The service is first class and the staff are extremely polite and freindly and absolutely nothing is too much trouble for them. I have eaten there on many occasions and have never had a complaint about the food. The have a wide variety on the menu and it is always cooked wonderfully with very good portions. I especially love the Sunday lunch and is great for those with a big appetite! The prices are great and the meals are excellent value for money. They often have live entertainment, there is a pool table and great outdoor eating/playing area. Wide screen TV. They have a big car park. They also have a function room to hire and I believe they do not charge for this hire but you would need to confirm that. All in all I would recommend the Port 'O' Call.

It requires a 2-mile detour off the A48 between St Mellons and Cardiff. The menu offers a fair choice, ranging from bacon butties for breakfast (perhaps with golfers in mind), through to more substantial dishes later in the day, including pan-fried venison steak with red wine, mussels in tomato and herb sauce, fish and vegetable pie, roast duck breast with orange sauce, and bread and butter pudding with custard. £40 for 2. There is a good choice of real ales, which included HB and Speckled Hen on my last visit, a picturesque pub garden with outside tables, widescreen tv which implied the availability of sports events while you eat and drink, and its split-level layout features an upper gallery where you can sit down and survey those below.

These are clearly their trade mark, but it's not all down to the desserts. Boys, if you want to impress your lady friend, this is indeed the place to take them. The decoration, the lighting and the overall atmosphere set the mood for the perfect romantic evening. The restaurant is small, which helps even more to the atmosphere, but would advise booking in advance to avoid disappointment. Overall the food is outstanding. The dishes are elegantly presented and a treat to your taste buds. The menu has a good selection to cater for all tastes and they even include a dish created in honour of Wales very own Catherine Zeta Jones. Staff are also extremely friendly and helpful. It is true that the prices are not for your every day visit, but worth the quality of the food and service you receive. The only downside is the location, which is a bit unexpected, as once you step out at the end of a lovely experience you just seem to be in the wrong place.

The steak I had was amazing whilst my dad was equally impressed with his dish, although I can't remember what it was. Service is friendly and helpful. The desserts are something else altogether though, it's clear how they made their name through them as the wife and I have tried a couple now and they're delicious. Only real downside is the location. Whilst in town is great for parking etc it's not in the nicest area and the building itself is very small leading to at times some cramped seating. Even this isn't enough to affect it's rating though as it's that good.

The owner of this small cafe/deli is one of the many people running the operations behind the display counter. As you walk in the shop, you first see a little shop that sells cards and trinkets. In the far end is the display case and counter where you can order food. The other half of the restaurant is the dining area, where the food is brought to your table. The decor of this place is wonderful - quaint country cottage style theme with bright colours, simple wooden furnishing, while maintaining minimalism. Great place for a bunch of girls to meet for brunch (as was most of the clientele when we arrived for brunch before we headed out to go castle hunting for the day. The food selections are limited to sandwiches and salads as it is a cafe but they do a great job with the menu. We had: - two capuccinos - one chorizo and chicken wrap: tasted mexican and was recommended by the owner - one breakfast toastie: came with a delicious salsa The total was about 13 quid and the atmosphere makes you not want to leave. Also they have free wifi. They close at 5pm so it's not a place to have dinner. If I lived in Newport, I'd definitely be here all the time.

It's trendy with really colourful decor that matches the overall theme of the restaurant. The only downside is that the seating arrangement is pretty crowded. ~ Customer Service: A huge upside! All the staff here were absolutely wonderful. Our waiter did get an order wrong, but it's fine since it was just his first day on the job and the staff were really accommodating through getting the order right and giving the wrong version for free! It was a bit of a wait for our food as well, but again this can be attributed to the restaurant being massively full on opening day. I'm sure that all those hiccups would be smoothed out in the future after the staff get a bit more experience under their belt. ~ Food: The food was very impressive and lovely altogether. I thought that it would be a overpriced first coming in, but the prices were actually decent for the portion sizes. I ordered a trio of 3 fish tacos off their lunch menu that had smaller portions and cheaper prices with a side of sweet potato fries. All of it was so delicious and the fish was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of smokey flavour. --- Given that this location just opened, I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed. If I come back in the future when the staff has more experience and get the same level of food quality, I'd be happy to bump my review to 5 stars.
