Stayed one night at the Twilight Lodge on a ski trip so that I could ski Hunter Mountain the next day. Good basic accommodations, but not much more. The lodge is the second floor of a small building with a Antique Store and the breakfast room. The room I had was a small bedroom which had a shared bathroom in the hall. The room was clean and comfortable with a small flat screen TV with cable. There is no closet and very limited storage so a multi day stay would be challenging. The bathroom was utilitarian and could have been warmer. The only real issue I had was that the heat for the room was either on and very warm or off and too cold. The staff was nice and the breakfast was fine if nothing special, but there was bagels, cereal, OJ and coffee. read more

THIS PLACE IS AN ABSOLUTE SCAM!!! I booked The Twilight Lodge on Wednesday 9/6/23 via their website, they charged my credit card on Thursday 9/7/23. I booked it for one night, check in on Saturday 9/23/23 and check out on Sunday 9/24/23. I started to call the lodge a week after I booked as I had a few questions regarding the shared space and fridge. There was no answer no matter what time of the day or night I called. I continued calling them everyday from Monday 9/13/23 until morning of my check in Saturday (9/23/23)- still no answer. I started panicking and freaking out as we were already on our way driving there from a far place. I googled the lodge to find any other contact information other than what was provided on the website and on yelp. I came across a cellphone number and a lady picked up. She said the LODGE IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED AS OF 9/5/23 and there is no way any bookings were made. I provided her the booking confirmation email which was sent to me the same day I booked on 9/6/23 and I provided my cc statement which shows the Lodge charged cc the following day on 9/7/23. She kept saying how that's impossible however I have all the proof! (Emails and cc Statements). The email was sent to me through her website and her email address. And the charge was made the next day after booking so someone did it. She said she will give me my money back and never did instead she completely ignored my texts since now. She is an absolute FRAUD. They still have their website up and all these travel sites are still showing this lodge. The Twilight Lodge is closed as of 9/5/23 and they are still allowing you to book with them and stealing your money. They scamming people! FRAUD! It's almost 3 months now and The Twilight Lodge still hasn't refunded my money. My cc company keeps saying to contact the merchant but in this case the merchant is unresponsive!!!! Sad to see the same issue happened to someone else as per the review. This place need to be investigated. read more

DO NOT BOOK!!! We showed up for our reservation and the doors were locked, no one was present to check us in, and multiple phone calls and emails went unanswered. We had to find other accommodations at the last minute, which was a large unforeseen cost. On top of all this, I received an automated email days later that our booking was cancelled and they would be charging us a $75 fee. I don't know what's going on here but it appears they are closed and stealing people's deposits as well as charging cancellation fees for unfulfilled bookings. If this lodging is no longer available, they need to take down their website and stop scamming people. read more

This was a last minute booking for my snowboard weekend. We decided to pick this place through expedia because it was very close to Hunter Mountain. This was my first Bed and Breakfast experience so I do not have anything to compare it to unless it was something from a movie. We arrived after it already was dark out so it was very difficult to find the place, the was very minimal lighting on the building. We had to proceed to the second building to find the hosts, once we found them they were very sweet. they showed us to our room . Room was very basic bed, flat screen, had free wifi, and they also had a portable heater which was great because we were able to dry off our gloves, hats etc around it. The bathroom was a shared bathroom with the other four bedrooms which for us was not terrible because we arrived there first and took advantage of showering. but i assume if everyone arrived at the same time that would become an issue. they had hallway closet space to hang jackets, put boots in or hang ski pants. the breakfast they served i thought was pretty good. croissants, bread, cereal, fresh fruit cut up, cream cheese dips, caramel, English muffins, coffee, tea, orange juice. they had one toaster so we had to alternate using. but once a toaster is warm it heats up things quick. the room was fixed nice, had a basket full of clean towels, some washing accessories, and two Chocolates on the bed. Some negatives... They did not have any extra outlets to charge our devices. we had to unplug the heater or other lamp, which was connected in in our room to the hallway lamp. the shower was tiny but that didn't bother me, it was just annoying that you could hear the shower drip drip drip, i mean we need to save water,no? as we were getting ready to get some rest, i guess the old walls are thin and you are able to hear the other patrons come up the steps. but i think some people are just noisier than others. in order to go to the "break fast part" of the bed and breakfast you had to go downstairs outside to the next building front. the floor was wet but that's because there was snow outside so i definitely suggest putting a rug there, purposely so no one slips. and the room was very cold! so they need to get a heating system going in there. Since this was my first bed and breakfast experience for a night stay it honestly was not terrible. But the hosts were very genuine when they said it hasn't been this busy for them since they opened it. so they are newbies. I hope that if they do read the advice they take it as a positive to see where they can improve. this place has a lot of potential! I really hope they are able to spruce it up and I wish them luck. But at this time I will only rate them a 2. Everyone starts somewhere. read more

..."Barbara does NOT like computers"......and might not even see this review! The innkeepers seem to have a wee bit of a problem with online booking. Sometimes they double book the rooms on accident. Due to the nature of small business, It's generally good practice to call and confirm your reservation when you book online with bed and breakfasts -- Twilight lodge is no exception. Booking confusion aside, the innkeepers were extremely kind people who genuinely wanted you to stay with them. They took an interest in all their guests and were ready and willing to assist when necessary. For example, I saw one parking the car of a guest because the lot was pure ice and relatively hard to maneuver in. At another point, when I was tired, wet and grumpy lugging my ski equipment upstairs the staff was quick to help bring up my skis and bags without me asking. Location is key here. The lodge is in close proximity to two mountains (Hunter being my choice), near the town (10 mins) and local hiking spots. You MAY find it difficult to find with GPS as It's situated to the side of the road right after you get up the long, windy mountain pass. Look for the first blue building on your left. For breakfast you'll be greeted with a full spread; a chalice of fruit, cereal, OJ, coffee, tea and whatever breakfast food is being prepped behind closed doors that morning. They served us scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns. Just a note, make sure you give a heads up regarding what time you'll be coming down. Rooms are on the smaller side, but there are closets to hang your jackets in the hall. The lodge is quite clean and has charm, however it needs some serious love. Love that only a carpenter and contractor can give it. The hallways are lined with wood panels that remind me of my Grandmothers house. The rooms beg for minor touch-ups, while the decor is a blend of eastern European kitsch and obscurity. The paintings in one of our friend's rooms just so happened to be the "eyes-following-you" varietal of creepy. Think sad clowns and vintage Barbara Streisand lovingly holding her offspring. We joked that there was a "bonus level" creepy face hidden in the mirror's frame as well. It's unique. If you're booking for 4 (or more) get the rooms that share a kitchenette. It's basic -- but It will give you a place to commiserate and pack a cold lunch for the following day. Be warned, they don't provide plates, silverware or even dish soap (!) so you'll have to make due with what you bring or scrounge from the neighborhood stores. Important notes: - ALL of the rooms share bathrooms. - The walls have not benefited from modern insulation technology. You will hear the road, you will hear other patrons and god forbid you get the room directly next to the bathroom you'll hear ALL sorts of unmentionable things. Ugh. - Did I mention you should call and confirm your reservation? Yeah. Do that. - Prices were reasonable. read more

Barbara and the staff were very nice and hospitable for our stay of two adults and one young baby. They helped install a baby crib, moved us to a slightly larger room, and made breakfast (eggs and bacon). The place is basically a converted older house so it is important to be realistic and not expect a stay like the Waldorf Astoria, especially given the affordable price range. The beds were nice and clean. There is around one shared bathroom for each three rooms, which was fine for us as the place was not crowded and the guests were spread out. read more

The room was small and neat and CLEAN. Thirsty Large towels and nice products for showering. Old, but charming, and well kept. The staff nwas helpful whereas the GPS ..... Not so much! The coffee was EXCEPTIONAL and I am an unapologetic Coffee snob. The scrambled eggs, bacon and variety of breads and rolls were more than we could eat. Very Reasonable Prices too. Workers seemed nice enough. Location is wonderful. Smells of must and mold. Old and seems to be poorly maintained. The woman at the front desk didn't know how to use the wifi, and service in that area was awful, so we were totally without internet. There's one bathroom that everyone shares and the walls are very, very thin. You can hear everything. Overall, this place is way overpriced for what it is. It's more a hostel than an inn. If it were 50 bucks I'd give it a higher score. read more

I don't even know where to begin. We arrived late at 9pm and saw a note on the window to go to back of the house where we were greated by this lady who showed us our room. She didn't know which room was our so she randomly picked a room. We were right to the bathroom. DO NOT STAY NEXT TO THE BATHROOM. Walls are super thin so you can hear literally everything they are doing in the bathroom. Rooms are so small and need serious renovation!!! Breakfast downstairs was okay. They had coffee, teas and cereals. They made us scrambled egg with Bacon(we don't eat Bacon) so we just had scrambled eggs. Fruits were not fresh. One good thing is it's 10 min to Hunter Mountain which we spend most of the day there. read more

No heat. Literally no internal source of heating other than a discount small space heater. Couple that with reeking, pervasive black mold and the apparent total lack of grounds care. I think that's enough said for $1 a night never mind the $100 a night the owners currently ask. read more

The owners are very nice but the place is a total dump. Pretty gross. The carpet was stained and UNVACUUMED littered with pine needles -- the walls have paint chipping, the place smells super musty, and the bathroom is pretty gross (broken tile that move under your fear, chipped paint and stains every where, everything seemed to be slightly moldy and rotting). The place is OLD and in need of serious renovation. The stars are only for the owners who are sweet and hospitable but need to update their establishment. Wouldn't stay here again sadly. read more

The physical plant of the Twilight Lodge is not nearly as lovely as the gauzy photos on the website suggest, and the structure -- as others have noted -- could use some work/upgrading. On the plus side, the breakfast was good and the owner, Barbara, is an interesting, kind and gregarious person with a compelling life story. I am not an antiques person, but I'd wager her eclectic collection (reflecting her many travels and her Hungarian heritage) would interest someone who was. The rates were affordable, the area is wonderful. We visited in early April, amid a cold snap, and were unprepared for the weather, which put a crimp on our hiking plans. Also, the Lodge is on the edge of town and our last two nights were going to be without a car, which would have effectively marooned us at the Lodge (without plates or silverware, as one other reviewer noted!). So we left early, and Barbara was extremely gracious not to charge us for the nights we booked but didn't use. It was a brief but memorable stay, and Barbara could not have been kinder. As long as you keep your expectations low, re: the rooms themselves, the Twilight Lodge could be an interesting and rewarding place for you to stay. read more
