If you treat this location as its own thing, it's honestly really solid. Huge shoutout to Carlos at the register for the excellent customer service. We ordered food both for here and to-go, and everything was packed separately exactly how we asked. I've been to a different location before (La Jolla) and I think this location wasn't as good. I'm not sure what the difference was but the tacos weren't as flavorful especially when it came to the Carne Asada. At the La Jolla location you can see the staff making the tortillas + churros and this location the tortillas were packaged. I'm not sure if they use the same ingredients but this could have changed the flavor profile. They were still yummy don't get me wrong but they just weren't as good as I remember them. I ordered chips and guac as well and the staff forgot to include it in my order so I had to go up to the counter another time which was quite a hassle given it's a very busy restaurant with the line out the door the entire time I was there. The salsa selection is rather nice especially when most restaurants are trying to cut down on salsa options + use the lower quality ingredients. You can tell the ingredients in the salsas were high + they even have a few creamy options which is hard to see at most Mexican restaurants these days. I do think the guac was a little limey but it wasn't bad when you added it to the tacos. Let me start by saying the food here is amazing and the service has always been great. Unfortunately, I do have one major issue that has become extremely frustrating. I regularly order one or two sides of the Mahi Mahi, which is advertised as a 5-5.5 oz portion. I track my macros and weigh my food, and every single time the actual portion of fish has weighed between 1.5-1.8 oz. That's not a small difference, it's less than half of what is advertised. I've brought this up multiple times and specifically asked them to make sure I'm receiving the advertised portion. Each time, I've been assured that the serving is 5-5.5 oz, but when I get home and weigh it, it's still under 2 oz. After this happening three separate times, I felt like I needed to say something. I really enjoy this restaurant, which makes it even more disappointing. If you advertise and charge customers for a 5 oz portion of fish, they should actually receive something close to 5 oz. Great food and great service, but consistently receiving 1.5-1.8 oz when you're paying for an advertised 5-5.5 oz portion feels incredibly misleading and needs to be addressed. The Laguna Beach location has a small parking lot, and there's a good amount of both indoor and outdoor seating. It's not the cleanest seating area, but it gets the job done. My husband enjoyed his California burrito, but I was quite disappointed in my Pescado burrito. There was fish at the top and bottom of the burrito, but the entire middle was full of cabbage. I was staying at a nearby hotel. As a convenience, I decided to give "The Taco Stand" a try. I ordered the carne asada burrito. This was my first experience with brand, so I ordered it without customization. Per the menu description, it's "flame grilled angus steak (angus beef), guacamole, beans, tomato and salsa". It cost a little under $10.50. Per their website, The Taco Stand is a small chain of restaurants, with 16 locations scattered across the United States (CA, NV, TX & FL). I think this helps explain the taste. The positive is the steak was very good. It was marinated well; it was tender, while still providing a nice chewing experience. Otherwise, the burrito's overall taste was mild--almost bland. I suspect because they operate in different markets, they are trying to appeal to the greatest common denominator. Their salsa bar allows the diner to ultimately determine the taste. In California, we have access to so many styles of Mexican cooking. The Taco Stand's taste profile (for the burrito) isn't particularly distinct; but it is a safe choice, especially if you do not like strong flavors, or if spicy food irritates your stomach. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining. The indoor dining is nice; the outdoor dining is nice, too. The only share I have about outdoor dining here is that the restaurant sits at an intersection, with a signal light. There are people who cruise PCH on motorcycles with loud exhausts. The pictures looked good decided to try this but this place gave us food poisoning. When I got there it was around 2:30 pm and it was busy. The staff were friendly. It took 20 minutes to get my order. I got an al pastor burrito it just comes with meat and onion and cilantro and my brother got a carne asada burrito and added beans and rice. I should've added beans and rice for the extra charge but didn't.
