I took Winston, my English bulldog here and discovered that he had bladder stones. Dr. Stevens is an excellent diagnostician, and was up front about Winston's condition, and that she did not feel comfortable doing this kind of surgery. She told me about a surgeon who could do it at her office, but I opted for a large surgical hospital. My Winston passed 2 days after his surgery, I feel that was caused by mistakes due to a young, inexperienced surgeon. Even though my Winston didn't pass in her clinic, Dr. Stevens and her whole staff wrote me a letter of condolence. Dr. Stevens and her staff really do treat your pet as their own. THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMALS. I've been bringing my dog Dexter here for two years, and never have we been seen by Dr. Stephens herself...that is until we had a bad experience with some antibiotics that were pushed on us by the other doctor (who, by the way, is overly prescription happy). The meds were for skin scratching bc he had lots of redness, but no actual infection. She said they were a preventative? I was reluctant to take the meds in the first place, but decided to go for them bc Dr. Knows Best. Wrong. After two full days on the antibiotics, he became depressed, lethargic, his tail was always down between his legs, and he just wasn't himself. Took back the meds immediately for Dr. Stephen to argue with me about a return. Not only that, she told me it was my fault!! That I am the owner and I ultimately make the decisions, and that it was a bad one...A bad decision for listening to the professional advice of a doctor?! Please! She eventually gave me a referral to a doggie dermatologist...which, shouldn't that have been done on the first place?? This woman and everyone in her practice only cares about one thing: MONEY. Never have a gotten the feeling that they actually care about my dog. I am honestly surprised they have not gone out of business, bc every time we've gone in for a visit, there hasn't been any other animals in alongside us (which should have been my first sign). They probably continue to stay in business bc of the over exorbitant pricing, is my best guess. Oh, and I've never walked out of here without paying less than $200 per visit. Oh and they charge a $50 new pet intake fee, which isn't surprising over the "boutique" vet feel they've got going on. Go somewhere nearby, like Campbell Road Animal Hospital or Murphy Road Animal Hospital. No upfront and hidden costs...and, most importantly, no prescription happy doctors. Don't learn the hard way like we did. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRACTICE!!! read more

WONDERFUL VET & STAFF!! Before going to The Vet, we took our dogs & cats to The Vet House for 5+ years. Our recent experiences made us decide to switch vets. Based on Yelp reviews, we went to Dr. Stevens with our cat, who had been losing weight and acting lethargic. Our previous vet didn't have any answers or suggestions, but Dr. Stevens listened to my concerns and worked to figure it out quickly. My cat needed 5 teeth removed, diseased gum tissue removed, several roots removed, had a kidney stone, a bladder infection, and fungus in one of his paws that caused damage in his claws (which the previous vet accounted to old age, not fungus). A week later and ALL of the above issues have been addressed. The staff is very friendly and the office is clean and smells great. We will be taking all of our pets to The Vet going forward. read more

My dog scratched his ear and apparently ripped/tore his ear last night. The Vet was able to take me in right away in the morning. They were friendly and very nice. They gave my dog some antibiotics and pain medication. I have no complaints because the examination fee was a reasonable price along with the meds. About $100 for those but what I do want to say is the nail trimming and hair clipping (ears) were super pricey. $54 for the hair trimmed on one ear and $15 for the nail trim. I mean, I can get my dog fully groomed for $40. So a tip would be to get your dog groomed first before visiting The Vet to save $70 if you ever have the same or similar situation as my dog. But overall, it's a good place for your pets. read more

I nominate "The Vet" for sainthood. My inquisite beloved Brussels Griffon pup got out, ventured onto Jupiter road, and was intentionally hit by two perverts in a Cavalier. A good Samaratin saw the incident, stopped traffic and took Maisy to The Vet. Maisy's life was over, and I was/am heartbroken. The staff at The Vet, Dr.Stevens and her staff were so compassionate, and tried the impossible to bring my best friend back to life. Tears in my eyes, I went to The Vet the next day to pay my bill. Was visiting from Austin and our dog had a rash and began having issues. Found this vet via her 5 star rating on yelp! Got to add to that! The office was able to get us in to see the vet the same day. :) kuddos! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful (I also had a small toddler with me - yep a bit crazy). The Vet was nice and took a really thorough exam of my dog. Figured out the diagnosed (UTI and an staph infection). Prescribed her meds, gave me a copy of the medical records (the results of her urine sample) we were on our way! A few days later my dogs symptoms began clearing up. Prices were comparable - about average. Great place if your in the area! read more

As a first time furbaby mom, I was nervous taking Vash, my kitty, anywhere for treatment. The SPCA set us up with the VCA, but um..not a good fit. When I took him to The Vet, I was relieved to see him not only relaxed in their hands, but even playful! Dr.Stevens calm, kind care was so effective that Vash was even able to have his ears cleaned without much hassle (a feat I have not yet been able to replicate at home haha). I was worried that he had a sinus infection, and they got him all fixed up- they even called me to follow up on how Vash was responding to the medication. LOVE. read more

My dog was showing signs of trouble in one of her eyes. I turned to Yelp and found this Vet. Saw the reviews and the "First visit free" promotion and scheduled an appointment. I stay nowhere near Garland but a good vet is hard to find and I'm willing to drive a little further for one. While in the lobby I ask the receptionist about the yelp deal and she responds by saying she doesn't know anything about it. I tell her that the office advertises a free initial exam for new clients. She repeats that she doesn't have any information about that deal. "Hmm, that sucks" I think to myself. I brush it off thinking that her eye will need more than an initial exam, so I wasn't sure our visit would have a qualified anyway. Regardless I thought her response was lame. We see the vet, she was very nice, and it turns out that my dog has an ulcer in her eye. We are given a couple of medications and I'm told it has the potential to get worse if not treated attentively, which includes several doses of the two different medications daily. I had to call on friends to help me apply her meds on time when I was at work. I don't play around when it comes to my dogs health. If I can avoid prolonging any suffering she may have I will do whatever I can. Not to mention how expensive visits to the vet can be! I called to schedule her follow up. They cannot see us for another several days. I asked to speak with the vet, because I wanted to know if I needed to continue her drops and medication or stop until the follow up. I wasn't sure if one of the medications was a steroid which can be dangerous with prolonged use. The girl who answered the phone replied that the vet was busy but that the medication needed to be stopped until we could see the vet. I stopped my dogs medication for several days per the directions given to me. Come to find out that I was given the wrong information and my dog was supposed to continue receiving the treatment the entire time.They tested her eye and the ulcer was not healed. I was now required to take my dog to see an ophthalmologist. I was not happy and I expressed to them how serious of a mistake it was to be misinformed by one of their staff. The vet asked me what day and time I called and I gave her the information. She walked out with the assistant and said she was going to ask some questions. While she was out, her assistant walked back in to grab something from the room. During this time she asked me if something was wrong and I replied, "yes of course something is wrong. I take my dogs health extremely seriously and making mistakes on medication is absolutely unacceptable." In which she replied, "well all of these medications look the same and it's easy to mix them up. It happens." When I tell you I had to bite my lip.... it took everything for me to restrain myself. IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR FROM THE PEOPLE TREATING YOUR FAMILY?? My dog is my family. As ridiculous as it may be to some people, that's how important she is to me. I glared at her and felt my fist clench as she walked out. The vet returns and claims that they are not sure who took the phone call but that they are going to get to the bottom of it (right). I am charged the full amount for the visit and I leave feeling like shit because my dog continues to suffer. I realize that people make mistakes. But to have this situation handled the way it was is ridiculous. If you make a mistake, apologize and fix it. To brush it off as no big deal was extremely offensive. There is no way for me to know 100% if missing her medication during that time hurt the healing process, (how could it not?) but it certainly didn't help. My vet bills from this office were at least $450 for a problem that only got worse under their care. read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! Everyone, and I mean everyone from the receptionist to the doctor, care about your pet and making sure they have a good experience. My dog has a very rare and hard to diagnose disease called SLO that makes her nails fall off. I had to take her in for surgery and Dr. Stevens called me as soon as they were done to give me a status report. One time she even called me over the weekend to make sure she was recovering ok. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I even got a Christmas card from them-lol. Even if I move, I will continue to take my dogs here. read more

I really liked this place at first, and they were great with our dogs. However, my cat is not a friendly dude and we've experienced his "love" for vet exams multiple times when we lived elsewhere. Even though he was hostile, that vet and his tech got the job done just fine. We took him to The Vet for the first time (just for vaccinations), and the instant he swiped at a tech they tell us they will need to sedate him for $90. No. I'm sorry. I worked at clinics for years and we never sedated an animal for aggression (during a routine exam) unless the owner specifically requested it beforehand. We got out the muzzle, or the cat gloves, or a towel, WHATEVER we needed and got the job done. I'm very disappointed in this clinic for taking the easy way out and then charging us for their own fears. read more

I absolutely LOVE the place! It looks small from outside but it feels so welcome inside. Everyone are smiling. The staffs are nice, speak in manner and respect us. Cindy is just amazing with my dog. She did tricks and explained careful the condition of my dog. The assistant talked about the prices before continue the treatment and then provided careful instruction how to take care of him at home. I brought my yorkie puppy here a few weeks ago for shots and a puppy check up. This place is clean. These people are friendly.. This Dr. might spend more time loving on your fur baby than getting to know you. That's what it should be about.... Fast forward to yesterday. We had another appointment for her next round of shots. An hour before our appointment, I found my sweet baby in our 51 degree pool, exhausted and with hypothermia. I called the vet and they instructed me to wrap her up and bring her now. The sweet young lady on the phone had to of felt like a 911 operator because I was a crying panicked mess. We got there and Dr. Stevens allowed me in the back and they started warming her up and bringing her back. I will be forever grateful for this office and staff and the way they handled my Gracie and for letting me be with her during the traumatic experience. They charged me less than $100 bucks. They saved her life and it was considered a "Sick Vet Visit". Not an Emergency Visit. Not an opportunity to get rich off of a lady that just saw her puppy almost die. I'm floored. Dr. Stevens gave me her cell phone number in case we needed her after hours. This doctor knows her stuff and truly does it for the love of the animals. I highly recommend The Vet. read more

Dr Stevens and her entire staff are the kindest and most caring people I have ever met. We have been going to The Vet for over 15 years and every experience we have had has been positive. Dr Stevens is incredibly knowledgeable and will do anything to ensure the health and safety of your pet. One of our dogs had epilepsy and she was incredibly knowledgeable about this disorder and because of this she was able to get our dog's seizures under control which allowed her to live a normal and happy life.
