Passing through the area and craving good Mexican, a quick YELP search set me on my path to The Taco Guy. Inconspicuously situated in the corner location of an unassuming shopping center, The Taco Guy is a charming space that offers traditional Mexican fare. On my visit, I opted for the Carne Asada Burrito and Chicken Quesadilla. Originally, I ordered the burrito for me and the quesadilla to take home to my son but, upon opening each box, I could not resist taking a bite. And I am so glad that I did. The combination of melty cheese and savory seasoned chicken were a perfect, harmonious bite. Now, this is not one of those thin quesadillas that's been cooked in butter to achieve a crispy exterior. This is a toasty tortilla filled with tender seasoned chicken and creamy melted cheese served with shredded lettuce, sliced avocado, and crema. It comes with sides of rice, beans as a complete meal. The Asada Burrito was equally as delicious as the quesadilla. Tender marinated steak cooked a la plancha, rice, beans, cheese, and lettuce all wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. The seasoning for the beef had a pleasant flavor that I had not tasted before. The addition of the lettuce in the burrito made for a refreshing crunch and coolness that paired well together. It came with chips and salsa but, I felt they were unnecessary after eating half of the quesadilla and half of the burrito, I was no longer hungry. Meh this place is ok. I think I'd rather drive to Gainesville for good Mexican food or go inside that one Mexican grocery store on Main street that also sells food and has indoor seating. The first time that I came, I ordered the steak quesadillas with rice and beans. They give you a lot of quesadillas which is good but I was bummed because the red and green salsas were bland, and I like to add salsa to my food.. The second time that I came, I ordered a steak torta and the torta itself was a 6/10. It wasn't that flavorful on its own, so I added a TONNN of salsa verde & it still didn't do much for me. Both times, I came in excited and left feeling like meh it was decent. I think it might be more catered to people who don't like their food to be too spicy. My husband and I stopped by there today after spending a few hours on the lake. It smelled good and tasted even better. The whole menu looks great. I've always wanted to try birria tacos, so I went for those and they did not disappoint. The meat was tender and very flavorful. My husband had chicken tacos and a chicken gordita. Tacos have a decent amount of meat and the cilantro and onion are always fresh. The rise is moist and not filled with peas and carrots and shit which is good. It's rice not a vegetable melody. This issue I have is the $4.25 charge for chips and salsa which is free everywhere you get tacos. They give you a bin with about 12 chips and some sun-par salsa. A more accurate review would probably be a 3.5 for me but I rounded up for great service, new family owned business, and homemade food. My usual go to for authentic street tacos and such is Taco Jalisco but I saw The Taco Guy pop up on my "Hot & New" search on Yelp so I convinced my wife to give it a try. The Taco Guy is located right off of Lanier Islands parkway in a small strip mall. The location is fairly small but I've come to find out that big things come in small packages when it comes to finding hidden gems. Walking in, you can see immediately that there are only about 4 tables. You walk up the counter and place your order. I wanted to try a little bit of everything. I ordered a couple of tacos, a gordita, torta, and cheese quesadilla. Tacos- big flavor punch but a little on the small side. I'm not an expert on tacos but pretty sure these tortillas were homemade. Kudos in my book. Gordita- a little disappointing as I can only describe it as a thicker tortilla was on the dry side. Torta- fantastic! So many layers of flavor. Cheese quesadilla- got this for the kids. Huge bang for the buck so much food + rice and beans. New taco place in between Buford and Flowery Branch. Not going to lie, we have been waiting on this place for a while. Seems they took forever to get the building ready, but it was worth the wait. I will say, seating is very limited. Maybe 20 seats in the whole place. They speak English well, which is sometimes a problem in these little taco places. We ordered 2 quesadillas, two tacos with carne asada, a taco with al pastor and a Gordita with chorizo. All of the food was really good. I can always tell how good a place is by their al pastor. Tacos were a great size. The quesadillas were huge. For $8.50 there was plenty of filling and also came with rice and beans. The one negative that I have, it was hot inside. I did see the thermostat and it said it was 78, even though the air was set to 65. Looks like they may have had some issues. We'll definitely be back though. Update: went back again today. They had tamales as a special. The tamale was great, but it had a salad and sour cream on it. That was weird to us. Next time we'll order without but the tamale was good. Also, AC issue was fixed! Came here with my girlfriend and mom, when my gf ordered a burrito, she asked for the lettuce and tomatoes on the side, the waiter replied with an attitude that "we dont do that." I got the chicken nachos, it was alot of food, but all you taste is cilantro and theres not enough contrasting flavors. It all tasted the same, like a big creamy cilantro mush. I've eaten here before and the tacos have always been pretty, but they lack flavor! My order is always sans cilantro because it tastes like soap, but that shouldn't affect flavor. The al Pastor tacos are topped with fresh pineapple but the meat itself is bland. I wanted to try something different, so I also ordered 2 shrimp, 1 pollo, 1 asada. They're all perfectly topped with onion, but the shrimp tacos have mango salsa and cheese. I'm a traditionalist so if I'm ordering authentic tacos, I don't want to see cheese. The chicken is delicious. It's not overcooked and has decent flavor, but their rojo sauce is complementary. Price wise, this place is a little higher than other taquerias. I'd assume it's from the fresh ingredients. IMO that isn't worth the price hike because the flavor isn't there. Think of it as slightly Americanized authentic tacos. At the register, there was a sign they had chicken and pork tamales (on Saturday). I consider myself a tamale aficionado, so I ordered 4 pork. I was SO excited because I haven't had a tamale fix in a while. I drove all the way home only to find the tamales were topped with a bunch of crap. It looked like taco salad with lettuce, tomato slices, avocado slices, and crema. The only thing I would've eaten is the lettuce. Traditional tamales come plain with rojo or verde salsa, depending on the filling. That's why I didn't know to order them plain. When I drove all the way back to get it fixed it shouldn't have been a surprise. I didn't even see tamales under all that stuff until the man told me. I wanted him to remake my order and felt he got a little upset. Believe me, I would've loved not wasting gas and hauling ass to make it back before they close. Taste wise, the tamales weren't that great. There was some heat from the pork but no flavor, and the masa was very dry. Each tamale was $2.75. The tortillas are homemade and delicious, but in my opinion they're not crispy enough. I like to put them on top of the skillet with a little butter to crisp them up first. Service was friendly, but the food isn't enough for me to come back. I think I'll stick to the taqueria right down the road. They always get it right and the food is always delicious. read more

First time here and I have to tell you, the tacos are legit. Brought mom and my sister. They had steak tacos, a carne asada burrito and I had the carne asada torta. Food was excellent! Some of the best tacos I've had since moving to Georgia. I brought home some tamales that were on special and I'm looking forward to having them for dinner at work.
