When Joann's in Kingston, NY shut down, two of the longtime employees put their heads and hearts together and opened Frugal Fabrics on Ulster Avenue. This isn't your typical fabric store- big box or otherwise. What sets Frugal apart is that these ladies accept some fabrics as donations and sell. But don't mistake that for low quality. The fabric selection here is impressive AND affordable. While my home leans neutral with rustic woods, concrete and stone, I love to funktify it with pops of color. I don't sew, but I do love beautiful fabric and walking into Frugal F. felt like heaven. The colors, the heft, the textures- especially the pieces I picked up, were delicious. It's a hidden gem for crafters and quilters- neither of which I am, but I'm so glad I came here- plus these ladies know their stuff. By the way, they offer a point system and get 'oink' ;-) points based on how many yards of fabric were purchased.

A year or so ago, I picked up a nice original lithograph from The Second Show, but it needed new glass. I took it to Sketch, where Amy not only took care of that, but touched up the wood frame, advised against changing the mat, and the total cost was more than reasonable. Very personalized service and for that reason I go in to buy art cards and cute bags and art supplies for gifts, wanting to support them. She's been helpful when I had questions - today, looking for a chalkboard for a child.
