Outrageous, was going to go in from Primrose Hill (which is 10 mins from the club), there was 2ml left in a cocktail can from MnS. The place refused to refund the whole group (8 people) on 08/09/2023 and the team even refused to identify their names. Definitely do not recommend. I've been here once in my life, for a black/death metal gig with a band from Norway called Taake. What can I say, it was actually fun! - until the guy in front of me started doing the "windmill" and slapped my face with his hair. Eeeeeek!!! but he apologised, so that was nice. The Underworld is a cool venue if you're into loud metal and alternative music + Its very well known for the famous bands who played there (Placebo, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Suede, The Cranberries and The Von Blondes). It has a capacity up to 500 and a 3am licence. tee-hee. Usually, after gigs, it turns into a club - party, party! The staff is very friendly and even though people seem gloomy, they are really nice. So, if you're interested in a gig there, contact them. The staff takes really good care of the bands, providing them with everything they need. Apart from a minor crime wave that led to the loss of my and about 5 other smart phones (do NOT take valuables here, staff said theft is rife!), Underworld was a great night. In fact the most annoying thing about the loss of the phone was that I had to stop dancing for 20 mins and attempt to find it. Realising it was gone forever, I just got right back onto the floor. When we arrived just before midnight it was totally dead with only 2 other guys jiving away but we got stuck right in to some 80s tunes. Three hours later, the large crowd that had arrived in the meantime was beginning to thin out but we were still enjoying a range of cheesy classics from the past three decades - totally unpretentious good clean fun and I think it was probably a little quieter that usually so no annoying jostling either! I've been to this venue many times and have always had a blast. It's one of those places you can go which is really chilled out and super fun. I've only been on their Friday/Saturday club nights so I'm not sure how it is as a live venue. For a night out though, it's perfect. The crowd here is always very friendly and easy going. Being able to safely mosh with total strangers is always a sign of a good group of people. Music varies depending on the night but it's mostly rock with some pop and metal mixed in as well. It should appeal to most of your friends. Drink prices are slightly high for beer, but they also have a cheap drink list which I've yet to explore. So come out on a Friday or Saturday, bring your dancing shoes and be ready for a sticky floor rock night! read more

Needless to say, I was dragged here a few months back, and had a pretty good and grimy time. Come prepared with a nose peg, as this place sure is stinky winky but if your bladdered enough before it won't be too intrusive to the nostrils. The Underworld, has a really impressive CV of Lineups... Some of my favourite bands have played here.. just to mention a few The Cranberries, Foo fighters, Sheryl Crow, and The Darkness. Despite prices not drinking Snakebite in The UnderWorld and waking up with a joker-esque red smile is like visiting a Greek island and not drinking Retsina or going Dublin and not having a pint of Guiness: it's the rules. Good sound system. Staff a bit miserable. Quirky, cool, two tiered layout. Burly bouncers. Mosh pit. A song for everyone. Good for dancing like a loon. read more

The best place to dance to a selection of pop, rock and Indie tunes! Beware it is underground and has the tendency to smell like stale alcohol but once you get into it the smell will disappear! When you first walk downstairs and into the club you are confronted with a seated bar area where people hand, chat and drink all night. As you move through the labyrinth you will find another huge room where you walk down a few stairs to the dance floor - which is massive. Or conversely you can play Mr Gatsby and watch people, but just for a little while! You will find in a cubby hole like box another bar, much smaller than the front bar but serves its purpose. Be sure to have cash on you as they don't take card. Party starts from 11pm onwards - always a Queue from 11:45 onwards. Enjoy! Great space to take in a show with a good sized stage. Better get there early and position yourself---you don't want to get stuck behind a pole with obstructed view. Don't know if they allow patrons to smoke, but a number of band members gladly did. There are 2 bars down there though they will most likely not both be open. Staff takes good care of bands, providing them with load in and break down assisance and ply them with sandwiches, sodas, fruit, beer, and Dairy Milk. They do close rather early. Underworld isn't handicapped accessible----stairs only. They'll gladly carry you down....that's actually what I heard a patron was told. read more

I've been coming to gigs here for the last 10 years or so (at least) and I love this venue. There are a few bad viewing area's due to the support pillars but that's never put me off. There's always a good vibe here, like minded people who just want to enjoy the music. The stage room can get very hot so you can easily go to the bar room and still listen to the bands and enjoy a drink from the well stocked bar. You do have to go downstairs to get into the venue and I'm not sure if there is another way for disabled people (maybe someone can enlighten me). The staff are always friendly enough and the prices are quite generic for London. The venue is right across from the tube station entrance and there are lots of places to grab something to eat/drink before and after a gig. read more

I've seen some awesome alternative rock bands at The Underworld. It seems like a grotty rock venue but scratch the surface and you'll see that their calendar of events is slightly more diverse than you first think. I recently went to see Earth play The Underworld. This was a sold out show, with the band coming all the way form America, they attract a really muso / alternative music crowd. I really enjoyed my night there but my biggest gripe is that the venues layout just isn't that great. If there's a busy show (and I've seen quite a few), it's nigh on impossible to find your friends if you get lost and the pillars in the middle of the room and the placement of the pillars in the middle of the venue mean you can't always see the band (plus it gets really hot in there really quickly). Every time I visit, I always feel like it could be a little better but beggars can't be choosers and if there's a great band playing, people are going to go nevertheless. Not Camden's best but worth a visit. read more

Me and my girlfriend were wondering if this was an open business or not when we came there in the middle of the day, but it wasn't until we came later at night did we realise this place rolls! I mean rocks... but there were so many people getting stoned outside, it put the word in my head... Ignoring the pub smell once you get in, you're in a position to be getting down to some mainstream music - the pop classics were dominant when I went and I wasn't particularly happy, but other people might be... ah well. The drinks were reasonably expensive but it's a club, just get drunk before hand like a normal person! The schedule for this place is extensive so their is a little bit for everyone if you'd just check it out - DJ's playing sets and rock bands rocking out. Good stuff. read more

Right in the centre of Camden, and funnily - located beneath the World's End pub - the Underworld is a live music institution. It's a dingy underground set of rooms: an outer one with a central bar, and an inner one with a sunken floor where bands play. There's almost nowhere to sit, and no ambience whatsoever. Forget food or high-end imported lagers. No one comes here to sit and drink, though: this venue is all about getting in bands just about every night. Just about every metal, thrash, or garage band that's just breaking out will come though here. It only holds a couple of hundred people, and you can get right up to the stage. They also get rock acts that are mid-size elsewhere but not huge names here. I've seen great Canadian acts like Sloan and 54-40 play here, as well as Nashville Pussy, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Hot Snakes, and vileevils. read more

Really good venue in the centre of Camden...struggled to find it first time I went, even though you can see it as you walk out of Camden Tube. Its downstairs under the World's End, several rooms, bar area, and balcony area leading into the pit with the band behind that. Pretty dark and grungey but thats what makes it soo good. Seen very good bands there like Enter Shikari and also bands that I've never heard of or remember now! If you like a venue to have very good air conditioning, don't go to the Underworld, the atmosphere can get very hot and sweaty. If you love the moshpit it is amazing! read more

Very awesome small venue, the pillar in the middle is annoying since it restricts the view. Overall it has a good atmosphere being small and dark and I got in for free. It is quite close to the tube station. There is a bar area and disgusting toilets as you would expect. The bar staff is very friendly but it is quite expensive. read more

A mostly decent venue in Camden, across the street from the Camden Tube stop and under the World's End pub. When entering, the first room has the square bar area with some bits of seating. The next section has the cloakroom and toilets, with part of the floor slanting down towards the stage area. The next section is a few steps down to the dancefloor/main floor and stage. If you get there early for a gig, the prime viewing is along the railings but watch out for the post in the middle of the floor which can cause sightline problems. I have seen various gigs there for the past 10 years and it's a good place to see up and coming bands or foreign bands who don't have a huge following in the UK. Depending on the promoter, the sound and lights can be good. The only downsides are: barstaff can be good or bad and drinks can be pricier than the local pubs; the pole in the middle of the floor; being shooed out after a weekend night gig to make room for the club night crowd, and, the worst thing of all are the metal seats in the toilets (especially bad in the colder months) though the toilets are much better than at the Barfly. Even with the downsides, it's a fun place to see bands, and you may spot celebrities in the crowd too. read more

A great place for gigs. Never been to the club, but went to a fabulous gig there last night. Classic dark, dingy feel but the way the stage is set up, it makes the gig feel quite intimate and close. Best place for viewing is up on the rails, so get there first if you want a prime spot, as these are the first to go - you're not as close to the stage, but you get a 100% clear view than peering through people's heads down on the 'dance' floor. Nothing special inside - all very tatty as is typical in Camden, but what do you expect for £10 gigs (prolly much less for local bands)? Bar is basic, pricey but not outrageous. Coat check costs £1.50/item by the way, but worth it not to be sweating & weighed down by your crap all evening. Got quite hot inside towards the end, but what do you expect for a basement? read more

I'm sure this venue has one of the highest alternative band counts in the U.K. It has a slightly odd shape, the bar in a separate area from the stage, which means fewer people can see, which is bad. There are pillars supporting the roof on the floor in front of the stage. This too is bad. I guess it''s fortunate that stadium sell out bands hardly ever visit. Fortunately, there is a raised section around the stage room that compensates for other view blockage. Anyway, aside from viewing problems, this venue has one of the liveliest atmospheres I've felt at a gig. The audience can get close enough to touch the bands feet, and in some cases, the band can touch the audience, making for a highly personal performance. Some of my favorite gigs have been here, including Finntroll, who were spectacular. read more

I love The Underworld. I have been to some truly amazing gigs at this venue, and that at very reasonable prices! Truly, this place is a national treasure (though many people may not know it). I think this is one of the best places to go and see new bands - as well as more established ones, of course. The running The Underworld always seem to bee good at spotting new talent. Better still is that ticket prices are really quite resonable, as I believe I have stated above. I just wish I could say the same about their drinks. read more

Firstly If you don t like being in a crowded place with the floor all covered by the alcohol you won t have fun there. once upon a time, i was a visitor to this dark city. at the end of a blind date, i found a flier for some night in camden and somehow found myself through the maze of night busses to The Underworld, dragging my date with me. it was a friday night and the club was 'Silver,' and i was in heaven. (my date, put up with it, to his credit). now years later i live here and occationally frequent the venu for good night out of dancing. teh space itself is awesome. with a sunk area dedicated to dancing, two bars, and an area away from the dancefloor that you can actually sit and talk (you mean, actually get to know the person you've been eyeing all night? gasp!), it makes me wish the layout was like this for more clubs. the crowd is alright too. not overally pretentious, generally in the mid-late 20s, not too pushy. my friends and i currently go sometimes for Pop It! - the friday night pop night. its a bit rediculous and a whole lot of awesome. read more

I always had a great time seeing shows here. For the most part the sight lines to the stage are pretty good, and the sound is always great here. Even when the bar was crowded I don't remember ever having to wait too long for a drink. I miss this place quite a bit. read more

We always have quite a few shows happening here at the Underworld, mostly because it's such a brilliant venue for up and coming bands. Under the pub, it's deceivingly spacious but still has a great intimate vibe about the place. Cleverly hidden beneath Camden's World's End Pub, this smallish, subterranean venue host a variety of alternative, indie, punk, goth and rock shows, as well as counterculture dance clubs. I was fortunate enough to be visiting on a night when my friend's band (Death Boy) was playing. The sound was good and the bar was close enough to the show/stage, but far enough so that you can communicate with friends during the opening acts. read more

This is a good place to see bands in so it merited a * review. The problem is the people at the bar are not friendly and bouncers pretty heavy. What's worse is how the management treat some of the bands that play there. I witnessed one band who had driven over 100 miles trying to get the £50 they were due to be paid for an hour after one event - the guy in charge was mucking these poor people about something rotten and the musicans told me afterwards they would never play there again. But the sound here is Ok and you can normally see the stage so it's Ok as a music fan as long as you don't have to talk to anyone who works there! read more

Basically if you're the early type and you can't wait till 9pm to have a good time then you're reading the right review. Sundays this club opens around 6pm and you can buy the ticket in advance or from the pub next door before hand. With live bands playing and a space to mosh (purposefully knocking/pushing into each other, can go as far as swinging) as well as dance or you could mix them up. As you walk into underworld they serve alcohol which is very expensive on the other side of the bar they put down water for those who've been working up quite a sweat which everyone goes for so if your lucky they'll serve more if not it's on a first come first serve basis. I've not been to their night ones but that'll be my next step watch this space. read more

Cool little club, usually with a bit of a cue outside to get in. Have been here before with friends and been very drunk and I remember having a great night. This place won't be for everyone as it is quite dingy and underground but for the type of music I like its great. Basically, this place caters for a particular crowd and scene. If you're not under 22 and don't like the Killers, then steer clear. However, if you're a young rocky, camdeny, studenty type, I'm sure this is your haven. This place seems to have a steady base of regulars that have been coming here since they were just out of nappies and I'm sure haved lived through many of their life's important moments in the dark corners of the club. Speaking of which, ladies, be prepared for many a drunken 18-year-old's wandering hands on the dancefloor. Also, bears mentioning, last time I was there, my friend took a nasty (undrunken) fall on the slippery floor and ended up in A&E getting several stitches in her chin. She, being a big fan of the venue, nevertheless bounds back every weekend unfazed. read more

If you're in Camden you can't leave without visiting a music venue. A very nice atmosphere whether you are seeing a concert or are just visiting on a club night. The prices are always very good compared to most London venues. The price of the bar is standard. read more

Bit pricey, but great place to be, fab music

Possibly the venue within most walkable distance of Camden tube station, The Underworld is a pretty good venue for catching intimate gigs in. Everytime I've been there the sound has been above average, and that's with the quirky two tier layout. For those who want to get sweaty and bouncy take the setps down into the moshpit, and for those who want to keep their drinks in their plastic cups hang around the second smaller bar and watch the bands in saftey. It has to be said that your not going to have the best night if you end up stuck around the one post on the moshpit floor. It's slightly less dinghy then the Barfly, which means you don't have to fear getting mugged by the local cockroaches when you take a leak, but you are going to have to deal with club type prices when it comes to drink. Oh, and don't expect a smile from the bar staff, it seems to be staffed by the harrassed student types. It also doubles up as an alternative club when the bands aren't playing. It also tends to lean more towards the metal/heavy rock type of acts. read more
