Had an awesome experience from the day I walked in, felt the warmth and aloha from the employees of the facility the office staff all the way to the CNA's, the care was awesome and the interaction with staff and management was top of the line, if I had to return to a rehabilitation facility I would definitely go back to the villas! Just to keep a bit of privacy I will not mention staff individuals, But I felt as though I was family in here and I spent 10 weeks here for medical and physical therapy! Oh yeah and the food was so ONO. I initially was on the 2nd floor in a shared room and thanks to the floor manager I was transferred to the 5th floor by the end of week! She was the bomb I even spent a lot of my free time on the second floor . The fifth floor staff has so much aloha I felt at ease being in their care! Visited a relative there. First, the Google gps routed the car to a close but wrong building! So be careful, in Hawaii, gps is not to be trusted. Once I got into the building, I noticed a security guard was closely watching us. He was a good guy, though. He would tell me where to park and where to go. Even then we went to the wrong floor because there was no way back out to the lobby from the ground level if you take the elevator from the parking lot! From the building elevator, we could easily find the patients' areas. The rooms were a bit dated but clean. Leaving 3 stars is generous. Staff was pleasent, however whenever you needed them (pushing the button), they took around and hour to responds, at best. When my grandmother got discharged, family wasn't there due to work. Her belongings were less than what she had when she got there. The charging cord for her hearing aid was missing. CN said they could not find it, however that is impossible because the charging case was plugged into the cord the entire time. My grandma didn't want to use her hearing aid while there because she was afraid she might lose it, so we left it charging, in the case during her entire stay. read more

While there were many department people who helped like the doctor...social worker... assistant director of services. I am rating on the direct Frontline service of CNA at this rehabilitation center. Cruel...uncaring. my mother was told to pee 6x in her diaper before calling for a change. One scolded her when she asked for some help reaching things. My mother has 2 torn rotator cuffs and cannot stretch her arms. CNA promise to return to assist and never do. These are daily occurrences. There is something VERY WRONG with the ratio of CNA workers per patients. It is disheartening to know that when one is most vulnerable...you are helpless to the uncaring service of workers who have no empathy for suffering. read more

Upon my 86 year old dad's release from the hospital, he needed to go to Skilled Nursing and we were lucky enough to be placed at The Villas. The main reason for my review is to write a commendation for two aides in particular, Shirline and Jenilyn, who treated my dad with patience and care and worked with our `ohana to find a routine that would best suit him. They consistently went above and beyond for all of their patients and we appreciate them so much. Theresa was also great - often helping out when Dad needed something and the aides were helping someone else. Very cheery and outgoing. In addition to medicine and physical therapy, patients need aloha. When we couldn't be there, we felt confident that they would keep him safe and comfortable. If I ever had a request or concern, the team of social workers-nursing-and therapy listened and tried to accommodate my needs. Too often caregivers at the aide level do not get the praise they deserve - they do the unglamorous jobs and have to deal with families that are stressed. My family is also very thankful for the recreation room that was a consistent place for the patients to socialize and engage and for families to gather. Sitting in a bed all day would not have been good for my Dad's healing, so thank you for realizing this space is valuable. We met some other families who were also going through some challenges with their loved ones so it was also a place to find comfort that we were not alone in this journey. The facilities are beautiful with state-of-the-art physical therapy on floor two and an amazing courtyard that looks more like a hotel than a rehab. My family sometimes brought dinner to join our dad downstairs so he wouldn't feel like he was in a hospital type setting and I believe that was the intention when The Villas was renovated. My recommendations would be to have a more structured routine for physical and occupational therapy so the timing is more predictable. Although the meal choices were excellent, sometimes it took awhile before they were dropped. Any delays were most likely due to understaffing. My dad ended up leaving 4 days earlier than predicted. Keep in mind my family took shifts with him from breakfast til the time he went to sleep. I definitely think this contributed to his progress. Not all families can do this, but if you can be present as an advocate, part of the care team and show aloha - it can be done. read more

A good friend of ours had the privilege to stay here during his rehab after his surgery. Along with him saying how nice everyone is, we experienced it first hand when we went to visit him. When the staff saw us in his room, they just told him to let them know when they could come back for various things. They did so with no look or sounded disturbed or irritated in which we were surprised as we know how busy they can be taking care of everyone. They validate the parking when you visit which was really nice in this day and age when everyone is charging for everything. They have a nice seating area to sit down and have something to eat while enjoying the outdoors. When visiting, you have to wear a mask or you wont be allowed in. So mask up everyone! If I ever have to rehab for anything, I hope I will get to stay here and hopefully get the "good" room too! read more

While the facility is beautiful and the attending nurses are nice the LPN on the 3rd floor reception desk, Tammie, is rude. We went to visit my aunt and the security people outside were extremely nice and said to go to the 3rd floor and ask the desk what room she is in. Went up there and had the displeasure of asking Tammie who was the only one behind the desk. I said "we are here visiting my aunt but don't know what room she's in so they told us to come here." I gave her name and SPELLED her last name. She acted as though we were bothering her. She took awhile on the computer and said "she's not here on the 3rd floor do you know what room she's in?" I said "that's why we're here, they told us to come to you." She then asked another nurse how to find my aunt's name. That nurse asked her last name. I spelled it again and then Tammie said "oh I spelled it wrong". Her last name is only four letters! Then she gruffly gave me her room number. My sister is a patient there and the staff is very kind and attentive. She had knee surgery and is in rehab. So many different types of care is there at her service and with not having much communication between them, it is hard to keep up on what's happening and making sure her needs are being fully met... however... short of that, the nursing and the rest of the staff there remains very attentive, helpful, and understanding. She will be there another week or two. I am looking forward to her being well supported there. The environment is very clean, and the rooms are all private exceptionally nice, for a "rehab". Spent three weeks at The Villas recently after surgery, and would definitely recommend this facility. The entire staff, including admin staff, doctors, nurses, nurse aides, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, food service workers, housekeeping staff, etc, all work hard to provide the best care for their guests. The place is very clean, the food is very good, and there is a feeling of Ohana throughout. Some nice surprises were the free personal laundry service and an upbeat activity department dedicated to patient wellness (the weekly bingo event is popular). On the ground floor is a beautifully designed large courtyard and a chapel that welcomes anyone to its Sunday mass. The Villas helped me heal and get stronger (both physically and mentally) before going home. Would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone! read more

Writing as a patient who stayed here. I normally don't waste my time with reviews but this was so bad I needed to say something to try and warn loved ones from being sent here. - No doctor on duty at night and come when they please in the morning. - Pray you don't need a doctor Saturday-Sunday as getting ahold of them will take nearly the entire day if you're lucky. - Constantly hiring new people due to management a CNA disclosed to me. - Doctors won't respond to calls at night or will take a hours. - Next shift has no idea of previous care as there is no end of shift briefs for those coming on. Have constantly new people who do not work at the villas normally and have no clue on patients care needs. - Nurses constantly had to be corrected on what medications I was receiving. When they checked the charts the charts would not be up to date saying "must of been busy last night" or that no one reported how many of things/when charting. This could also be heard being discussed in the halls by other patients caregivers. - Please hope no emergency happens as it takes 15+ minutes on average for call lights to be answered. - Asked for a chair to sit in instead of the wheelchair because it wasn't comfortable to sit long times in and was told "paraplegics sit in theirs and don't have a problem" - They will know nothing of prior care from hospital even tho patients are transferred in with a care packet. The nurses won't chart properly to let the next shift know about the patient and will not brief them on their patients. None of the nurses know anything of the patient and patient will need to keep track themselves. - When walking to the bathroom and needed assistance was given a wheel chair to use as a walker that would wheelie and about made me fall face first. But was assured it would work just as well. - Phlebotomist openly admitted after making a mistake drawing blood (he was coming back for a redraw) that he did not know the colors of the tubes for blood test. - A walker was brought in after the nurse decided it was maybe unsafe to use the wheel chair (I expressed my unease and anxiety using it) she helped guide by grabbing my shorts for support. Doing so roughly they caused a major weggie that caused pain. - The day after I arrived a male patient was walking the halls naked birthday suit naked and being chased by nurses. I requested to have my door shut and was labeled as "closed off".. I just didn't wanna see naked people walking around. - Everything must be advocated for care several times and just go to the doctors or their PA. I repeated explained I am allergic to the TB skin prick test but can do blood test. The staff responded repeatedly "ok we will try again tomorrow"... tomorrow will not change my allergy. I went to my PA and got a blood test. - Was left to "cry it out" when my pain meds were given late and after they hadn't worked. - Doctors will NOT get back to you if you call. You have to ask A LOT to speak/be seen by them. - Harassed by doctor when he saw I had a diagnosis of PTSD ignoring the condition I was in rehab for and DEMANDING to know why I had it and how horrible it was that I was not medicated. Would get irritated when I asked questions about the care plan and request things to get more information. - After firing the doctor as he was not a fit for my care he came into my room the next day with the head of nursing to both again harass about ptsd and push medication. I haven't had medication in over a year decided by myself and my care team. - When I brought up concerns and wanting to transfer I was told that I can discharge myself (would smile smugly reminded me of when the grinch smiles with his steal x-mas idea) knowing I was unable to walk and this was my only option and I was at their mercy. My mom was able to finally get ahold of him for updates (was unaware of him being fired from my service time change) and the doctor made my mom and dad cry while hanging up on them for their questions and concerns being so far away. - Was pushed to have narcotics for pain when past days was taking Tylenol regularly for pain management because my two week prescription was up. Despite asking 3 times the nurse refused to call the doctor to renew it and kept pushing for the narcotic. Night shift nurse called and was able to get Tylenol renewal in less than an hour of her shift. At that point pain was past Tylenol and had to also take the narcotic. I voiced wanted to not have to take them. There are so many more incidents that happened but have limited space. There were a few people truly where the light in my stay here. I appreciate them for their care as they also are victims to the majority's incompetence. read more

Although I posted a review of Saint Frances the villas about a month ago, I find myself here again, due to the kindness of one of the physical therapist, that was my primary therapist and she put a note in my belongings so when I left the hospital, I would find it and it was the most beautiful card thanking me for being such a great patient and a lot of fun among a few other things I have never known anybody from any hospital around the world that I have been or any rehab that has ever taken the extra step to actually thank a patient she is such a special person. She's a taskmaster at the PT and I left her boss the Director of nursing Stephen Brewer no of this wonderful gesture her name is Justine, and if you see her, give her a thumbs up for me!!!!!! 5 stars for sure read more

Yes, it was a close call, but thanks to the prayers of friends and family, she survived and was admitted to The Villas through The Queen's Medical Center. Mom had chosen this Skilled Nursing Facility because she had visited friends and her sister when they were patients here. She liked the place and asked to come here for rehabilitation services. This was a good choice. When I visited mom here, during her three weeks "vacation", I saw how clean, bright, and nicely decorated it is. I went to a concert in the Day Room; and our family brought food in the large Arts and Crafts Room to celebrate Easter with mom. The staff was very understanding and accommodating! I watched them care for mom in a very compassionate manner! I want to thank everyone - the nurses, aides, therapists, social workers, dietitians, parking attendants, housekeepers, transporters, ward clerks, security guards, doctors, etc. for their professionalism and cheerfulness! I am from California but moved to Hawaii for some time. I had my CNA and was looking for working and came across The Villas down the street from where I lived. What a blessing to have found this place. The staff from top to bottom was so welcoming and comforting, especially as for me being someone new to the area. It made me feel at home coming into work knowing I was going to have co workers I can trust and talk to about anything. The work environment was filled with community and love. All the staff got along so well and we all cared so deeply about each and every patient. The facility sits on the hill and has such a beautiful view from the activity room expecally and every room was so bright and clean. The floor I worked on held 2 patients per room with a nice big bathroom. There was 4 shower rooms on the floor it was nice and big with a big sink area to blow dry hair, includes a toilet, and also a heated blanket warmer in one on those chilly nights. I loved eating my lunch in the outside area where there is vending machines and lots of tables to breath some fresh air which was so nice. The outdoor area is so beautiful and family members can bring their family down to sit outside and get some warmth on their skin. Also three days a week the sisters from the church have a donations only coffee stand with fresh baked goods so yummy! If you are ever looking for work and for any family to stay I would recommend this place with open arms. You will get taken care of without a doubt. If I didn't move back to California I would still be here truly and would one day love to come back when I am done with nursing school ! read more

My father has stayed here three separate times. The staff are kind, helpful and caring. My father is a stubborn and grouchy patient and they are very good with him. He gets to pick his food and it is delicious. They also provide snacks in the morning and afternoon. The PT and OT are all very good as well. I never worry about him here. It was truly a blessing that my mom was able to get into The Villas for rehabilitation after a hip replacement surgery from a fall. The Villas has an impressive first-class facility and staff that promotes and encourages healing. During her 19 days there, she received the best care. Stephen Brewer, Director of Nursing who admitted my mom, was there every step of the way, getting to know her and her individual needs. My mom's first language is Japanese and fortunately Keeko, the RN, spoke fluent Japanese. Stephen made it so that my mom would be on Keeko's floor so that she was able to have someone who she can freely communicate how she's feeling. She was able to do a little small talk from time to time with Keeko which brightened her spirit. The RNs and CNAs are all very kind, respectful, and accommodating. I visited daily and got to meet a lot of the RNs and CNAs that helped my mom throughout her stay. No matter how busy they were, they were cheerful and always asked if there's anything else that they could do for my mom and for me too, even though I'm not the patient. The PT and OT crew are terrific. They let me be involved in my mom's therapy, addressed all my concerns and provided caregiver training. They designed practical therapy exercises specifically for my mom by recreating obstacles that we have at home. They all gave her encouragement and positive reinforcements of her strengths. There's a beautiful outdoor seating area on the first floor, a sparkling new gym, there's also a large activities room with an awesome view of downtown where the patients (actually are called guests) can participate in fun activities such as arts and crafts and play Bingo, free WiFi and free parking. The food for the guests is not your typical hospital food. The variety and food quality are impressive. I was surprised to see my mom's first meal there was a seafood salad with real shrimp in a nice Asian style lacquer bowl and cream puffs for dessert. I personally saw and experienced that The Villas has a huge team of very hard working and compassionate people who are committed to offering quality care. They were behind my mom's strong road to healing and recovery. I put all my trust leaving her in their care. My hubby was sent to The Villas after 3 weeks at Queens Hospital after having a stroke. He was sent there because he was not ready to be transferred to Rehab Hospital of the Pacific, which he was supposed to go for intense rehab. Originally, it was suggested not to go to The Villas, but I ended up not having a choice because no where else had any bed openings. Let's just say, I'm happy that my hubby DID go to The Villas. Every single staff member that I've dealt with, was super nice and helpful. I love that the entire staff treated us like family. They remembered me by name too, even though I wasn't a patient. They always were happy and made my hubby smile every time. My hubby had physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy, almost every day. I must say that he has improved significantly since he was there for 5 weeks. I wish he had more intense therapy, then I wouldn't have to transfer him to another rehab facility (which he currently doesn't like, and isn't improving as much). The Villas is a Skilled Nursing Facility, and it is located at the old St. Francis hospital in Liliha. The facility is very clean and doesn't have an old nursing home feeling like most places. My hubby was on the 4th floor, which I believe its all single rooms. The 3rd floor looked like shared rooms. We were pretty lucky with a room to himself. The room had a small 32 inch TV and its own bathroom. Another good thing about The Villas was that they do the patients laundry almost everyday and the meals smelled so good. Not typical hospital food. When he first went to The Villas in November 2021, visitations were outside in the lanai area, on the first floor, due to Covid, but eventually they lifted the restrictions, and we were allowed to spend time with him in his room. Not too sure what their visitation policies are now, due to the high covid numbers. (As of December 2021). Parking is free with validation too! I never had a problem looking for parking in the structure. Even thought I cant compare The Villas to other nursing facilities, I would recommend The Villas if you need to find a place for a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). read more

I'll add my angle objectively: The Villas shines from the start. The security up front are friendly and helpful. The business office is great with explaining the process and providing updates. Stephen Brewer, Director of Nursing, was involved in our case prior to admission and throughout the stay. The PT department found a baseline and goals. Nurses Ally, Rocia, Dusty and Mya were rock solid through the tough times. Communication was excellent. Basically everyone was on point. --some details that made our family feel comfortable at The Villas: English is the primary language on the floor, changing it up as necessary. Call lights are answered in a very timely manner. Menu options are customizable, and was reportedly tasty. The TVs actually work at the Villas! The general feeling that everyone cares is what makes the difference. A very clean facility since it was once St Francis Hospital. It has been renovated into a rehab facility now called the Villas. My mom was admitted in the Villa for follow rehab care for PT strengthing recovering from pneumonia. On a given day per shift, there is 2 nurses and about 4-5 nurses aide. Most of the staff is nice and knowledgeable. They have a spacious gym where the PT/OT staff work with the patients. The dining room is also clean and spacious. The 3 stars. The Villas kept my mom sitting in a wheelchair in her room vs a regular chair. And because she was their to strengthened her legs, the staff didn't walk her enough daily until the last week before discharge and only until we requested to the staff that we wanted my mom walking more thus I think with my mom sitting all the time she developed bed sores. This place lacks communication. It wasn't until our family made contact with the social worker we found out the progress of my mom and an estimate of my mom's discharge and her after care and we scrambled a bit since mom could no longer live alone once being discharged. read more

Many facilities promise they will treat you like family, but the Villas genuinely delivers on that promise. The good care and compassion is evident from the aides and nursing staff, PT and OT therapists, dietitians, housekeeping, as well as to the administration, and particularly the Director of Nursing. My husband is severely de-conditioned after a lengthy hospital stay, and it is clear that everyone at the Villas wants to make this recovery work for him. We sense that people care about both of us - patient and caregiver, and they want to make choices which reflect his needs. My husband says, "I can tell they care, and are not just putting in their hours." If there is a waiting list, it is definitely worth the wait for a room at the Villas. read more
