I hope you don't ever have to go to this facility, only because of what type of service they offer, which is treatment for animals who have cancer. I, unfortunately, have a dog with a moderate/aggressive form of cancer who is receiving chemotherapy here. The facility itself and the research aspect is state of the art. Apparently, they are nationally known (also are the largest stand alone oncology clinic for pets in the U.S.) and have received many accolades for the exemplary work they provide to animals (dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, etc). Some of the services provided include chemo, radiation, and clinical trials. Their staff and doctors are top notch...educated, kind, and available. I've called on the phone a few times and instead of waiting for a call back, my dog's doctor has picked up immediately to speak to me. Impressive. I was given a wealth of information during my dog's consultation visit, all the pros/cons of each option for his treatment. I also received a few phone calls after that first visit, to answer more questions I might have had and help decide what route to take. Each subsequent visit, I complete a "quality of life" survey about my dog, in addition to his bloodwork, a physical exam, and his chemo treatment. Very thorough. The cost is the only downfall, as with any medical treatment, especially for pets. They don't do payment plans, but do accept pet insurance and offer a credit card type program, to pay off your bill over time, should you need it. read more

Our dog couldn't have had better care than at the Veterinary Cancer Center. I have never met such a group of compassionate, empathetic and loving people. Dr. Ware and Dr. McDaniel treated Bella like she was their own. They are doctors who care about animals. Bella was diagnosed with cancer in August 2018. If we decided not to treat her, she had only weeks to live. Bella was only 8 years old, so we decided to go ahead with radiation and chemotherapy. Bella did very well with radiation. When the chemo started, she had some days of feeling sick, but most days she was great. At checkups we saw that her tumor had shrunk. After Christmas, Bella didn't seem well again. It turned out that her cancer had spread. We decided not to finish her last chemo treatment. We kept her comfortable and gave her the prescribed painkillers in case she had pain. Bella let us know when she was ready to go. She passed away on January 29, 2019. I am grateful that we had the chance to extend her life a little bit longer without her suffering. I am grateful to the staff and doctors at The Veterinary Cancer Center for their compassion and care for Bella during these past several months. I hate the thought of anyone needing to go here because at that point you're already in a bad situation, but this practice literally saved my cat's life. I mean, he got the point where I think it was a matter of a couple weeks before he'd have to be put down but they tried everything and with the last possible treatment, it worked and he got another two years out of life before a blood clot finally took him down. The staff is caring and helpful and just the best and the doctors here are fantastic. God willing I won't ever have to take a pet in for cancer treatment again, but if I do I know exactly where I'll be taking them. read more

There are no words to describe the great level of care our dog received from VCC. Dr. Ware was outstanding, extremely knowledgeable and helpful every step of the way. His treatment gave us a long time with our dog Pippa but she finally succumbed to her cancer. The staff has been outstanding as well, treating our dog tenderly and lovingly. This center was so good, I commuted from Long Island (a 2 hour drive) to have her treated there. I would never consider any other facility for treatment of my pets based upon the care she was given. A place with the name of "Veterinary Cancer Center" is not a place you ever want to have to go to, but if need to, VCC is the right place to be. I had tried other treatment facilities and been very disappointed. VCC was the answer I was looking for. The doctor and the staff were all compassionate, professional people, and worked hard with me to develop a plan for my dog's treatment. Ultimately that plan included a referral to a surgical veterinary oncologist outside of their practice--this practice doesn't do surgery, and they were willing to do what was right by my dog. After the surgery, the VCC has diligently followed up with me and provided the support and options we have needed to care for our dog. Bravo guys! read more

He received vincrintine sub-q which is lethal. supposed to be administered intravenous. So far so good. My cat was diagnosed with cancer on Tuesday and we were able to get an appt by Thursday. They were very accommodating and the receptionist was sweet and attentive. The hospital is really nice, very state of the art and modern. It was really easy to get to from southern westchester. Dr. Gerald Post is great. He explains everything clearly and takes his time. I highly recommend him. Didn't give it 5 stars because it's only my first visit, but if things continue how they did today, I'll definitely update to 5 stars. read more

The Veterinary Cancer is an amazing facility located in Norwalk, CT, and we are very fortunate that this one of a kind facility is here in CT!! Dr. Post and his wonderful staff are great people who care about you and make you feel so comfortable every time you visit. I went here a few years ago and when my cat had cancer and I told the lady not to touch him --meaning don't put in the needles or anything in him just "check him" Without my consent she poked him and two days later he died because the lungs were over filled with fluid. I highly recommend putting your pet to sleep instead of making these guys try to cure what they can't. I would not recommend this place at all. read more

We received yet another call from Dr. Farrelly inquiring about how Kobi was doing with his treatments at another facility, (we had to utilize the services of another facility because of hours and traffic, see review for NEVCCC in Windsor). Kobi only saw Dr. Farrelly once, for a consult, and yet he is still concerned and willing to answer any questions we may have. Dr. Farrelly defines the term 'caring professional'. read more

This is a very difficult subject for me as we just had to euthanize our beloved dog, Coco in September. I must acknowledge Dr. John Farrelly and radiation tech Rosie Calderon for the extra years we got to spend with her. Coco was diagnosed with a particularly aggressive form of nasal cancer in 2010 when she was 10 years old. Dr. Farrelly and Rosie were both working at the wonderful Animal Medical Center in NYC at the time. The survival timeline quoted to us was 2-3 months if we chose radiation treatment and 30 days if we did nothing. We opted for the treatments. Coco was with us for 5 more years. These are people that care about you and your pet. When they moved to the Veterinary Cancer Center, we followed. Were there places closer to our home that we could have chosen? Absolutely. Dr. Farrelly calls frequently to make sure things are going well. If you call him or email him-he replies in a timely manner. Rosie always made a fuss whenever we came in for a checkup. If your pet has the misfortune of getting cancer, they deserve the very best care, and this is where it is. read more

As with others who provided commentary my experience is from my cat being diagnosed with cancer. I knew dr post from Long Island and felt it best to bring her here; my trust was right. Care is professional but compassionate. I had to bring her 5 days a week during the worst winter, they were understanding and flexible; themselves braving the weather to be there. My experience seemed echoed by the many people and animals I saw during that month and the 4 times I went back since. My baby was give 3 months without surgery and radiology; that was last November and she is doing great. I agree with all comments on cost, this is very expensive. Misdiagnosis, then gave him chemo! My dog did not even have cancer! Found out when Roscoe got sick from the chemo treatment and had to bring to local emergency hospital. He was there for 4 days. During this time they found he did not have cancer at all. When I told the oncologist they said mistakes happen. This cost me over $3000. I have filed in small claims court to get my money back. I am also reporting them to every Vet assoc I can and state education dept too. All they are concerned about is money!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

We brought our dog to VCC for treatment of lymphoma. The staff is nice but almost saccharine sweet and over doing it while you are there. The Dr. never really appeared to do a full physical exam either before the first treatment or on revisits for subsequent treatments. It just did not seem thorough. When our dog developed other medical problems, they were not helpful. It is possible that the cancer treatment caused these problems but they did not seem interested in looking into this. And when our dog died, we did not hear from them. In fact they never contacted us to inquire about how he was doing once we let them know he was declining. So to me, their show of caring is all very fake. read more

I have no reason to believe that the care my dog got here wasn't top notch, he just finished radiation. The cost I expected and don't believe it is any higher than any other place that gives this kind of treatment. One thing I do know is that they were extremely kind and caring to my dog. Believe me, that's something you need when you are bringing your animal in for cancer treatment. They couldn't have been nicer to me and my dog. I should also point out that when there was a scheduling snafu on their part that created an inconvenience for me, they gave me a credit for an item on the bill as a courtesy. Impressive. read more

Although we wish we never had to come here, we are so glad that this is where we chose to take our dog when our primary vet told us she had cancer. Dr. Kevin Ware was absolutely amazing from the start. He offered us numerous options with absolutely no pressure as to which way to go. I felt like he was honest about the prognosis, the side effects and whether certain diagnostic tools were necessary. Although I read many scary things about the side effects of radiation, our dog tolerated it well and she had a very good month immediately thereafter and held on for 6 months post diagnosis. Dr. Ware was also very responsive via email and when we called, explained things very clearly and thoroughly and was honest, compassionate and thoughtful throughout. The support team (from reception to the vet techs) were also very kind and supportive throughout. I've never had to put a pet down before but when the time came for our dog to go, I was glad VCC is where we went. She took a sudden turn for the worse and VCC were great accommodating the day of and staying later than their usual hours. Our dog was surrounded not only by her family but also by the vet team that knew her and had been treating her for months. I felt like she was not anxious and at peace in her last moments and I really appreciated the kind words from everyone in the practice, the time they allowed us with our dog without us ever feeling rushed, and almost the surreal hush that came over the office as our dog passed. Again, I hope you never have to take your pup to an oncologist but if you do, I highly recommend VCC. read more

Initially, when our cat, Savannah, was diagnosed with a nasal lymphoma, were went to a highly rated oncologist in the NY area. While there, our cat's treatment was very, very good, but we felt as though there could be more. We simply thought she was being treated as a set plan for a patient with nasal lymphoma, not as an individual with unique responses. We sought to find oncologists who were not only acutely knowledgable about her cancer, but who were also astute enough to know when to vary a procedure or protocol based upon an individual's response. We demanded outside the box thinking, while still possessing state of the art information swirling around the wild beast known as cancer. Yes, we set about seeking the Einsteins of animal oncology. Dr. Post and Dr. Farrelly secured the title. We found the best team possible in the tristate area. Their facility is immaculate and equipped with the most up to date technology as well as a highly compassionate and talented staff. From the front office to the back, you will walk away in the best possible hands during the most horrible time of your life. As for our cat, she was diagnosed in Dec. 2013. She successfully completed radiation and chemo. She continues to be in full remission with the best possible odds in her favor. This didn't happen by accident.
