    Frugal Fabrics - Buena Suerte

Plus, her trusty Singer workhorse sewing machine always delivers. When Joann's in Kingston, NY shut down, two of the longtime employees put their heads and hearts together and opened Frugal Fabrics on Ulster Avenue. This isn't your typical fabric store- big box or otherwise. What sets Frugal apart is that these ladies accept some fabrics as donations and sell. But don't mistake that for low quality. The fabric selection here is impressive AND affordable. While my home leans neutral with rustic woods, concrete and stone, I love to funktify it with pops of color. I don't sew, but I do love beautiful fabric and walking into Frugal F. felt like heaven. The colors, the heft, the textures- especially the pieces I picked up, were delicious. It's a hidden gem for crafters and quilters- neither of which I am, but I'm so glad I came here- plus these ladies know their stuff. By the way, they offer a point system and get 'oink' ;-) points based on how many yards of fabric were purchased.

The prices are great and I found a lot of patterns to be inspired by. I plan to spend the rest of this dreary day planning some projects. It was so nice to chat with the proprietors. I love to support local businesses and I hope that this new place finds lots of success.

Upholstery Unlimited - Pillows for a window seat

    Upholstery Unlimited

Upholstery Unlimited This is an upholstery store in Hudson,…read moreNY 12534. THIS IS THE WORST UPHOLSTERY COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALED WITH! Two months ago I dropped off fabric for Randall McCarroll, the owner, to make me cushions for a window seat. I purchased the fabric from Restoration Hardware, Ralph Lauren, and a store that specializes in English fabrics and leathers. All he had to make was a window seat cushion and 4 decorative pillows. I paid him in full the day I dropped off the fabrics, leather, and extra stuffing. I went to pick them up today and found that the cushions were so poorly sewn that I had the impression that he had done it on purpose. I have never seen cushions so ill-made in my life. They are so ruined that it is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to repair them. The seams are undone, crooked, and totally wrinkled because he sewed them so hastily and carelessly that he didn't care about the end result. The pillows aren't even 20 x 20 inches. They are poorly cut and look like "shapeless bags." He put white zippers on beige/gold velvet, black zippers on brown fabric...when I asked him WHY he did that his response was, "No one is going to see the zippers." The zippers weren't even sewn properly. The seams were crooked and poorly sewn. I'm so mad I almost yelled at him for my money back. This "company" (if you can even call it that) will ruin any project you have in mind. The guy has a terrible attitude, you can tell he has NO idea how to do the job, and is incompetent. Now I'm going to have to go back and buy new fabric and find someone qualified to do this job for me AGAIN! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND "Upholstery Unlimited" TO MY WORST ENEMY!

Not great with communication, even worse with the quality of the work. Our grandmothers platform…read morerocker was " re-upholstered" with no cushioning in the seat. We took it back and were thanked for giving them a second chance to make it right. It came back with a very lumpy seat that was apparently stuffed from underneath because they did not want to take apart the chair and re-do a faulty job. Buttons on the back are not centered and aligned, tucks do not match on either side of the front seat, seams are coming apart, and welting is not straight and waves across the front of the chair. Our second chair involved two loose cushions that had rounded, sloppy corners rather than crisp corners to match the foam inserts. The cushions were sized incorrectly after they took the measurements and the back section was too large for the opening and had to be squeezed into place. The material is puckered and sagging and the bottom cushion is mushy with no fabric support on the metal webbing to prevent it from sagging through the openings of the webbing. The back cushion is overstuffed and lumpy with pucker lines along the seams. These two chairs were picked up in October 2013 and are in need of a total re-do after almost $1000.00 in work. We ended up taking them to court and settled on a full refund on our two chairs. He tried to back his work and materials by stating " the material is good, it is used in hotels and whorehouses". So a word of warning, if you want your furniture to reflect that whorehouse ambiance Randy is your man, if not run in another direction. This business has NOTHING to do with Debra Whelans' business. He bought her business but not the upholstery, business and customer service skills, and professionalism that she was known for. We thought we were taking our chairs to Debra Whelan and were so disappointed with what we received.
