My Turkish husband likes food from his homeland and when we had a craving for some recently, I was surprised to see The Turk pop up nearby! Usually we have to drive to Waterbury or Mt Kisco but we saw The Turk in Pawling and decided to head over. The restaurant is located in the central business area of Pawling, not too far from the train station. Service was friendly and we were seated immediately. I started with a very nice old fashioned from the bar. We got some pita and oil with mustard to munch on before our lamachun and mixed grill platter arrived. I liked the lamachun but at $30, I think it's way overpriced. The mixed grill was good and we were so stuffed when we finished, we couldn't even think of having dessert, which is a rarity. Decided randomly to stop into The Turk for lunch on a Saturday. Upon sitting down we received a complimentary olive oil/mustard dipping sauce and fresh made pita bread. The dipping oil had a different but delicious flavor and the pita bread kept coming out hot. We ordered the falafel dinner and the chicken saute. The chicken saute was very flavorful. The red sauce had robust flavor and wasn't acidic at all. The rice was delicious and went with the chicken saute nicely. The falafel dinner was a great size, also had great flavor and we were both full when we left. For dessert we had chocolate pudding which was very good. The restaurant is clean. Service is attentive and kind. The owner came to our table and talked with us for a bit. He's very friendly and customer experience oriented. At first glance you may think this restaurant is pricey but don't let the price deter you because the quality and flavors at The Turk are unmatched. read more

Great experience visiting this location. Owner was very friendly and even played a traditional instrument for us while there and he sang to our baby who was a little fussy. The food was good. There were a few unique dishes you don't normally see. The space was beautiful. Great spot for a date night or an evening with friends. The portion size is good for the price. read more

Chose for it being centrally located to our family and positive feedback from others for its authentic cuisine, it turns out that we made a great decision for this one year old Greek restaurant on the main street in Pawling, New York. From the manager's selection of a three sauce dip served with a pile of warm triangular cut pita bread followed by my choice of marinated miniature lamb kabobs which I needed to 'doggy bag', etc. All of the selections by my family were enjoyed, which I cannot spell or pronounce, plus, unless I forget to say, our table received a solo mandarin performance by The Turk owner. Yes, we will return and, yes, I have recommended it to others. read more

My husband and I just had an amazing meal. The owner played his guitar type instrument and was incredibly engaging. Food was outstanding. Pita with oil/ mustard dip was superb. Outpost in upstate Pawling of a Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant in Mt. Kisco that's been around for several years. We stopped for dinner on our way from NYC to Western Mass. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is rusty, cozy, and inviting. The owner makes everyone feel at home. I had the moussaka which is not made in the Greek style but is more of a stew with chunks of eggplant, potato, and ground lamb. Lots of flavor. We also had the lamb shishkebab and chicken shwarma, both very good. We didn't order starters (we didn't have too much time) so he brought around a little plate of hummus. The secret surprise is the hot sauce -- quite spicy but also really flavorful. This place deserves to be better known. We were there a little on the early side but it was totally empty on a Friday night. read more

We'd been meaning to try The Turk since they opened, and so glad we did. Everything we had was phenomenal. The pita was a perfect combo of chewy and crisp, the hummus was creamy, the fish was soft and flaky. Couldn't have asked for better. The dishes are simple, but be sure to ask for and indulge in their special spicy sauce on the side, and of course the tzatziki. Every item had a delicious sauce included. Some other reviews are saying it didn't have enough flavor, but you have to use the sauces. That's how this kind of food works best. The Turkish coffee was also delicious, both smooth and creamy, yet robust and strong . Our service was attentive, and the ambience was lovely. Give it a try! read more

I ordered the special of Chicken Shish (2) takeout for $15.99 and wow!! It was moist, seasoned, marinated chicken kabob cut into pieces, generous servings of white rice, flavorful bulgar, a side salad and tasty baked pita bread strips with tahini sauce. It was such a surprise to get so much deliciousness and flavor. We bought the Lentil soup but it was so much food, it will be next days lunch. Very tasty and excellent experience. The food and service were excellent. I got the Sultan's delight which is made with lamb and eggplant with a tomato sauce and vegetables. Others in my party got lamb kebabs and falafel. All were great. We were served an appetizer of fresh pita and several different dips. The Turkish coffee martini was also delicious. The owner played the mandolin. read more

Came upon this gem on the main drag in Pawling and had a delicious lunch... met the amiable owner and we were charmed! Enjoyed chicken shish kebab, two types of rice, a small salad, some eggplant salad with pita, and complementary warm pita with a delicious olive oil/mustard/spice combo for dipping. My wife & I took my dad & aunt to The Turk for dinner. Our experience was amazing. The food & service was excellent. Starting with the complimentary flat bread and hummus. The authentic Turkish wine was exceptional! Our entrees were served timely and absolutely delicious. The owner came out to welcome us. He even took one of the Turkish long neck saz (guitar) that was displayed on the back wall and played a couple songs for us. The Falafel, Musakka & Lamb were amazing. We are residents of Pawling who also live in Türkiye 9 months a year. We were pleased to find a newly opened Turkish restaurant right in Pawling. Five star rating all around. If you're near Pawling, be sure to try it out. You won't be disappointed. A welcome diversity to the area. The beet spread and babaganoush were excellent starts. The chicken mixed grill is a way to try everything and the lamb hummus was stellar! Really excellent lamb. Do NOT forget to order künüfe for dessert. I had an excellent meal: Lamb Hummus enjoyed with a Turkish beer called Effes. The lamb was soft and very delicious; the hummus and the rice were equally tasteful and went quite well with the meal. I believe this was the best lamb I have had at a restaurant. I found the service to be excellent, albeit I ate early and the restaurant was not crowded. The Turk is a post-pandemic restaurant opening, having filled an empty space, and is worth visiting. I was told that ownership has another restaurant in Mount Kisco, NY. read more

Waayyyyy overpriced for what it is. The menu items sound very decadent but are not at all as described. "Succulent lamb shoulder" in reality is just cubed stew lamb. Charging $30.00 for simple ground meat on pita bread (basically more akin to pizza ). Not worth it at all. Also, the server brought out the wrong drink and entree (he told me a dish was made with beef but it was actually lamb which I don't eat; we ordered Rose and instead beer came out). The ambience was also off because it was so cold inside we both had to wear our jackets the whole time. Would not recommend and will not be back. read more

Absolutely awful. Babaganoush tasted canned, no flavor, we added salt and it was still really bad. The bread was consistent with supermarket pita. The "Turkish ravioli" should be eliminated from the menu, no one should be served this. The pasta was thick, overcooked and slimy, the filling was pea sized bits of ground meat which was completely flavorless, the menu said it was lamb. The "sauce" this was served in was water. I will say that the decor is really nice, they have a nice vibe going on. Too bad the food was unacceptable. read more

We went to The Turk for lunch in May. The food ranged from very good to excellent, but the service was a disappointment. We were three couples and when the waitress came to take our order, we asked if we could get separate checks for each couple. She said that would be okay and that she would "separate it at the end". That should have been a warning. When we had questions about some of the dishes she had to go to the kitchen and ask, then she'd disappear for a while. At one point she remarked that this was her first week there. That's understandable, but when you start waiting tables at a restaurant, you should make an effort to familiarize yourself with the menu as quickly as you can, and she really seemed unfamiliar. After we were done, she came back to the table with everything on one one check and asked us to go over it and mark up how we wanted it separated, saying "I don't know who had what". Well, that's basically her responsibility. Anyway, we marked it up, she went away and brought back three separate checks that were incorrect, so we had to tell her again. Finally she brought us accurate checks. This whole process kept us there about twenty minutes after we had finished lunch. I hope this young lady either learns how to do her job or moves on to something else. read more
