten many after traveling/living there on and off for several years). And I must concur. A standout -- the Kids Menu! None of this garbage food to be found (chicken nuggets, etc). My son ate beef noodles fit for a king for about 6 euro. Unreal, it was so good my brother and husband were both sneaking bites of it. If you have kids, they shall not be disappointed here and you will not feel guilty giving them yet another plate of chips and grease! The Adult food was also exceptional! The duck was glorious! The steak a vision! There was not a miss in the bunch, and the complimentary starter and fresh made in-house bread basket was divine. A Malaysian Chef doing things up right over here in small town Ireland. A treat to be sure. If you are anywhere near -- make this a destination for your next dinner. One funny thing (which is totally fine) -- it may be the only eating/drinking establishment that does NOT serve Guinness. Totally ok for me, and it forced my dad to try some local brew, but worth nothing if you have any grumpy Guinness folks in the group! This ENTIRE amazing meal was 250 euros. This included wine, drinks, beers, multiple courses and a very happy kid eating beef noodles. A true value to be sure, everyone remarked that they thought it should cost far more -- so this really is a testament to great food at a great price.

They have 6-7 starters and another 6-8 Mains (and 5-6 items on a menu for youngsters). Classic comfort food with an elegant twist. Even the bread with the delicious soup was impressively light and accompanied by 3 great spreads. Even the fish-and-chips and burger arrived with presentation and quality way above anything you'd usually see. Beautiful formal looking restaurant area would have fit well with suits and gowns, but our jeans and relaxed attire was readily acceptable. Service was quick and friendly. The servers brought us our food in the right order, together, and hot. The owner as well as the chef stopped by to check on our dining. Nice view out huge windows looking over the yacht club onto the river and green hills beyond. Highly recommend for an outstanding sit down meal.....or afternoon wedding reception.

Dining room was spacious, chairs were comfortable, and very bright (in a pleasant way) lighting. Staff was friendly and they recommended specials of the day, and I ordered both the starter and the main specials. Starter: venison sausage with red cabbage and poitin jus. Sausage tasted great with vibrant flavor. Strong taste of venison meat was well-balanced by the sweet and sour red cabbage. Poitin jus also helping to offset the saltiness of sausages. Main: wild mallard (breast) with celeriac, wild mushrooms, and berries. A perfect dish to enjoy at night. I requested doneness to be a bit more than their usual medium (pink center), and the kitchen still managed to sear the duck breast to perfection, crispy skin with tender texture. Wild mallard breast packed a vigorous gamey flavor, not unlike the beef liver, but also had a lot of nuttiness. Wild mushrooms added forestry and wild outdoor vibe, while the berries and the jus helped offset the strong and lasting meaty flavor of the duck and cleanse the palate. Dessert: apple and honey crumble with vanilla ice cream. Slightly on the sweet side for me, but overall still a very satisfying way to wrap up the dinner. Strongly recommend this place to anyone visiting Cavan.
