They are all very knowledgeable about the area and have some amazing stories to tell! The walls of the pub itself also tell a story, with lots of personal photos and trinkets collected over the years by the family. They also serve the best pint of Guinness in the land! It's a great spot to come with a big group of friends, there's loads of space and also a room with a pool table! The pub itself doesn't serve food, but they very kindly allow you to bring food in from the neighbouring takeaway while you enjoy your drinks which is brilliant! Always make sure to drop by when I'm in the area, it's well worth it!

The atmosphere was perfect! It was early Sunday morning, and there were already a few locals inside having their morning beer and reading the newspaper. I did some exploring because it looks so small on the outside, but you get in, and it just keeps going and going. Then roll over to the Reel Inn (it's just at corner near the bridge) where they have live music every night of the week and usually a good crowd. As a local (or ex-local) going in here for the 1st time I felt like I'd walked into Deliverance (google it), some odd folk from the bogs, townies, rockers, and maybe a few fellas barred from all the other pubs in town, and then mixed in is usually a load of English tourists, and surprisingly it works! Everyone's having the craic, these bog critters are friendly and are trying to wind me up, we'll all supping our drinks and enjoying the music, the tourists are dancing away, and usually it's a great night, and everyone's good and drunk by the end of the night and I mean drunk. Sometimes the music is hit-or-miss, sometimes it's a bit of jam session, other times it's quite good. On quite nights there may not be many musicians there and the owner get's up and play. And both him and the missus are decent friendly folk. I just wish they poured a better Guinness or had a nice Heff-Weisse. ;)

I'll have been in Swinford for nearly 2 weeks and have enjoyed Melletts nearly daily. Heard some great local Trad music last Thursday thanks to a tip from Amy. Great pints of Guinness and nice Irish whiskey selection. They make a Yank feel right at home!!

Jim Clark the owner greeted us and explained he was closed but asked if we wanted a drink but couldn't provide food. The pub was dark and he turned the lights on and poured some beers-we were his only guests. We had a great time with him as he told us stories and local history. Jim was a very nice man and the pub has great charm. Clark's was recommended by our B&B host. Highly recommend!
