The folks at the table in front of me had finished more than half there drinks and ordered food though arriving at least five or more minutes after I had. When I finally received my first beer I let her know and she blamed other staff that was late. I then stated that the table in front of me came five or more minutes later than myself and again she blamed it on others. They should hire staff that are honest with folks. One of the go-to places for having a drink in New West, if you don't mind going up the hill. Parking is available on the side streets. The interior is a bit narrow, but they have pool table, and a couple of TVs for watching the game. This establishment is a neighbourhood pub indeed. I didn't have the $6 burger and beer combo, but my friends did. Just by looking at it (and discussing with my friends), the burger is definitely on the small side. I would say it is smaller than a McDonald's hamburger. The patty is smaller than the bun. My friends said it tasted fine though, if you can overlook the small patty. Loud rock music, regulars screaming to each other, friendly sassy waitresses, daily cheap specials, gambling, multiple sports playing for free, pool tables, pull tabs, keno ...and what brought us i : 50 cent wings. We love this place . The people are friendly, the wings are actually really juicy (not those puny little wings that are all bone )... served hot and lots of sauce with dip. The waitresses are friendly and keep their eyes on your drink but otherwise leave you alone. After covid, you sign in with your phone number and use hand santizer but no masks to be seen which is fine by us. Us and our friends love this place. My husband and I live nearby and were looking for a local bar to frequent and this place is it. This place might not be impressive to they eye but it hasn't disappointed us yet. We've stopped by for beers, gotten appies, and even had dinner here a few times and its actually pretty good that easily satisfies the craving for bar food when we all get it. We have tried everything from the nachos, to the sweet potato fries to the wings and pizza and they are all really good, large portions, and well priced. There is a decent selection of beers on tap and more varieties in cans. The bar tender/server/extraordinaire, Tara is the only person we've seen when we visit which we love because she's fun and sassy, and does a great job running the place seemingly by herself. She definitely gives the place its character :) We are glad we started coming here and glad we can bring friends here for a drink if we aren't up for entertaining and want to play some pool. read more

Tara is such a hard working woman who puts up with so much crap from the lack of management. Every time I'm there she is running around getting so many things done and yet always greets us with a smile and our regular pale ale order!! My classmates and I came here all summer. It was cheap for us students, good quality eats and decent service. There's one waitress who's super nice everytime we go and another who absolutely hates serving us. Not really sure why since without us she wouldn't be getting any customers at certain times. Wings are cheap and have a great selection of flavours. I think about $4.50 for lb. I love the lemon pepper or honey garlic wings. Usually they are a pretty decent size. Very large plate of fries, delicious crab poppers, good burgers and there's always daily food/drink specials on top of the happy hour discount. The place is very clean and has a pool table, lottery tickets and a juke box to keep you entertained. They were also very accomadating when we had a large rowdy birthday party there or when we stayed till they needed to kick us out. also who doesn't like free parking in the back! This used to be our favourite bar in New West while still living there. The reason being our favourite server (her name escapes me ... ) was there and always greeted us with wonderful positivity. Now, unfortunately, I've moved back to the US and can only return to Canada once a year to visit. During these visits we'd make it a point of visiting the Thirsty Duck and our favourite server would still recognize and greet us. But this time, a few days back, things did not go well. It seemed that our favourite server made it a point not to greet us and to serve us with a certain degree of indifference. We were quite puzzled by this, but tried to leave well-enough alone. The final problem though was that my friend won a looney on the pull-tabs and before leaving presented the winning tab to our favourite server at the bar with a smile. She became flustered when discovering no loonies around and having to open a fresh roll of loonies. Finally when she got her looney, she made it a point of no eye contact and slamming the loonie on the bar counter in disdain. Obviously she was having a bad day. I can only assume that this may have to do with lack of management support, lack of staff, or something else. My friend mentioned to me at the airport: "I guess we have no reason to go back." Not bad, not bad at all. I prefer "dive bars" to a night club any day, but to be honest The Thirsty Duck isn't really a dive bar in my eyes. Perhaps because the floor was kind of clean, bathroom stalls had doors on them and the creepy old dudes just stared from afar rather than trying to drunkenly talk to me. There's something quirky about this place I like. Its your old school kind of neighborhood pub that's never to busy and never to quiet. The atmosphere is great, drinks are cheap but food is a hit or miss. When its good, its real good but when its bad, its real bad. This is your quintessential dive bar. The beer is cheap, and cold, the food isn't bad but the portions are good. The wait staff seems to suffer from ADD, but it adds to the charm of the place. Most of these bad reviews are probably from yuppy arrogant scrooges. My best friend and I have been coming to The Duck every single Wednesday for a couple years now. It's an old, dirty dive bar frequented by drunk old men, but the drink specials are great and the wing special on Wing Wednesday is to die for. Never had a bad chicken wing in this place and I've consumed thousands. Tara and staff are amazing, hardworking and friendly, getting to know us after only a couple visits and now providing personal life advice since we've become regulars. Good took quite a while from the time we took the order to the time it reached that table. There was none but us and 1-2 other people in the pub. My friend and I came to the Thirsty Duck on a Friday for dinner and some drinks. I bought an Entertainment Book earlier this year, which had two vouchers for the Thirsty Duck. One was for buy 1 entree, get one free. The other was for 20% off the bill. I mentioned this to the waitress and she quickly and coldly advised they aren't accepting them. She didn't give any explanation. My friend and I both ordered the burger and beer special. My friend ate about half of her meal and asked if she could have the rest packed up. The waitress gave another quick (and cold) response stating that they don't allow food specials to be packed. She suggested that maybe I'd be able to finish the rest of her meal... which was funny because I already had my own meal! She took our plates away a few minutes later and explained that it was too costly for them to give out one of their styrofoam containers on a food special. I've never heard this before! This was my first experience at Thirsty Duck and will certainly be my last. I prefer the Rivers Reach, which has a nicer atmosphere, better drink selection, better food, and MUCH better service. read more

When I come here, it's always on a Tuesday night so I can grab a drink or something to eat after a couple games of cheap bowling with my friends. We have a usual table, the waitresses are really nice, and we will probably become well known regulars in due time. I think my favorite part, though, is the food and the drinks. It's cheap anyway, but it's way cheaper at happy hour and on Wing Wednesdays. First time we went we ordered a couple shots, and then we asked if we could get them with pop and turn them into cocktails. As long as we ordered pop to do it and not juice you save the .45 cents or whatever on your drink, and it turns out phenomenally. (My friend, for instance, got a Jolly Rancher with 7Up or Sprite and it was delicious.) And their portions - we got a poutine and it was the size of a dinner plate. Definitely a dive bar. The place isn't the cleanest. The beer is cold and the best way you can describe the food specials is "ya get what you pay for" The $5.95 Sunday steak special is a joke! I don't know why they ask you how you want your steak done because it is impossible to cook med rare when you steak is less than a quarter inch thick. The ceasar salad was hotter than the steak and if you want "the works" on your overcooked, three day old baked potatoe it costs you $1.95 for a very small amount of sour cream, a couple of bacon bits and a little bit of chives. Came here on a random Thursday because of a friends invite out for wings. O boy was I surprised. Wings night here is amazingly cheap. Managed to grab a beer and 30 wings for just around $20. I have never had that many wings by myself and felt like I really wanted more because of how good the food was compared to the price. Parking here is great since they have a large lot, staff is friendly, and they pretty much have everything you want in a neighborhood pub. Stopped here last night only because we were nearby following a baseball game. Found it in the entertainment book and thought we'd try it out. Ordered wings and beers and perused the menu for items given our BOGO coupon. The waitress was inattentive, curt and almost rude - not at all the atmosphere I am used to from a neighborhood pub. She informed us upon ordering that the Ent. coupons weren't being honored - some line about them being put in the book without permission from the pub. There are amazing drink specials and one hearty meal special everyday. $3.45 for a Ceaser on Sundays. Sold! Been here a few times on wing night. Decent wings, however they do tend to put a wee bit too much sauce on some of the wet flavors. A few times I thought I was being served Chicken Wing Soup. I can't speak for what the bar is like at night but during the day it is terrible. I've stopped there about 4 times in the last few months. All my visits were between maybe 1 PM and 5 PM. I just wanted a beer after a long walk and stopped in for a pint of something wet and cold I guess the prices are okay as I'm not up on what beer costs nowadays, but the service, that is a joke. The last time I went in, the bar was empty except for the bar keeper and one other person. I asked in all seriousness if the bar was closed. I thought the woman at the bar might be a cleaning lady or something taking a break. The server looked at me like I was trying to pass off a bad joke and then she asked, very abruptly I thought, what I wanted. I told her that I thought she was rude and walked out. I probably would've have 2 or 3 beers a week there. I find it odd that they would be rude to a customer when they are clearly lacking any. As I walked out someone came in so I guess they didn't need my money Also, no off sales. I've have never heard of a bar or pub without some kind of off sales whether from a small fridge or a beer & wine store nearby (in BC that is) On a previous occasion another server had seemed frustrated when I pursued the question of why they didn't have offsales. She seemed in a hurry to do something else and I guess she did as the bar was packed. There was at least 8 or 9 people there. And they were just ordering pint after pint. I kid.
