    THE Sunday Roast - beef
    A Z Flor H.

So we're on vacation now and I want the REAL English/British experience. My friend insisted we have a traditional Sunday Roast. My friend says that Sunday roast, obviously only on Sunday's, but it's usually a very LARGE Sunday brunch typically with potatoes and Yorkshire pudding and some type of meat and gravy. It's like dinner for breakfast. We first initially tried to eat elsewhere but it shut down! Well, not too far away was this location, The Warrington. (It is also a Hotel mind you. So I'll only be speaking on the bar/restaurant.) Located in a very nice neighborhood. REALLY nice. Within walking 20 feet down the street, I crossed 3 Porsches and 1 Range Rover. The houses are 3-4 stories high with freshly manicured topiaries. Anyways, as soon as you walk in you're welcomed to a large, ornate lounging and dining area with dark wood furniture. Very beautiful and antique feeling as if not much had been changed over the past century, everything just looks so intricate. Back to, Sunday roast! You choose either chicken, pork, or beef. I ordered beef. Let me tell you, this was the best breakfast ever. Two generous slices of roast beef atop a bed of a variety of roasted potatoes, sautéed kale and Yorkshire pudding all slathered with a warm brown gravy. Honestly, I could have had more and could eat this every Sunday if at all possible. My other friend ordered a Niçoise salad which I just learned is a traditional French dish that has Tuna, hard-boiled egg and olives. I didn't try it but the presentation was just as beautiful and she said just as delicious.

Good and friendly neighbourhood pub with an impressive interior and tables outside. Legend has it that it used to be a Brothel (which is where the current guest rooms come from) until it got bought by Gordon Ramsay. Ramsay doesn't own it anymore, but the food is still decent (what you'd expect from a normal pub) and the drinks are cheaper than at the close-by Elgin!

Just come back from this pub, so forgive any fuzzy errors. My local, and definitely one of my favourites. Fortunately when Gordon Ramsey took over and gastro-pubbed this place he didn't change much. The gorgeous art nouveau style panelling is still there. I think there was maybe a dart board before, and he did kick out Ben's Thai from upstairs though ('dang!' a Maida Vale institution), but fortunately they have found a new home in the Sam Smith pub down the road. I also think the pub looks quintessentially English as has two big red telephone boxes outside. I'm sure they are there just for show (I bet you Ramsey rents them), as I have never seen anyone use them ever. Good beer and wine menu. I haven't tried the food here yet, I have to admit from all reports I don't hold high hopes, especially after the frozen ready meal controversy (see Wikipedia). However they appear to have a reasonable price set menu for autumn so I will come back, and let you know how it works out.

I'm not a fan of Gordon Ramsay as a television star. I think his aggressively abrasive egomaniacal personality is appalling, and the crude way he demeans everyone who crosses his path is deplorable. As a result, I never would intentionally seek out one of his restaurants, but friends who live in St. John's Wood brought us here, and I'm sorry they did, because they spent far more than the meal warranted. First of all, the pub is spectacular, from its stunning mosaic floor to its stained glass windows to its marble fireplace to its Art Deco details and Victorian fixtures. The decor in the contemporary dining area is crisp and clean, although the tables are much too close together to allow for private conversations. As someone who fancies himself to be perfect, Ramsay needs to keep a tighter rein on his kitchen crew and wait staff. None of the food that reached our table was extraordinary, and there were long delays between courses. Our friendly waiter was very apologetic, but he seemed to have trouble handling a full station. My chicken liver and game pâté was slightly dry but the spiced plum chutney served with it was a wonderful complement. My husband's onion soup was thin and bland, surprising underseasoned. He had better luck with his entree, succulent roasted pork belly served with kale and puréed onions and a slightly too-sweet raspberry sauce, but my lamb steak was so overcooked I had to send it back. The replacement finally arrived after everyone else had nearly finished eating, and it was neither hot nor medium rare as I ordered. Our friends thought their selections - roast baby chicken and hangar steak - were adequate but nothing special. The fig and almond tart with clotted cream was slightly dry, and the caramel sauce served with the sticky toffee pudding was much too thick. Coffee was excellent. The restroom looked and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in a week, and we left without using it. After this experience, I truly believe Gordon Ramsay is a legend only in his own mind.

We stopped here our first night in London and the food was really good. Cool place to eat and hangout and have some drinks.

I strongly disagree with the negative reviews on here. I love this place. Will I forgive the waitress at the bar who drooled at the sight of my boyfriend when we walked in? Maybe not. Will i forgive the waitress for giving me no eye contact during service? Maybe i will. The pub downstairs is beautiful, i have photos of this place i need to upload for all of you, please try it! Lovely atmosphere, reasonable prices and good food.

Sat down but couldn't get service. They finally told us to order at the bar. They were out of lots of things. Finally decided to leave.

This restaurant was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I ordered the beef roast, and we also shared a side of the creamy cauliflower, which was to die for. I truly cannot sing the praises of this restaurant enough. The service was personable and welcoming, making it easy and comfortable to ask questions and try new things. One of the managers (apologies I don't know her name) checked in on us several times and even encouraged a few of us to try additional menu items. The food came out quickly, and once it arrived, the table went completely silent because we were all too busy enjoying every bite. I highly, highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting London and even the locals. A solid 10/10 experience!

I was a fish person, and I am SO HAPPY I did! The fish at this restuarant will live in my head forever. Im not joking. I live in the US and I almost want to fly back to London just to have it again. The roast looked great too, many of my friends saying the meat was great and the gravy was flavorful. The staff were ALL so friendly, even offering the charge a phone that was dying! The place itself feels like it's straight out of a movie, a true london pub. I cannot stop thinking about this fish. Mall Tavern, if youre ever in Minnesota, please send me the recipe.

One eventually came to our table after sitting awhile. I of course had to try the fish n chips. A couple of veggie burgers were ordered and a regular burger. Surprisingly happy hour was still on at 8 o'clock so drinks were ordered. The food all came at the same time and everything was cool. The fish had a nice flavor from the fried batter. To me it was similar to Long John Silvers as far as the batter is concerned, but slightly better quality overall. The fries were standard. The only thing horrible was the very bland mashed green peas. They should be omitted from every pub across the country, but I think it is a traditional item included with the fish. The cocktails were good as well as the price. The sticky toffee pudding was something else I was advised to try while in London. I must admit it was really delicious. It came with a scoop of ginger ice cream and a warm buttery toffee sauce to pour over. It was delightfully warm and sweet and paired well with the ice cream. The cake itself was moist enough on its own with notes of brown sugar and molasses. I could have had seconds and thirds of this desert. Yum! The majority of my party didn't think the food was fantastic. The burgers happened to be somewhat alright. This was a first for me having pub food and I would have more again as long as I stick to the basics.

Yes, there are many pubs in London, everyone has their favorite, everyone has their local, and my "local" depends on where I am staying. In any case, several of us met here. The place was definitely hopping but one of our group arrived early and grabbed a table. We all ordered drinks, I had beer which was delicious. After perusing the menu, I ordered the standard- Fish & Chips, with Mushy Peas. It came out quickly and was fried to perfection. Everybody else who ordered food seemed happy with their choices. It was a great setting to meet up with friends, and I will happily come back here when in the area. A solid pub in a city of many pubs!
