Having passed it by on numerous occasions without a second glance... hiding in plain sight strikes…read moreme as the perfect semantic descriptor for this rather intriguing eatery. Tucked away within the precincts of the Club at Shannondell, a public golf course, Chadwick's is a hidden gem that is certainly well worth discovering. Locally owned and operated, the restaurant not only offers patrons a casually comfortable environment in both the main dining room and the cozy bar area, but also a menu of classic American fare filled with a variety of provocative gastronomic eye-openers. Yes, the usual suspects are present and accounted for. However, the kitchen has a tendency to team them up with a number of unusual and curiously compelling accoutrements. Which, needless to say, makes for some rather interesting - and thoroughly enjoyable - dining. Consider, for example, the Sweet Jersey Corn Flatbread. Most diners have encountered flatbread in one form or another and realize that the ingredients may vary greatly, depending upon the individual restaurant and/or whims of the chef. Here, as the name indicates, one of the slightly unusual features is the inclusion of kernels of roasted sweet corn. Old familiars like tomato and mozzarella are cast in supporting roles, with crumbles of crisp bacon contributing additional flavor and texture. But the pièce de resistance is clearly the irresistible splash of chipotle crema, which succeeds in generating just enough heat to push up the "wow" factor by several significant notches. Chadwick's Chophouse Salad (pictured) is yet another interesting variation on a favorite theme... The mixed greens and grilled chicken are certainly straightforward enough. But then things take a surprising turn with the addition of items such as dried cranberries, candied pecans, hickory-smoked bacon, apple slices, goat cheese, and white chocolate. Unusual? For certain. But also deliciously addictive... with a sinfully seductive white-honey vinaigrette providing the perfect complementary finishing touch. My dining companion and I were fortunate enough to share the two above-mentioned items during a recent luncheon sojourn; and I freely confess that we were more than just a little impressed with the kitchen's adventurous innovations. However, should you decide to put in an evening appearance - with menu entries such as Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf, Potato and Horseradish Crusted Salmon, Marry Me Chicken, and Slow Braised Mojo Pork - I'm certain that your taste buds will be equally inspired. The dessert menu, if you'll pardon the pun, is short and sweet. There are just four possibilities; but, in their own way, they are just as titillating as many of the items that have preceded them: Honey Jack Daniel's Bread Pudding, Chadwick's Peanut Butter Pie, Dubai Chocolate Torte, Brandied Cherry New York Cheesecake. As I have undoubtedly noted in previous reviews, any mention of peanut butter on a dessert menu is an immediate draw... and Chadwick's Peanut Butter Pie (pictured) is certainly no exception. That being said, however, incorporating proper peanut butter taste into cakes, pies, and pastries is definitely something of a "sticky wicket." In other words, problematic. So problematic, in fact, that in my years of reviewing various and sundry peanut butter-laced desserts, I have, for the most part, been consistently disappointed. Fortunately, that is not the case here. The taste of Chadwick's Peanut Butter Pie is subtle, yet exceptionally pleasurable. Ditto the texture... which succeeds in gently caressing the palate rather than overwhelming it.

Another local restaurant opening for date night- yea!, we were excited! 3 weeks ago (July 11), we spruced up for the night and headed to our 6:45pm reservation. We arrived and were greeted immediately at the hostess stand, we were sat quickly and took in the scene. It's a very open space, decor didn't give cool, classy wine bar. Rather just a run of the mill restaurant. The bar area is large and there's a wine shop in the back. We were surprised at how many open tables there were for Saturday prime time dining. And with that how much the voices around us echoed. But all in all we were comfortable. Our server arrived. She was nice, however obviously novice. We ordered a round of drinks. No Bombay Sapphire for my martini so I sufficed on Bluecoat. My husband ordered an Old Fashioned (with I think a wine floater). We contemplated apps and entrees..... We tried. We hoped, we wished for the plates we chose- We kept getting denied. Initially requested the calamari. A few minutes later our server returns- No calamari salad. Let's try for the short rib cigars. Hung out for awhile more. No go. She returned with additional words of disappointment. Ok- She suggested the brussel sprouts and my husband ordered wings. Now we hit the third strike. She again returned with notice of another item they were without. While it was just sauce......we wish we were sauced enough to not be annoyed. No honey mustard. At that, we decided it was going to be an apps only dining experience. In review of those- the Brussels were roasted well. Charred but not to a crisp that killed the veg, the glaze on it was great, would've loved more blue cheese. My husband's wings (now in mild), tasted fine. Fairly small, but ok. We had a gentleman check in on us at the table and honestly gave our feedback. Our experience and this review would have improved if our waitress was trained to be proactive. Be forthright and open immediately on what offerings are not available. Instead we had the one, two, three of feeling like dumb customers in asking for things that weren't available. If service was better, we may have returned for a full meal, sadly we will not. This already is pop, pop...fizzled out.

The service was just okay, but the environment is definitely not kid-friendly. They didn't have any drink options for small children, and out of the three items on the kids' menu, they were already out of the mac and cheese. Instead of standard chicken fingers, they served cutlets cut into strips. The adult options weren't much better--they were out of the coconut shrimp, and the peach margarita tasted awful. While the avocado toast looked appealing, the bread wasn't actually toasted. Lastly, the portions are incredibly small; my burger came with less than a handful of fries. We will not be returning to this establishment.

The place wasn't very busy at all so not sure why the lot was so full. Service was super nice. We had the best server. Very attentive and friendly while handling all of the tables outside on the deck. It was happy hour until 6 so we took advantage with a Cape IPA on cask ($5) and a well drink ($4) which were both solid. Wings were 1/2 price so we tried their Creole dry rub. Small wings but decent. I only noticed 3 flavors on the menu but I may have overlooked more since I heard the table behind us order a flavor I didn't notice. My wife had the burger salad and I had the mushroom burger. 8oz. patty and I wasn't impressed with its flavor. Plenty of Kennett mushrooms but they had no flavor. Beer braised onions were very few cand also nothing special. If it had the garlic aioli on there I didn't notice it or taste it either and the burger itself was as if it was a frozen patty. Very firm and almost chewy. Bun was warmed up nicely. The fries had zero seasoning and boring and they got cold fast. Bummer to say the least but the overall bill was reasonable. Didn't finish half the burger. They hire the right people, that's for sure. I'll have to rethink my order the next time and take another look for those other wing flavors.

The nachos were good with plenty of toppings and very fresh. For my meal I had the bourbon bacon cheeseburger with hand cup fries and my wife had a garden salad. They were chewy and not crisp at all. They tasted like they were under a warmer for hours. The fries also were a very small portion size. I would not recommend getting the fries try one of the other sides. Overall I would give Lock 29 a try if you are in the area.
