I've gotten back into thrifting lately, so during the holidays, I drove to Thrift-ory in Ravenel to do some shopping. It's not a bad drive from West Ashley- about 15 minutes down Hwy. 17.
Thrift-ory is a family-owned thrift store with several departments. First, there's a typical "thrift" area with set prices. For example, shirts are $3, pants are $4, and so forth. Up front, there's a higher-end area with more designer brands (Lucky, Limited, David's Bridal, etc). Those items cost more than the set prices, but are still fairly priced. The clearance area was outside, since it was a sunny day, and everything was $2 or under.
The lady who helped me made me feel like a VIP, even in a thrift store. She greeted me and offered me hot chocolate or hot tea- a nice touch on a chilly day, and I took her up on the hot chocolate. As I browsed, I heard her greet other customers and even call "regulars" by name.
I tried on a dress that did not fit, and when I mentioned it didn't work for me, she found me another dress on the higher-end rack in my size to try. The second dress fit well and was beautiful on- I think she was just as happy to find and sell it to me as I was to buy it.
Since it was Christmas, holiday decor had a separate section and was even on sale. Thrift-ory has different sales each month depending on the color of the price tag. Plus, they had a box of children's books and allowed anyone who wanted to pick out a book or two for free. I grabbed several for my friend's daughter.
The customer service I received at Thrift-ory, along with the gorgeous dress and other items were well worth the drive to Ravenel. I purchased four items and spent just under $20. I'll definitely be back! read more
