Really reasonable rates for rentals, and a great location right on the bike trail. Helmets are included in your rental, and you sign a release that says you agree to use the helmet. The woman at the counter suggested we go left on the trail, that way we enjoy the tunnel plus the coast downhill on the return trip. It was a great tip, and I believe I rode an entire mile coming back without using the pedals. There's a repair shop there, as well as a wonderful place to buy ice cream and BBQ. The trail itself is quite scenic, and there's a mix of runners, bikers and walkers. It's an enjoyable outing. If you are tall like me, they may not have a good fit for your rental. The attitude is "one size fits all, we can adjust the seat.". That works to an extent, but I would have enjoyed a larger frame. read more

The Tandem Connection is a great little shop conveniently located along the Montour Trail in Hendersonville. Housed in the historic, 100+ year old building that used to house the old Champion Coal Company Store, it is now a bike shop, rest-stop, and snack bar. I have purchased a few bike accessories, eaten both some BBQ and Ice Cream here, and have also enjoyed just perusing the literature rack too. A great place, and I am so glad it exists. read more

This is the first time my boyfriend and I went to The Tandem Connection. I immediately was taken aback by the prices of renting a bike. We ended up using two standard bikes (no special requests so we got put in the comfort/hybrid collection) for two hours. The total rang up to be $42 which we paid after we returned the bikes. This seems really pricey for only two hours of an activity and is more expensive than some of the other bike rental places in the Pittsburgh area. We got our assigned bikes and were told to check them out and they could make adjustments if needed. I sat on mine and peddled no more than 15 feet out and back, by the time I returned (20 seconds later) the employee was back inside. I had to wait to speak with her again to ask for more air as the bike's tires did not feel right and sounded flatter than they should. When she checked with her hand, she told me it didn't feel "that flat" but agreed to put in air. Upon trying to do so, she realized there was a hole in the tire and it was not retaining the air. She put the malfunctioning one with the other bikes and gave me a bike that a woman was presently returning. I'm not sure but hopefully that bike was not put back into rotation until the tire was replaced! Again I was told to check out the bike and 20 seconds later I returned to comment on the seat height. The same worker was back inside and I had to wait again to ask for help from her loosening the seat lock. So off we went to enjoy the bike trail. This bike shop is so perfectly positioned on the Montour Trail! A minute or two into the ride, I realized my left gear shift did not work and I was stuck in low the entire time. Although this did not pose much of a problem, I was slightly bummed by this. We returned after our two hours and paid our rental charge. We decided to give their bbq pork sandwiches a go. The food was slightly overpriced but good and came with two sides! Check out the pasta salad if you eat here. The shop did not have A/C which was a sad experience after riding 15 miles in 85* heat and needing a nice blast of cold air! Paying $21 for the convenience of not dragging around my own bike would be one thing if it was met with good service and good bikes. However, I felt the quality of the bikes we experienced and service did not match the price. It was a lovely family owned place but feel there is room for growth. read more

Stopped for some Perry's ice cream before our stroll on the trail. There was about 10 or so flavors to choose from. We tried both the lemon sorbet and the bittersweet sinphony (coffee ice cream with fudge swirls and chunks). Service was fine, price was average, taste was fine, nothing special. If you craving ice cream on the trail it's a nice spot to stop. If you have to go out of your way I'm sure there are better options. read more

Very friendly and great options for ice cream right on the Montour trail! Outside seating and places to stow your bike while you are there. The food (basic grill food) was closed while I was there, so I just got ice cream. There is also a bike shop where it looks like you could rent a bike or buy other items for your bike. Today I rode with a group on the Montour trail and we started here at Tandem Connection. There is a large gravel lot adjacent to their building for trail users to park their cars. At the end of our ride, we ate lunch and talked about our ride outside at one of their picnic tables. The tables all have umbrellas so you aren't in the direct sun. They have a nice BBQ menu for 6$. I had BBQ chicken which was a whole breast between two thick slices if bread (looked like potato bread), a refreshing watermelon slice, and slaw. It tasted great, especially after riding 30+ miles. I followed that up with a scoop of butter pecan ice cream. Made for a great end to the bike ride! read more

worst establishment and service I've ever experienced. I have called multiple times about a 5k they hosted to get a refund since they canceled it. This was IN APRIL. it's now getting to the beginning of october. everytime I've called it was always "you have to speak with the owner, we will have him call you back." yet the owner is never there and he never calls. you mean to tell me in 6 months they didnt have 15 minutes to call me back? Such a shady thing to do. It's such a shame cause I loved supporting local buisnesses with things like this. I will NEVER support anything they do again. read more

I was very impressed with The Tandem Connection! We wanted to ride the Montour train with our 5 year old. He has been riding for over a year but we were not sure about the distance he could cover. The folks at The Tandem Connection had a tag a long bike ready for him... BUT... since he had already been riding, our son didn't feel comfortable with so little control. He is very small though, so none of their kids bikes would fit him. So what did the folks at The Tandem Connection do? Well, they brought one of their son's bikes from their house for our son to ride and we had a GREAT time! The Tandem Connection is a great little ship with food, repairs, rentals, drinks... and is a good break point or starting point for your cycling trip. Left a bike for repair the 2nd week in June for pick-up the first week in July cause I was gonna be out of town. Bike was not ready three weeks later. Never got a call, never got an e-mail. Then when I did pick it up two days later, the rear brakes were defective. Now, they may have been before (although I never noticed it) but obvious that no one test rode it. They essentially sent me out on a bike that was dangerous to ride. They did repair brake while I waited for 40 more minutes. Worst repair of a bike I have ever had - and I am an avid rider. read more
