Easy to reach, honest, great work, and they keep good records. Unfortunately we need to rebuild our chimney, and fix a crack in our flue. I had our contractor friend take a peak after The Top Hatter reported all this last year, after I hired Top Hatter to clean out our chimney. The company I had hired the 2 years before, reported nothing of the sort. Our contractor friend agreed with Top Hatter's report, and said the price they quoted was fair. I misplaced the the quote/paperwork from last year. And wasn't even sure which company had made the report. I called Top Hatter the other week, inquiring if they are the company who had seen us last year. The lady who answered the phone was cheery, did a quick search for my account, and had all the notes from last year, in front of her, in the company's system, with in seconds. About six months ago I had them clean the HVAC vents in my rental. They did a great job. Showed up a little earlier than scheduled, Great! He found some kids little toys and the dirt and dust bunnies that the toys had trapped. Cleaned up after himself as if he had not been there. Yesterday I had them come to my house to clean the chimney. Again they showed up a little early to the scheduled appointment. Amber went straight to the fireplace and Josh climbed onto the roof. I only burn Duraflame logs. Amber told me that the flu was pretty dirty, even though I use logs, not wood. Every time Josh ran the brush up and down, lots of ash came down. Again when they left it looked like they had NOT been here. I'm very happy with the final results and will use them again next year. read more

Human's make mistakes. I am writing a strong recommendation for The Top Hatter because they were incredible about how they addressed mistake. We had a simple duct cleaning. A safety panel was left open causing the furnace to not work correctly. We ended up having a furnace repair company come out at the cost of $89. They identified that the error was a simple "door needed to be closed correctly". When we brought this to the attention of The Top Hatter they covered the $89 cost immediately and without hassle. This is the second year in a row that I have used them for chimney cleaning for my wood stove. This is a family run business and they are super friendly. The person that schedules appointments is genuinely cheerful and super helpful. The folks they sent out to clean the chimney were on time, and very courteous. They did a great job cleaning the chimney and firebox and were careful not to make a mess while doing so (wore booties, and put down a huge drop cloth, etc.) Prices were very reasonable. I couldn't be happier with their service, and since this is now two years in a row with the same positive experience, I feel very comfortable recommending them. They also do air ducts, and dryer vents. When I mentioned in passing that I was having trouble accessing my furnace filter the guys took a few minutes of their time and showed me the panel on my furnace where I could more easily access the filter. I ordered several items and only received 1, I have had issues with getting a response from their customer service agents, they have no phone number listed to call them. You can only email them. I emailed them with the issue almost a month ago and still haven't heard back from them. They still your money and they don't follow through with their "buyer protection" guarantee. They will not refund your money, weather or not you receive the item is not Relevant to them. They are a bunch of money hungry people who could care less about the customer service they give. read more

We are exceedingly grateful to have come across The Top Hatter on Yelp. Because they were in the top 10 companies listed for 'duct cleaning,' I gave them a call for pricing and availability. Laura, the person who answered my call, took more time to answer my questions than any one else I spoke with. Her descriptions of the duct-cleaning and chimney-sweeping services were more detailed, too. Finally, The Top Hatter was able to come out to my house on short notice. Sweet relief! The Top Hatter is the real deal. For a fair price, they came out and cleaned our ducts and chimney with very little notice. When the work was done, I had a quick chat with Ryan about the work he'd done, and his observations. I had my chimney swept and inspected. I was home the entire time and they were in and out in about 20min. I assume that there was no build up and therefore no real need for a sweep, but I had just purchased the home so I wanted to be sure I could use the fireplace without worrying. No problem; easy money for them. They gave me a quote with several items they would recommend. We discussed which items were urgent and which items could wait. They suggested I should replace the shoulder on the chimney first since that was the root cause. They were going to remove the chimney shoulder and replace it. I have called to schedule a time to perform the service. Now they say they can not do this without pressure washing the entire chimney for an additional $650 even though they originally told me that could wait since they were replacing it anyways. read more

I am happy to give The Top Hatter the highest rating. Today, their technician went beyond the call the duty to help me with my dryer vent. He found my problem... the dryer duct had been disconnected in the attic (probably by the sky light estimator guy). The Top Hatter went up through the tiny hole in my attic and reconnected the duct to the vent in the roof... all without charging me extra! Maybe he felt pity on me because of my sprained ankle. But, he was very kind to reconnect the duct (which normally cost $100 extra) and clean out the dryer duct... all for the low price of a cleaning! Thank you so much!!! As I posted earlier, staff of this company broke a piece of my floorboard as they were cleaning and did not tell me. But when the office found out about it, they were quick to respond, asking what they could do to to make it up to me. They eventually refunded part of my payment and said they would make sure to talk to their staff about it. I received an immediate response to my online request for a quote from Laura, who was wonderful about answering all of my questions and providing a straight-forward quote for fireplace/chimney cleaning. She was able to set up an appointment for me the next day, even though this is their busy season. The technicians gave a courtesy call in the morning when they thought they might be 15 minutes late, but ended up arriving right on time. They performed the cleaning and inspection quickly and efficiently and did a thorough job. They also provided a quote to put in a damper and fix some cracks in the firebox, but didn't try to 'sell' me anything I didn't need. We moved into a 101 yr old house that always had a funky smell. When I started to smell something dead coming out of my vents I knew I had to do something. I requested a quote on Home advisor and this company was the first to call me back. They were very knowledgeable over the phone, and were willing to come out that same day! The smell was from a mouse caught in the vent opening, but from their cleaning of all my vents I can already tell a difference in the funky smell that has been there since we moved in April! Hired these guys to inspect 4 chimneys (4 plex) and clean as needed. Their price was competitive and availability better than I expected for late autumn. Next time I'll try to schedule in the off season! They arrived when they said they would, took maybe 45-60 minutes, and charged price that was agreed on. Only one chimney was found needing a cleaning, a nice surprise. They noted fireplace wall repairs I should make in the near future which made sense to me (cracks in walls). Had an appointment scheduled between 3-3:30. Techs arrived at 2:15 (we weren't home); paperwork said they waited "over an hour" but when we arrived home just after 3 they weren't there. Where to start. At first this company was easy to work with. They scheduled a session in a reasonable time frame and were polite on the phone. It all changed when the representative showed up to the house. He had zero customer service skills, did not explain anything, did his work, wrote his invoice, and left. I tried to ask a couple questions but he was not wanting to explain himself. When my husband called the company to share our experience the lady on the phone recognized that that person is shy and has had that complaint before. Well, my husband got the answers and explanations to the industry jargon on the invoice and now have a gameplan on what we need to do to our chimney. Everything was valid and we were ready to continue with this company. We paid full price last week, and today I ran across a coupon for $30 off. I got 3 recommendations for duct cleaning and right off the bat these guys were great. The woman who answered the phone, Jennifer, was informative and helpful with a hard quote right off the bat. The other company I called said that an average house is $400-1200 and that she would send someone out to give me a bid. No thanks. Top Hatter ended up costing just over $300 (appx 2400 sq ft house, 2 cold air returns and 13 heat vents.) They were fast, efficient and SUPER nice. I went to a cafe while they were working (took about an hour and a half with 2 guys) and they called me when they were about 15 min from being done. Worst service ever! DO NOT HAVE YOUR DUCTS CLEAN BY THIS PEOPLE! They are rude!! I had my ducts cleaned by them because I read they had good reviews here but equipment is dirty and smells. My floors were left a mess. When I called to give my feed back Jennifer "the owner" according to her said that it was mold in my bathroom the cause of the smell and there is no mold in my bathroom. She blamed me for the smell and told me that what I wanted was a discount which I never asked for. I just called them to give a feed back. I don't need a refund or a discount. I will never get my ducts cleaned by this people again and will never recommend anybody hiring them. Please don't be fooled by the reviews. I usually never write a negative review but this people seriously don't know how to treat their customers. VERY DISAPPOINTED but lesson learned. read more

Scheduled an appointment and confirmed it twice before taking the day off to meet them. 1.5 hour in advance they tried to move up the appointment, and when I couldn't because of traffic and other commitments they cancelled the appointment 30 minutes prior to the time. Excellent Service! My clothes dryer vent was overdue for cleaning and I think too long and too high for me to do clean it myself. Laura scheduled me for same day service. These guys saved me! My clothes dryer was not working well. I hired another company to clean the duct. Our vent is on our roof. When the other company was here they would not climb onto our roof. Instead, they vacuumed and blew air from my laundry room only. After they left my dryer worked for 1 day, and then started working worse than ever. Since I just had the duct cleaned I called a dryer repairman out to look at my dryer. After checking everything out, he told me he was 100% sure it was my duct. My dryer was in great shape. Frustrated I called Top Hatter. The woman who answered the phone was helpful. She assured me they would go onto the roof and clean the entire duct appropriately. It was a Thursday afternoon, and I was worried I wouldn't have a working dryer until the next week or later. Top Hatter worked me into their schedule so that they came to my house on Friday - the next day! (As a mom with kids I have TONS of laundry!) The guys who came out did a great job. They went onto the roof and pulled out a lint ball the size of a small basketball!!! After the guys from Top Hatter left my dryer worked better than ever!!
