The last day she was going to be in the exhibit was on Memorial Day. It was sweet to see families and all different kids go through this exhibit with awe and amazement. Our lil guy is in his dinosaur phase and was in love all around. Liberty Science Center was a good space to explore. We didn't have enough time to spend here, however we will return. The space was clean, employees were respectful and kind, and there are plenty of opportunities for anyone to check out different floors of interests. The only con is paying some parts to check out rather than an overall included ticket. Plenty of space to park; Will return soon!

We came at 3:30 (5pm close) on a Saturday and expected it to be less busy. It was PACKED. A sea of strollers and kids and parents. Going up and down in the elevators was a nightmare. Besides the number of people, the exhibits themselves were pretty cool. Mostly for kids aged 4+ but they did have a toddler area named the Wobbly Room which was pretty fun. $64 for two adults, kids under 2 free. A season pass for 2 adults and up to 4 kids was $250 and seems worthwhile if you come at least a few times a year. We definitely need to come back (not on a Saturday?) and do more exploring. We totally missed the planetarium!

BLUF: Might not be worthwhile…read more The primary experience of the Hayden Planetarium is "Encounters in the Milky Way", a 20-something minute movie narrated by Pedro Pascal about how our planet fits into the solar system, how our solar system fits into our galaxy, and how our galaxy fits into the universe. "Encounters in the Milky Way" is good, but might not be worth the extra cost of admission these days, as there are any number of Netflix shows, YouTube videos, etc., that explain the same material with equally impressive visuals. Admission to the movie isn't included for Pay-As-You-Wish customers. For these customers, the total price paid jumps from whatever one chooses to pay, say $1 per person, to a minimum of regular admission plus the ticket for the movie -- at least $30 per adult. For those who decide to pay for the movie, choose a seat in the back, along the walls if possible. Those seated in lower rows will have to crank their necks to get everything into view, because the seats don't recline. It is possible to visit the supplemental exhibits that surround the planetarium (the movie theatre itself) without paying for the movie, but then that experience might feel a little incomplete.

‼IF YOU ARE NEURODIVERGENT READ THIS‼ I went with my husband…read moreon a Monday, and it was a lot of fun! We got the Lovers Tickets which was ~$145 for both of us together. This package included access to all of the shows and exhibits, along with a free go at each game which was actually really cool! Not to mention we each got a free cocktail and a gift bag with some sexy goodies to share. We really liked the history exhibit, and the art gallery. The games were pretty fun too! There IS a spinning stripper pole you can dance on in the bar, so if you wanna give it a go maybe wear shorts, because I wore a dress so I wasn't able to do a lot on it unfortunately but it was still fun! IT IS LOUD!! If you have sensory issues I recommend bringing ear plugs, I'm happy I had mine with me. The music is super loud and sometimes overlapping between rooms. There are also multiple exhibits with flashing lights. The Tunnel of Love is a "4D Orgy" that "nuts" on you - which is just some water mist that sprays on your face, feet and neck a few times. I personally did not like that part, but if you cover your lower face with your hands it blocks it. You don't get wet, it's just not my favorite sensory experience. The kissing game was interesting, this one has you and your partner grab some metal bars and you have to kiss for a minute straight to win a "coupon" that you get to use on each other later. FAIR WARNING - this game sends electricity between you as you kiss since you are both grabbing the bars, this doesn't hurt you and you don't feel it, but it makes your mouths taste like METAL. We were both so concerned that we had a health problem at first but thankfully my hubby is an electrician and connected the dots really quickly. Overall a super fun day! The Monday crowd was super chill and minimal. The only thing I think that would make it better is if the staff could do a better job explaining what sensory experience you might have during each game, because it was overwhelming and sometimes uncomfortable. But I think if you come prepared with ear plugs, hand sanitizer (they do have pumps but I bring my own), and shorts under your skirt/dress, then it will be a fantastic time! Be very open minded and enjoy!

People I could never get to step a toe in a museum now beg me to come with them to see some trendy exhibit they heard about. Marketing has improved immensely. They've expanded their reach beyond geeks and schoolchildren to a wide variety of people, and that's good. It keeps the museum alive. It's just no longer one of my favorite places personally. What I miss the most are the old First Saturdays that no one knew about. I'd look forward to them all month like a child looks forward to Christmas. It felt like Brooklyn's best kept secret. Now you have to preregister to get sardined. I'm not much of a noisy crowd person, so I end up leaving early the rare occasion I attempt to go. I do enjoy the salsa parties. Those are fun. Staff can be rude as all else. I've never personally had an issue, but I've seen some uncalled for behavior towards other patrons, especially if they give touristy vibes. The littlest thing can set someone off. It's completely uncalled for.

There were definitely parts of the museum that were not appropriate for the four-year-old. It's not just the Muppets, people! The Muppets are great, but then there's The Exorcist and a whole lot of other things happening in there. So, depending on the ages in your group, you may need to do a little navigating. But we had a great time. The Muppets were a hit, and we checked out Felix the Cat--which thoroughly confused the four-year-old but was mostly age-appropriate. The arcade was another winner. We spent a whopping $5.50 and had a great time playing the games. Sometimes it really doesn't take much! We also enjoyed the MoMI Lab. There was a computerized dog that completely captured the four-year-old's attention while simultaneously terrifying her. She couldn't quite decide whether she wanted to get closer or get away from it, but all was well. And the café was a hit too! We ended our afternoon with a grilled cheese, two donuts, and a latte. Everybody got something they wanted, which is about as successful as an outing with a preschooler and a teenager can get. Overall, it was a fun afternoon with plenty for both ages to explore. Just do a little homework beforehand if you're bringing younger kids so you know which exhibits to wander into--and which ones to wander right past.

When we first got there we went up stairs and downstairs and too a room where there was a few planes and one you could go up into the cockpit. Then we went upstairs to some other small models and the history of Pan Am. We thought that was it but we realized we started the museum backwards and ended up into a room full of all sorts of aircraft's from military, to USPS, commercial jets and more. Then there was another area dedicated to Outer space and there was even some arcade machines scattered throughout the museum that had to do with aircraft. Probably spent an hour and a half there. Easily could have spent a whole day there if you watch some movies they have and read all the plaques etc. for each thing. We ended up getting free passes from the library which was definitely a plus but if you're looking for something to do and keep kids occupied for a while this is definitely a place to go. They also have a cafeteria there as well. We did not eat there so can't speak on the food but it looked fairly big and everything was very clean.

My oldest son is autistic, and finding spaces that are truly set up to be inclusive can be hard to come by, but LICM does it right. During Friendly Hours, they lower the lighting and sound throughout the museum, and cap attendance so it never feels overwhelming or overstimulating. We had the full two hours to explore at our own pace without the usual crowds. The kids loved everything, the bubble room, the outdoor water play area, the garden, the vintage rotary phones where they called each other on "landlines," a pretend fish market, the big climbing obstacle course, and a mini news studio where they got to play weatherman/reporter on camera with the script right in front of them. The exhibits also rotate seasonally, so there's always something new to see. It wasn't crowded at all, we got to relax and let the kids lead the way, and even grandma was able to join us. My kids are already asking when we can go back. If you have a neurodivergent child or just want a calmer, less chaotic museum visit, I highly recommend checking out their Friendly Hours, they're typically offered once a month and tickets go live the 1st of each month. Pre-registration is required since space is limited. We'll definitely be back!
