Very popular church run thrift store that had a line of customers waiting to enter until someone inside left. So many donations of various kinds are always coming in, and the volunteers try to keep displays full at all times. I'm pretty sure you can find whatever you are looking for somewhere in the shop. Overall fine experience with the place itself, however their hours go until 4 each day. Around 3:50 they made an announcement they were closing and began running up to customers demanding that they check out immediately. Essentially forcing people out 10 minutes early (and not kindly!) who were paying customers. Super odd experience!! read more

Get there early. Packed with bargain hungry women looking for great deals. This place is like a Goodwill but smaller scale and they have nicer furniture. We found some gorgeous bowls. Great shop and super duper bargains to be had. The only place on the island that I felt took Covid seriously. They were limiting people in the building, limiting your time there (30 min) by color coded stickers, and taking your temp upon entry. Lovely, helpful staff. read more

I give this 2 stores because of the staffsome of them. The customers are extra nice. Well, anyway, it was Valentine's Day and I had just gotten from members to see ruin decided. I would hit up to the speech and stop there. Purchase $40 with the earrings. I think they're kind of pricey. So I went out to my carand it came over the income. Their customers, anything on the shelf. For Valentine's Day is free yours for the taking. So I return back in the store. I asked the worker where was the Valentine's Day stuffhe said right here and so I picked out some things that was relative to Valentine's Day. I started to just walk out the stores since they said it was free but no I check with the stuffyeah. And they just blatantly did not want to give me all the items that was relative to Valentine's Day. One was there she had just taken lent. And she waited till the other lady came back instead of her shutting up. They're both double team and me. Oh, we can't give you this. Oh no, you can't have that. I said well, it's or not. Valentine's Day shelf, so I don't know if I will be going back if I do. It would be just because of I meant some nice customers. And the lady in the jury deportment was helpful. But $17 for a pair of air rings in $14 and others kind of ridiculous. And they act as if I was gonna still. They had a register back there in the back and then went up in the front. This is a Presbyterian Church non-profit store run by very nice people. The goods are hit or miss. That's what a thrift store is all about if you ask me. It's like going fishing. They have some sewing items, not tons. I found a nice pr. Of knitting needles for $.50 Today there was a nice one person sailboat for sale. They have cool jewelry, some costume some high end. I visited The Bargain Box today for the first time. 5 minutes before it opened there were at leased 25 people hanging out in front of the store waiting for it to open. It is a nIce thrift store. I dIdnt look at any of the clothes, but they had lots of housewares, books, wall art, mIrrors and some furniture. Staff was friendly. This is a small shop but probably the best on island thrift shop. Their donations are more high end than the other thrift stores and their prices are reasonable. They offer discounts and there is a board as you enter the building listing featured specials. Their hours are the most limited so check days/times before you make the trip out. read more

The short review: If you really love thrift stores and you have time to kill? Fine. Go ahead, but don't say I didn't warn you. The long review: I'm an expert on just about nothing...except thrift stores. From coast to coast I've rummaged through other people's cast-offs and made the racks sing. I love thrift stores and don't really care if I find anything or not. It's all about the search. When a gem is found, it's icing on the cake. So, here's the deal, The Bargain Box has limited hours. Opens at 1-4PM Mon. Wed., Fri. and 9:15-12:15 Sat. Shoppers start lining up outside at least--at least!-- 20 minutes prior to opening because the fire marshall will allow a limited number of people in the space at one time. When the doors open, once across the threshold, people act as if they're trying to escape a burning building, rather than going into a small, mediocre thrift store. Frankly it's kinda weird. Have I had some luck at The Bargain Box? Yes, yes I have. I've made a couple of good purchases. Nothing Antiques Road Show worthy, but a couple of good bargains for the money. For the most part, though, there is just not that much there and rarely anything really special. I've noticed regulars who are there every time I go, which makes me think there are the occasional screaming finds. I've also noticed that some of the clientele are in a survival of the fittest mode and don't mind pushing ahead of you, using a little body weight to command a space or grabbing something your hand is only inches away from holding. People, people, people! They are only pillow cases! I was there just last week and when I left I decided I'm over it. Arrived at the Bargain Box on a Thursday about 45 minutes before it closed. This is definitely what you would call an "old skool" thrift store. Items are roughly organized into men's, women's and household items with a separate room for larger pieces like furniture. As with most thrift stores jewelry is in a glass showcase and more valuable items are behind the counter. If you don't mind mixing with all types of people, tiny aisles and digging to find possible buried treasure then this place is for you. The Bargain Box is definitely a place that strikes me as "hit or miss." If you are looking for items to be organized by size, color, etc then you would probably like some of HH other thrifts better. In the short time I was there I managed to score a pair of vintage earrings for $4 and a genuine Coach bag (with a few small scratches) for $30. The older ladies behind the counter were very nice and helpful even though they were also preparing to close. I wouldn't mind coming back next time I'm in HH. read more

I was physically assaulted by a customer and an employee today. Constantly have to deal with the rudest employees, plus they seem to have raised their prices each year. How is selling an old dress for $20 a "bargain" I come here at least 2 times a year for the past 10 or so years. This year I've been probably 5 different times. So yeah, this kind of behavior from a staff member does not surprise me at all. That's not to say there arent some really nice people that volunteer their time at the bargain box, but for someone to go so far as to try and physically hurt me is just plain bizarre! read more

We have lived in the area for six months, and this is the first time I went to the bargain box it was great. The building wasn't a huge place but nice clean items in the store, not junkie. Very good prices on everything. I'll be back many more times!! read more

This is my absolutely favorite thrift shop on the island. I stop here every time we are here on vacation and ALWAYS find something awesome! Tips: The hours of operation here are random. Check the website before you plan your visit. Get there about 10 minutes before they open. A line will form outside and getting a place up front is helpful. They will only let a certain number of people in the store at one time and the good stuff goes fast. Go directly to the area you most want to find a deal in. Picture frames are first on the right. Books are on the left near the registers. Babies, children, men and games/toys are on the left. Followed by household items like kitchens wares and decor on the left. Women's clothing and shoes are straight back with the boutique items. Furniture, sporting goods and bedding are in the annex area to the left. Grab a basket up front when you first come in. You are going to find stuff you want and it's easier to have something to carry it in! Grab anything you think you may want. You can try it on and decide later at the sorting table. Use the sorting table - here you remove your items from their hangers and fold them into your basket for checkout. There are hanger organizers on the floor at the table. No strollers allowed. I carried my 7 month old in a carrier and it was fine. It is tight in there though, the racks are close together, there are lots of people shopping and some items are displayed close to the floor where you have to bend down or squat. Visit the boutique counter in the rear left of the store. I have seen fur coats, Kate Spade and Coach bags in this section. Grab a bargain guide at the register! Most thrift shops have a book that lists all of the area thrift shops and their location. I also like to go to St Francis Thrift Shop, Community Hospice Thrift and the Goodwill while I am here too! (Goodwill is across the street from Community Thrift.) Enjoy!! read more

Because of poor weather during our vacation, we visited several of the thrift and consignment stores on the island. We met several friendly people and found a few treasures. None of the were at the Bargain Box. Don't waste your time with a visit. They were closed during the holidays. The first day they reopened, people were lining up 45 minutes before scheduled opening time. We made another stop and returned just at opening time and were at least 50th in line. I questioned someone else in line and ask why there was such a crowd, but she didn't know either. When I got to the door, I saw a sign that said "All items with stickers half off". There was another line indicating all jewelry was half off. The same information was on a sign inside. I assumed that was the reason for the crowd. While we were shopping, one of the ladies mentioned on the intercom that all items with yellow stickers were half off. I wondered why that was different from the sign, but there seemed to be a bit of confusion about several things in the store, so I thought we could sort it out when we checked out. We selected a few items and went to the cash register, where we were told that NO items were half off except jewelry. One of the cashiers said more than once that she had told the manager that the signs would create confusion, but was ignored. I ask to speak to the manager, who was extremely rude. It seems that they usually put a color before the word sticker and the sign is always there. I ask how I was to know that, and she replied that I should have ask someone. Since I read the sign and apparently understood what it said, I had no obvious reason to ask anything. She refused the discount, even though it was less than $5, and I left the store without buying anything. My husband overheard others waiting outside the store discussing the half off sign and told them it was wrong. They were pretty annoyed as well. I suspect that the store lost a lot of good will today. To the manager, a simple explanation and friendly apology would have kept me happy. I would have purchased my items and left a good review. Having a smart attitude and making it my fault that the sign was misleading was poor customer service and just plain nasty. Learn some people skills or let someone else talk to the customers. I definitely recommend you try other thrift stores when in the area. read more

Banana Republic pants for $2! Eccentric jewelry for cheap! Books galore! I love this place. Inventory does vary as it a thrift store, but my mom and I always manage to find something good. The BB does get very busy upon opening which can be overwhelming, so if crowds bother you, go a little closer to closing. The ladies who work (VOLUNTEER) there are a gem and the guys in the back are always willing to help. Still regretting not buying this vintage leather and chrome chair some years back, but I have scored some cool Vera Wang scarves and such. And remember, all of the profits are donated to charities in the Hilton Head area, so your new digs help the humane society and so many others. Keep re-using and recycling folks, it's wayy better than Walmart. read more

Some of the items for sale were an excellent quality. A beautiful Broyhill sofa for $50 was a great deal and I wish I had room in my car for it. read more

While visiting Hilton Head last month we heard about the Bargain Box and decided to see what the talk was all about. Upon arriving in the parking lot, we saw a line of people waiting for opening time of 1:00. So funny to see people waiting, playing cards and even some brought chairs to sit in. We were able to talk to some of the people in line, who told us this was one of Hilton Head's hidden gems. Besides fabulous prices and unique finds, money brought in went to help the community. We anxiously awaited our turn to enter and then couldn't believe the bargains inside. Yes, it is crowded and if you see something you might consider...you better take it because it probably will be gone quickly. Such a huge variety, we literally spent 2 hours just looking! If only this was in New York, we would have purchased the gorgeous bedroom furniture for our extra bedroom. I did pick up a few items for our kitchen...$1-3.00 each with values over $25.00 for each item. Also some fun jewelry for $1.00 or so each item. Will definitely visit the Bargain Box again on our next visit to Hilton Head...well worth checking out! read more
