I got the BBQ Wrap and it was so delicious... Whenever I visit family, i'll be sure to stop by here!!

I'm not vegan, but I do like trying vegan food, and have been looking forward to trying The Veggie since I first heard about them. Located in the old home of Happy Tummy at Lowe Mill, The Veggie retains the open, airy feel and has added some bright and beautiful colors to the walls, menu, and food. I opted to order online for pickup. Online ordering was fairly easy, though I was never able to find my way to where I could order any kind of drink. I really wanted to try their lemonade (heard great things!) but couldn't find an option for that. Maybe it's meant to be that way, maybe it's because I was ordering on my phone as opposed to a computer, or maybe I'm just a dunce. But I was able to order a lemonade at the counter when I got there to pick up my food, so at least it worked out in the end. I was told my food would be ready at 2:30. I was working in the Mill so I showed up right on time. I had to wait a couple extra minutes but not more than 5, so I consider that pretty good. They were decently busy. Masking is encouraged at this restaurant still, and as far as I could tell all staff were masked. I appreciate that, personally. The staff member I interacted with was pleasant and prompt. I do agree with other reviewers that the dining space itself catches a decent bit of the smoke/scents from the kitchen. I didn't find it overwhelming and it's a product of the space they're in, but just something to be aware of if you're super sensitive to that. I ordered the chickun basket -- fried oyster mushroom "chicken" strips with French fries and a dipping sauce of my choice (ranch, obviously). The only lemonade available was charcoal lemonade, so that's what I had to drink. If you want vegan food that resembles "real" meat, this should scratch that itch. The bigger pieces of mushroom still had a slightly spongy mushroom texture, but I'd say about 80% of my mushroom pieces were similar enough to chicken that I didn't really miss it. The batter went a really long way -- almost exactly like really solid chicken tender batter. It was crispy and crunchy. I will note the size/shape is closer to a nugget than a strip, at least in my order. That was fine for me! The ranch, being vegan, was (for me) missing a little thickness from the loss of buttermilk, and also a little herby for my personal preference....BUT, for vegan ranch, I liked it! I've had much worse NON-vegan ranch in my time, lol. I liked the fries well enough, too. The lemonade didn't have any weird flavor from the charcoal (idk what charcoal lemonade is supposed to taste like normally so...yeah); it just tasted like regular, albeit quite good, lemonade! It was pretty acidic (the roof of my mouth complained later that evening, lol) and not crazy sweet, but I personally like that in lemonade. I had two coworkers that later ordered their lunch here as well and they both seemed to enjoy their choices (another chickun basket and something that looked like a salad/greens bowl). All in all, I'd be happy to return to try brunch or perhaps their take on a Philly -- that looks good. I'd also order my same meal again. We were the first customers in the door at the 11:00 opening. It took a full 50 minutes before our food arrived at the table. Several customers arrived after us, got their orders and left before we got our food. My daughter had ordered the advertised special dessert of the day, red velvet cake. By the time our meals arrived we were in a hurry to leave for another event some distance away so we had to rush through our entrees. When we asked about our daughter's dessert we were told the cake wasn't out of the oven yet but would be in about 5 more minutes . Ten minutes later when we asked again we were told the cake was out but had to cool enough before being iced. When we asked again we were told it would be another ten to fifteen minutes. By then - 12:35- we had no option but to leave for our next event. Horrible planning and execution by the staff. With a little common sense an advertised special dessert, cake, could easily have been prepared in advance and ready to serve by the 11:00 instead of a full hour and a half AFTER opening time. Insane! Sorry but 50 minutes is entirely too long to wait for a simple order and not having the advertised dessert of the day available earlier is just inexcusable. My semi-annual visit to Alabama, always try to support new eateries and especially "mom and pop" joints Seems this location was elsewhere until only a few weeks ago so Yelp wouldn't let me "check in" (kept saying I was too far away" Located next door to Sprouts in 72W, GPS had no issue finding it and the signage outside was easy to spot Small, quaint, well lit and clean: you order at the register and wait for to-go, or can sit at the small tables along the wall. ?maybe 15-20 people max can be seated at one time? Most of the folk I saw came and went (food delivery or grab and go people). I chose to dine in The staff was friendly and helpful and my food was fried to order, and not sitting under a warmer I was meeting a friend for a late lunch (1:15) on a Tuesday and all the "grab and go pre-made sides" were all sold out...that's a good sign 3 items on the menu were either sold out, or unable to make due to supplier issues, (appreciative of the staff letting me know up front) but there were still plenty of options to choose from A meat-eater now, I was born and raised a vegetarian in the 70s and 80s. So I've had my share of meat-less substitutes and have seen the vast change in comparable offerings Similar to other "new" vegetarian/vegan places, many of the food offerings use the popular Impossible and Beyond meatless options for their burgers or chili and such. Not bad...both companies are raking in the dough for the substitute product However I can't swear it's a "healthy" option. Perhaps healthier than meat, due to the slow breakdown of flesh and fats in your body, but the trade off may be higher in sodium and of course the subs are still a "processed food" But I digress...the review is on taste/atmosphere, and not specifically about health The menu is vastly FRIED foods seemingly made to offer quick tasty fried to-go non-meat choices. And with that in mind, it meets its purposes I ordered the fried shrimp basket (8 pieces of meat-sub in the curved shape of shrimp and a whiff of seafood as it passed the nostrils Not a real-shrimp eater, I can only say it did have a unique texture...almost like a thick potato cake. Fried and seasoned well, there was a remoulade sauce that was good, but not necessarily needed due to the seasoning on the "shrimp". They were laid atop "shoe string type French fries, ALSO well seasoned-no ketchup needed I added a crab-cake, to round off my "seafood theme" and it too had a nice texture and was well seasoned very seasoned: meaning a hefty amount of salt-like flavoring. Probably wouldn't/shouldn't eat that meal regularly if you have high blood pressure (but again, prob shouldn't eat any fried real shrimp/ff and crabcakes on a regular) My friend ordered a kale salad, which was a sizable portion and a side of tumeric chips The tumeric gave the chips a unique flavor that I appreciated. Might take some folk gettin used to...but different isn't bad I ordered a $5 homemade?lemonade to go, that was "infused" with charcoal (which purportedly have health benefits). It was tasty. I'll go back and try a salad/cooler to go healthier options next time. A 3star because it's above average, but I wasn't overly impressed due to the mostly fried and use of the processed meat sub. But I understand you have an audience you have to cater to, and for now...that's what's in Note: I'd like to see more vegan/veggie options be made from scratch, and from the creative minds of the chef (My mom used to make "meat balls" from pecan meal -pecans we got from our trees in the backyard in south Alabama...so I know it's doable) read more

My review is based on different reasons than I've previously rated places on. I switched to vegan for health reasons, and places like this seem to remove the health right out of the vegan diet. So MANY of the offerings are deep fried and what I tried was extremely salty. The food was tasty, but IMO, it was a bad trade-off. The next day, my blood pressure was 20 points higher, and eating here was the only thing I'd done differently. I wish places like this wouldn't try so hard to make vegan food taste so much like "regular" food. I'd prefer vegan food tasting good based on healthy cooking methods and healthy spices and condiments. Stepping down off my soapbox... The prices were pretty high, but I guess that's to be expected (?). The eating environment was nice looking, but it seemed pretty cold (I never took my coat off). read more

I had to call in to find the spot, as I'd just gotten to Huntsville, saw a bike shop, a marketplace going on, and a big art building. I missed the big parking lot altogether, listening to the GPS. So yes, it's at Lowe Mill, tucked in on the row with something to do with strings and another shop (I can't recall the names). I got the special, a breakfast bowl with cheese grits, with impossible sausage, eggs, sautéed peppers, and potatoes. It was accompanied by a delushious peach muffin that I asked for ahead of time because I was really hungry and the grits took a few more minutes, and a bowl of strawberries, blueberries, and mandarin oranges, which I ate hours later at home and which were perfect together. It was seasoned well, lots of textures, made to order and fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed it in the well-lit, festively colored restaurant, which had some musical playing on the television, and the other half at home, room temperature. I was super excited to eat at the Veggie. Being vegetarian it seemed like the perfect place to experience some interesting foods that weren't simply salads with veggies. The pros of the visit: - fries were great - interesting selection of meal options - I had "the clucker" sandwich, which was an interesting form of "chicken" - good ranch with dill Cons of the visit: - the buffalo cauliflower tasted extremely salty. Like salt overload. Hard to eat. - they don't give out any water unless you want to buy water in a plastic container. This is surprising since this restaurant seems like a hip, earth friendly place. However they didn't have any form of reusable water containers. - and the largest con was the service. Be ready to be here AWHILE! It took us 40 minutes to get our food and the restaurant was not busy. There were only two other small groups ahead of us. Not impressed. I'm on the edge of if I would come here again. read more

Probably 12 folks came in after us, and got their food before us. The 20% tip up front at the register was a mistake. Oh well. Will not go back. Vegans unite ! When I asked them about the long wait, they said the place was packed. Hmmm... do they have another place? Only three tables were taken, and they already had their food, or was finished. Maybe I should have tipped more than 20% when I ordered? Don't think so. Training to the staff would help. Great food but me and my friend all had upset stomachs after leaving. I am not a vegetarian, one other person was not either, however we did have a vegetarian with us as well who also didn't feel good afterwards. I thought maybe it was because of the fake meat not being normal for us however once the vegetarian that was with us felt sick too I know that wasn't the case. I really wanted to like this place, but I did not. It was really depressing. I walked in the door and was quickly confronted with do you have a mask in a harsh and abrupt tone. I apparently missed the sign on the door. It seems like there was a polite way to say would you mind wearing a mask? Which I will politely comply to even though it is the last place on earth that is still requiring masks. Then you walk over to a seat and can take your mask off. Weird. Then I tried the food which I had to wait a really long time for in the depressing surroundings. I really wanted to like the fried mushrooms, but it was an unhealthy vegan meal with french fries. Came to try it out for first time and it was a limited Saturday brunch menu. To say we were impressed is putting it mildly. Every bite was amazing. We tried the southwest croissant, hash brown casserole, and biscuits with fruit compote. My husband began by thinking it was expensive but after eating he declared it worth every penny and then some. So good!! I got the Crunchwrap. It was a decent price, not bad especially for good vegan food. Staff was very nice and I got my food fast! The restaurant area itself does have a pretty bad smoke smell, but I wouldn't let that discourage you from trying it. Just plan on taking it to go! read more

I never got a chance to try The Veggie at Lowe Mill - I lived down the street for years but somehow missed them. I did try them in their Madison location. It's a tiny restaurant with a few tables, and I got the vibe that it's more popular for takeout and delivery. I got a steak bowl and it tasted great - I loved the chimichurri! Their garlic hummus was yummy too. The Beyond "steak" was really an amazing dupe for actual steak. I definitely ate too much but I was just excited to be able to go into a restaurant and just order right off the menu without worrying too much about the contents. They have a variety of soy free and gluten free options, which is lovely. I'm puzzled by the amount of people complaining that the food is unhealthy and fried...why order something fried if you're going to complain about eating fried food? They have a lot of variety on the menu. It's a vegan restaurant that has alternatives to non-vegan foods, it's not a health food store. If I want to eat super healthy I just eat at home. I visited The Veggie on accident. I was at Lowe Mill and decided to stop in. When you walk in, masks are required. Also, there's not a whole lot of seating if you plan to eat in. There is a limited menu. However, don't let that stop you. I ordered the Sticky Orange Basket. It's a fried oyster mushroom strips drizzled in orange glaze. They were out of the orange glaze, but they were still good. The entree was served with fries and bottled water is available for purchase. This was a home run! Go support! read more

I know you are a new business but there should still be some preparation for the possible rush and people wanting to give you a try. I placed my order @ 1:53 and didn't get my order until 2:40p. There were 6 orders and 2 call in before me. There was frustration in everyone's face. I observed workers with NO gloves and when I did receive my order I received not 1, Sorry for your wait! Or NO explanation whatsoever. As for my Buffalo Po' boy. Honestly, it was just ok. I tasted no peach aioli. I just seemed like some bland white sauce, the bread is what made it hard to eat. PoBoys are already messy so adding a hard roll that kinda scratches your face makes it hard to eat. I tried to put it to my mouth but it was too difficult. So I just ate the tomatoes and shrimp with a fork and my water was no longer cold by the time I got to drink it. Please do not take this as me trying to be negative, I am just trying to give some constructive criticism. I want your business to last. I asked other patrons what they had and they said the Philly and that it was really good. That is what I wanted to try but you were out for my order. I absolutely enjoy the food! I've been so many times that I was able to fill out two punch coupons. But today was a little different. It was two orders under the name Morgan and when I stated that my order was wrong, the owner was not nice on how she approached us. She was very stern and unpleasant with asking us what we ordered and insisted that we had our order. The other lady who served us was more polite in assisting us and figuring out our $50 order. Owner is very rude, never paid much attention to the reviews before , but now going through them I see many people have had bad customer service experiences with the owner. I ordered a meal for one thanksgiving meal & was emailed to pick up my order around 2:30, so I got there at that time as instructed , when I got there there wasn't many people there yet I was told I had to wait until 4:00 for my order, I tried to explain to them and show them the email I had received but they did not care. I said that I can wait but if I am expected to wait until 4:00 I want a refund, the owner then commented "give her a refund so she can get out of here" very professional Right? If you mess up, as a business it is your job to fix it, instead they throw their customers To the side & talk to them as if they aren't actual people. I stated I needed a receipt for proof of refund and the owner stated "well if you would ask you could get one" again is that how you talk to a customer? It's pretty obvious to give someone a receipt after issuing a refund. After the owner and the guy at the register kept teaming up on me I finally had enough and barely defended myself. For the sake of their business. As you can see in the negative reviews the management is quick to come back with a smart response, but that is okay at the end of the day a business is a business and with bad ownership like that, you will never flourish & it'll always catch up. So as they continue to push everyone's negative reviews under the rug and make excuses for their actions instead of righting their wrongs, they will fail.
