Becky is a brusque, opinionated salesman in the business of selling unusual in-stock frames. Her Wizard of Oz sales technique involves bringing frames from behind the scenes and convincing the client one is absolutely PERFECT for him/her. When I expressed concern that my vision was worse upon putting on the new glasses, I was advised that if the situation didn't improve after 2 weeks of constant wear, I should return to my ophthalmologist to get a new prescription. My 'corrected' vision did not improve, my ophthalmologist confirmed the original Rx and I'm stuck with $1300 glasses because that's the price I'll pay to avoid dealing with this business again. read more

I see a lot of negative reviews. I went to The View because l needed good glasses with good lenses. I'm blind in one eye and protecting the vision in my other eye is vital to me. I went with a friend who warned me l might not like Becky (the owner) because she is opinionated and brusque. Well, Becky is brusque and opinionated, but I also found her to be kind, warm, and very knowledgeable. I told Becky l didn't like round glasses. She insisted they were right for my face. Try THESE, she said. I did. And l loved them. She explained why l liked them when l never liked any other round glasses. She spent over an hour with me and I learned a lot. She won't sell you glasses if she doesn't think they're right for you. The lenses she put in the frames l bought are far superior to those in my previous glasses. She takes her reputation seriously. She sells high quality glasses that are expensive, but for me, they're worth it. I'm not rich and I compromise on other things, but not my vision. Go to the View with an open mind. Becky is a treasure and her glasses are gorgeous, fit perfectly, and come with high quality lenses. I won't go anywhere else. read more

I haven't written a review for a long time because I hardly get out, but this was just too much. I first went by this shop when I began thinking about new frames for my glasses. Their page didn't say that you needed an appt., but when we got there we weren't allowed to go in. We were told that it was because they suffered some losses due to public demonstrations that got out of hand. Okay, I get that. They also told me that I could not get an appointment unless I brought in a new prescription, which I found odd. So I finally saw my eye doc, got a Rx and made an appointment. When I got there, they had to unlock the door to let me in. We're talking eyeglass frames here, not diamonds or fine art. When we went in, there were very few frames in sight. I had to explain what I wanted and the woman went back and brought out a small tray. As I made eliminations, she'd bring out another tray. I was never allowed to see anything that she had not chosen FOR me. That being said, there were some frames that I really liked. I knew the prices were going to be on the high side because I've bought luxury frames before. I told her that at the price she was quoting, I would buy the frames and get the lenses later. That's when the bomb dropped. I was not allowed to buy the frames without the lenses! And that will be another $600, please. Okay, I'm old. I've been wearing prescription glasses for over 40 years and I've never heard anything like this nor have I paid that kind of price for lenses. So I asked her why they had to be done there. She said that they didn't want "just anyone" putting lenses in "their" frames because it might be done wrong and that they sold ONLY "high end" frames and would allow ONLY "high end" lenses in "their" frames. I thought that once I paid for them, they were mine, but apparently not. Seriously? In all of Greensboro, there is not one optician qualified to make a lens good enough for their frames? I'm also apparently not smart enough to make an informed choice of a qualified eye lab. It had taken us an hour of travel time and an hour of appointment time. That little fact should have been presented when I called for the appointment! My afternoon was shot and so was my mood. Also, you cannot take any pictures while you're there. So, if I hadn't had my family with me, I wouldn't have been able to get their opinions on what they thought looked good. Why? I'm going out on a limb and saying that they don't want you going home and finding them cheaper elsewhere. I did send them a note asking about the designers and prices I had looked at. They wrote back immediately and told me that they would get back to me yesterday. Not a word has come since. So I went to Charlotte today and got a great pair of luxury frames from one of the same designers for significantly less and I can get the lenses anywhere I want. Ironically, when they asked me why I drove all the way to Charlotte and I told them the story, they had heard it many times before. Apparently The View on Elm has quite the reputation for narcissism and poor service. read more

For those hard-to-find eyeglasses, the View on Elm IS the place. The View carries boutique brands exclusively ; there are no shoddy, Chinese-made "designer" frames here! The selection is amazing: Alain Mikli, Etnia Barcelona, Face a Face, Freudenhaus, ic! berlin, J.F. Rey, Kazuo Kawasaki, SALT, and others. Along with the excellent selection, the shop features beautiful artwork and very comfortable surroundings while making your eye-wear selection. As one would expect, the View dispenses only high-end lenses (Crizal Sapphire UV) for its frames. While the prices are high, you get what you pay for; the View's pricing is similar to comparable shops in other cities. I was assisted by Deb, an optician, who was both pleasant and knowledgeable. While I already knew what I wanted, she offered me several dozen (literally) other options to try. It was fun to try on different looks without being pressured to buy or led to a particular frame. For the life of me I cannot believe this place is in business? The guy I talked Brooks Ritezel, couldn't explain why they no longer carried Oliver Peoples, he said they didn't carry other very high end frames I asked about, but was so incredibly rude it was unbelievable. He talked over me. Until I set him straight. He answered questions by saying "nope" quite often, with no explanation. I asked him if he had eyeglasses with the wood engraved and he said yes, but they were very expensive. I said expensive is relative to the person buying the product and since I know these other brands, I am pretty confident you can't stun me. He didn't, $2,200. I knew it was total bs because he didn't know the name of the manufacturer of the frame, nor could he tell me the type of wood used. His response was they are from California. As if that matters? I certainly hope the owner, Becky a total nobody, responds but I couldn't imagine an explanation that would explain my experience. I asked him from the other reviews that he had a dress code, was that part true? He said yea? So I said well I was going to wear flip flops and a T-shirt to his store, would he let me inside and speak to me as he is on the phone and he said "yep". I am looking forward to being there when this place goes out of business. I'd give it less than 6 months. Unless they are just using the store to take a loss. Personally I'd like to meet this guy and belittle the shit out of him but, when the doors close, it will be a midnight move. I can't imagine having to deal with this jackass after the sale, if there was an issue. I refuse to let you spend $1.00 here. This store has the worst customer service I have ever experienced first hand. The guy Brooks Ritezel, I spoke to, like Trump said about Mitt, can get on his knees. I must say I appreciate good service, humility and value. You will "NOT" find any of that at this place. I was prepared to purchase some stylish frames and appropriate lenses from this retailer that claims to "NOT" fit into the crowd with other eyewear stores. They are right as I wouldn't shop there if it were the last eyewear store in NC. Rude, pretentious and just plain arrogant. My girlfriend wanted to see what I was interested in so I FaceTimed her privately while I was selecting my eyewear. My husband and I went to View on Elm on a recommendation from a very stylish friend of ours. We live in Roanoke, VA and the selection of frames here is limited. We went in 'blind' (pun intended) not really knowing what to expect. First Brooks greeted us and then introduced us to Becky who promptly let me know she would never had put me in a pair of glasses with a keyhole bridge. So that was our start. I bristled just a bit, as I'm not used to being slightly insulted upon first introduction. Well, let me just say this woman knows of what she speaks. She has an amazing sense of what will look good on your face and takes you slowly, step by step out of your comfort zone, into a choice that looks amazing on you. Even my husband, who is kind of a 'steady as you go New England' guy chose something incredibly stylish with a high design element that looks fantastic with his high cheekbones. By the end of our afternoon there, we had a) both ordered amazing glasses which I can't wait to receive and b) more importantly, laughed, cried, hugged and fell in complete adoration of Becky. If you are a complete snob with seriously pretentious ways, then this is the place for you. If you have the money to invest in terrific eyewear and understand that the final call is yours and not the designer, optician or salesperson, then this place is not for you. From the beginning, Becky attempted to be the only one in the room that knew anything and only brought out glasses that she picked citing that they had been robbed before and could not allow us to see numerous frames at once. Additionally, she pushed the frames that she had designed as the best and most stylish. When she saw that I was not picking up what she was putting down, she tried very hard to RE-engage me - uh, not happening sweetie! My sister continued with her and was much more willing to look over her insults and snobbery. When it is my money, I decide and no bully optician like Becky will will change that. I went on to have a phenomenal experience and bought 2 very terrific pairs of glasses that were perfectly fit to my face and I love them because I chose them. read more

Absolutely aweful! As a first time customer eager to purchase 2 pairs of frames that I identified on their website I was totally shocked by the rude welcome at the door from the burgandy haired razor cut employee plus one. As the door clearly states to ring bell for entry the lady approached the door pointing and mouthing words from the inside that I could not understand. She and her coworker proceeded to open the door and ask me what does the sign say. I read it and she said what else. When I continued she came out of the door and began to point at another hand written sign that said to pull handle. For some reason I began to explain which letters I was reading she abruptly cut me off reading and pointing at the other sign. As a customer who came to specifically spend money on two pairs of designer glasses I was completely caught off guard by the fact that I am being humiliated and belittled by the employee prior to even making it in the door! When I finally realized that I am debating with someone about why they should let me in their business to spend hundreds of my earned dollars; I dropped my jaw, said nevermind, and proceeded to turn around to cross the street. Only then did she grab my arm and say common don't be that way your so cute.... I said have a nice day and walked to my car. As I sat in my car in shock I initially thought it was due to the fact that as an African-American woman I didn't appear to fit their normal customer profile. However after replaying the incident over and over in my mind I don't quite think it was racially motivated so much at all. I genuinely believe that she was just a rude and obnoxious person that could not resist the urge to be sarcastic/anal even if it risked losing a new customer.
