I wouldn't normally recommend for my guests to stay on Gardiner Street, mainly because I don't live very close to it, but for other reasons including negative stereotypes of the area. However, this townhouse has a lot of great and unique features that you wouldn't normally find elsewhere. Unique Features 1. Private Car Park (not something easy to come by in city centre) 2. Private tours 3. Possibility for airport transfers (unless you're staying at the airport you don't normally get this option in Dublin) The rooms are all clean and private en-suite, though they are a bit small, but that can be dealt with.

When I first schlepped into Dublin, grubby and jet lagged, my spirits were recharged by a wonderful week of recuperation at The Townhouse. It's centrally located, surprisingly quiet, homey, grand and slightly shabby too. The rooms are small but the breakfasts are enormous enough to keep you going all day. There's free wifi, a big upstairs lounge with powerpoints for charging your laptop, and some smaller nooks and crannies on the ground floor. The staff are helpful, especially Helen, who was always very keen to help me find a nice area to live in. Recommended.

Words cannot describe how AMAZING the stay was…read more I live in Dublin, but I needed a place for my Grandad to stay while visiting me. I've used other B+Bs before, but they were all booked. I then found this place online and decided to give it a go. I wish I found this place sooner. From the get--go, I knew we found a special place. When checking in, my Grandad asked the Owner what time breakfast was.. She then asked him, "What time do YOU want breakfast?!". Wow-that level of personalisation stuck out to me immediately. My Grandad had the most comfortable, warm and enjoyable stay. His room was super clean and very comfy. He had his own bathroom, and the place was kitted out with a television, hairdryer and toiletries. My Grandad said his breakfasts were so yummy. He had options of full english, cereals and fruit. The whole B+B has this traditional, homely vibe. Family photos of days gone by are on the walls, and there are book shelves where guests can help themselves. The B+B is situated a few mins walk from McDonalds, Pizza Places and Tesco (a grocery store). So if you need anything, you don't need to go far. The City Centre is right by, which is ideal because I don't drive. Bernie, the Owner was so warm, helpful and amazing. It was raining during my Grandad's stay which limited what we could do and see. I don't drive, and ON HER OWN, she offered to drive us through Phoenix Park, so we can experience it. She advised that it's better to see the place in a car-She was right! And she even drove us past the Guinness Storehouse, giving us the history of the area and insider knowledge that you wouldn't find on wikipedia. Mind you, she did this out of the goodness of her heart. Again, where else will you see this level of personalization? Really going above and beyond! Bernie is also super knowledgeable and gives the best advice on which attractions to see, which are worth paying for, and not just trying to extort you for money-and even the history behind certain buildings/monuments. It's no surprise that my Grandad asked her for her business card, so that he can recommend her to everyone back home in the UK. I am happy because I have peace of mind that my Grandad (and other family from abroad) will always have a great place to stay at, when they visit me. I can't recommend this place enough. The value you receive is not reflected in the price. I would pay triple than what is charged. Thank you Bernie! You and your B+B really stood out to my Grandad and helped make his stay in Dublin to be memorable and enjoyable. He can't stop talking about what a great stay it was. He's now already planning his next visit!

Beautiful B&B owned by 3 brothers who bought and refurbished the place in memory of their late mother (Marie) hence the name, Marie's Bed & Breakfast! All three brothers are on the property and very attentive and helpful! Beautiful B&B with lovely rooms and bathroom! Also, the whole place is so clean!! We got the twin bed room with the garden view and private bathroom/shower. Very relaxing and friendly environment. Literally, can't think of anything that I would want or need. We mentioned that we were planning on taking a cab into central dublin downtown for tours and they coordinated and called a taxi/cab for us for every day!! The rooms and bathroom was cleaned every day when we left for our excursions. And it's always so nice and welcoming to be back after a long day. Clean shower, and comfortable beds are what makes it even more memorable to a great vacation. If you have questions they will answer it! Need a good game plan for a trip in town? Done! Both times, we arrived a bit too early to check in so we were allowed to leave our luggage with the staff while we explored the city. The first room we stayed in was pretty spacious and clean, though homely (country-style decor) and the bathrooms were decent. There was a sitting area with a fireplace (nice touch) as well as a "library" with wifi and desks. The hotel itself is deceptively big. During our second stay, we were sent down a hallway to an elevator and ended up in rooms that seemed more chain-hotel-ish (and less homely country-style than our first room). The staff members were so nice and generous. There was one guy who gave us a bunch of utensils and plates for us to use for the takeout fish & chips we brought home for dinner one night. It's in a good location (near the Spire) and you can pretty much walk everywhere. We even walked all the way to the Guinness Storehouse. (Though, to be fair, you can pretty much walk the entire city, as it is not that big).

The things you sacrifice for the cheap price are 1) space and 2) private bathroom (you do get your own shower). For me, that was no problem as I'm a light packer and like to save money. If that is a problem - you'd probably be better off staying in a proper hotel. The showers are hot (stayed in February), there's free Wi-Fi, they serve you a hot and made to order full irish breakfast from 8-10AM (sausage, egg, ham, baked beans). Staff is friendly and helpful both with room accommodations and helping you find your way around Dublin. The walls don't block out sound and you can hear neighbors pretty well. It was never a problem for me, as I'm a heavy sleeper, but if you're a light sleeper, I'd recommend bringing a noise maker. The room only had two available plugs, but you can ask for a power strip at the main desk and they'll give you one. There's not a lot of space here - just enough room to get to your bed and out the door, and small stairways and hallways. However for the cheaper price, it is well worth it. So if you don't mind the lack of space and want a cheaper option, I'd do this. Otherwise - look for a proper hotel and avoid the B&B strip altogether. A final note - this is on a street with a bunch of other B&Bs so it'd be worth checking prices of the other B&Bs as they do change frequently.

FYI - There was no hair dryer or iron in the room, and breakfast was just ok. I think the best part of this place however, was the staff. Excluding the night shift guy, everyone went above and beyond expectation. They stored our bags when we arrived at 7am, let us use the washroom to clean up (before checking in). Gave us pointers on sight seeing, restaurants, etc. And when we had a snafu with our rental car, we asked to book a taxi to get to a wedding over an hour away. Without asking, the woman at the front desk, looked up (significantly) cheaper alternative for us (bus route and she mapped out how to get to our next hotel!). Note: all my recent vacation in Ireland Yelp reviews will have the same 1st paragraph preamble, for…read morejust the review itself skip to the 2nd paragraph. On a whirlwind 2 week vacation to Ireland, the girlfriend & I tried to see & experience absolutely as much of this incredible land as we could. We did not accomplish every last activity we wished we could have on our rather ambitious itinerary. Nonetheless, we did discover a land of numerous stunning & magical wonders. We did see a land of unending natural beauty. We did learn of a land with a monumentally long history of trials, tragedies & triumphs. We did get to meet many kind, humorous, warm & generous people. Our vacation to Ireland was just 2 weeks, but that was time enough to know this is a land easy to love & a land to be sorely missed. Fresh off the plane, the girlfriend & I took the Airlink all the way to the Central Bus Station which is a conveniently short walk to the Maple Hotel. Being the 1st of 5 hotels in our Ireland trip, I really wanted to love this place but knew that any sort of grand hotel anywhere remotely near Temple Bar for cheap wasn't completely realistic. It was with lowered expectations that we checked into our room. The Maple Hotel met some of those very much lowered expectations, fell short in some ways & exceeded expectations in one aspect. Fortunately, the girlfriend & I both packed light (just 1 carry-on each) as there is no elevator in the Maple Hotel. Getting to any room means climbing stairs & hauling your stuff up those stairs. The room was seriously tiny. The room had a full size bed & barely enough space around it for 1 person to walk. The room had its own bathroom, but this was tiny too. As small as all of it was, this was fine with us & manageable. What wasn't so fine was the smell. The room smelled like the walls were impregnated with old cigarette smoke & then freshly painted over. It was nice that the room looked like it had a fresh coat of paint, but the smell meant keeping the window open to air it out. Otherwise, the room was fairly clean. The girlfriend did, however, get a couple series of bug bites while sleeping here which made me think bedbugs were a possibility. A few other notes concerning the room itself: the toilet was temperamental & would not completely flush reliably, no washcloth was provided (apparently not uncommon, only 1 of the 5 hotels on this trip had washcloths) & the phone in the room does not call out at all. Regarding some hotel services: there is a payphone in the lobby but it devours money without connecting calls, there is no private car park (though their website seems to imply there is), there is free wifi but its range is mostly limited to the lobby area, there's a small pub in the hotel behind the front desk & a breakfast (served 8-10am downstairs below the front desk) is included with the room every morning. The included breakfast was easily the highlight. One of the choices available was the "Irish breakfast" (1 egg, 2 sausage, 2 rashers, pudding*, beans, toast, coffee, OJ). I had this every morning of our stay & it was a great way to start the day. The 3 best things the Maple Hotel has going for it are: its location not far from Temple Bar, a decent breakfast included with the room fare & the relatively cheap room rate. Everything else about these accomodations leaves a little or a lot to be desired. With the advantage of hindsight (& having stayed at our last of 5 hotels in Ireland, also in Dublin near Temple Bar), I now know that there are better, cheaper & more centrally located accomodations to be had. On any future visit to Dublin, I will definitely try to stay at our 5th hotel, which was also in Dublin & where we stayed our last night in Ireland before heading home. While I will always remember my 1st days in Ireland fondly, the fact is that there are better hotels for the money in Dublin around Temple Bar. *there's a white & a black pudding served throughout Ireland, this one was closer to the white, but more like a grilled liverwurst

Also easy access to areas on interest on both sides of the River Liffey. The room we had was up 4 flights of stairs and there is no elevator. It was a small room but adequate. It is so close to the street that you might get some street noise. The breakfast was just OK, though the filter coffee was good and they made very good toast. Overall the staff was nice, professional and accomodating.
