I've driven past Waffle King many times, but always in the day and to me, waffles are a night time thing, so each time I tell myself I will have to find the time to visit one evening soon but it's taken far too long. Better late then never though.
Waffle King is only a fairly small establishment, and being a Friday night we were relieved that there was one spare table.
A friendly waiter greeted us, asked if we'd been before and when we confessed that we hadn't, he proceeded to run us through the menu in great depth, before leaving us to make our decision.
It's not an easy decision to make, with so many delicious sounding options, but in the end we settled for a Waffle Tasting Plate with strawberries, a Crepe Cassonade with Belgian brown sugar and a Cookies and Cream Frappe.
The goodies finally arrived and they looked fantastic. The Waffle Tasting Plate was served with 3 hot dipping chocolates (white, milk and dark), whipped cream, ice cream and a generous helping of strawberries. The waffle was cooked to perfection, crunchy on the outside yet still soft inside, while the sauces were delicious.
The Crepe Cassonade was also pretty good, the brown sugar melting on the hot crepe to create a dark, sweet syrup that perfectly complimented the tasty crepe.
The Frappe was the only let down as it was a bit icy and you were finished with the milkshake and left with a glass of ice far sooner than I'd like, though the flavours of the milkshake were pretty good while it lasted.
The waffle was definitely the star and a perfect finish to a wintery evening. read more
