Smoked Chicken Sandwich, Roasted Root Veggie Salad with extra chicken
    Deyshawn B.

Great service and great food for a more than fair price. We really enjoyed the friendly workers and unique food combinations. The fries were amazing and the smoked chicken sandwich had lots of flavor. This place is a place for everyone and definitely a judgement free zone. Pay it forward and enjoy a great experience!

The Table is celebrating their 10th anniversary in the Portland neighborhood. Prices are modest and you get a lot of food for the money. Normally I don't like ham all that much but the ham and havarti cheese sandwich looked promising. It was very good and huge. My wife and I had leftovers. We also shared a basket of fries for $3 that was hot, fresh and more than enough for two. Service was great and and I also had coffee and a refill. It's really quite a bargain.

I stopped in here today for lunch. I got a smoked chicken sandwich with no onions and unfortunately it had onions on it. The sandwich itself was $8 for the chicken sandwich: it was decent nothing great . I waited in line for a good amount of time and finally got my to go order. The ambiance is cool but the area is not good. Be careful going into the place and getting your food

DDD stop with a pay what you can approach. As a social worker I just love this and tipped big today as all tips are donations to the non-profit that go to help many. Food was good. Service was good. Not open often so we were glad to catch it open today.

Strawberry-Asparagus Salad and Soup of the Day (gumbo)

A clean, lovely space. Everyone was extremely welcoming and service was spot on. I had the Strawberry-Asparagus salad (strawberries, asparagus, and manchego cheese on local lettuces in strawberry vinaigrette with chia seeds), along with a cup of the soup of the day, which was a rich, thick Gumbo. Honestly my only complaint is the hours. They are only open M-F from 11-3. I was only able to come here because I met a client nearby and it just so happened to wrap up at noon. Please consider offering a weekend day, Table, I think you will find many of us wage slaves who are M-F workers would love a chance to come here and try your amazing food! I know I am looking forward to the next weekday I have off!

Smoked Chicken Sandwich and Parmesan fries

This place is nicely tucked away in Portland. Very nice place on the inside and I love its cause. The service was fast and easy. The menu is not very big so shouldn't take you long to pick. It doesn't take them long to bring the food out. If you are looking for a lunch spot to go to that is quick, this is it. I ordered the smoked chicken sandwich that is on the menu all the time. Some of the other items change out with the season. The chicken sandwich was on jalapeño Bread with a bacon jam and ranch on the sandwich. The sandwich was very good. The jam was not a strong flavor so was surprised by that. If I didn't know it was there, I wouldn't have known because it didn't taste like much. I also got the Parmesan fries. I will definitely be back. Service was great, fast, great prices and decent prices. For 2 people, we got tea, sandwich and fries, it was only around $27 as suggested on the menu. That's not bad and it was quality food.

The Table, located in Louisville's Portland neighborhood, has a rustic/eclectic vibe with natural textures, exposed brick and ceilings, black and white photos, Mason jar glasses, and one of the most unique restaurant concepts in Louisville. We walked in after 2:30 this afternoon (they close at 3:00) and were warmly welcomed and guided to a table. It was still bustling, but not loud. Let's Stay Together, by Al Green, was playing. They promptly provided a high chair, coloring books, and crayons for my children. This is undoubtedly a family-friendly atmosphere. The service is some of the warmest I've encountered in any area restaurant. The Table has seasonal menus offering locally grown food that is accessible to everyone. This inclusive concept allows patrons to pay it forward by volunteering with time and services as payment (pay what you can), paying the suggested meal price (plus some if desired), or by volunteering your time to "pay" for a neighbor to eat. We ordered the following: Meatloaf Sliders- (2) Sandwich meatloaf topped with pimento cheese, house pickles and greens on brioche slider buns Parmesan Fries A (side-size) Watermelon Salad basil watermelon, cucumber, red onions, peppered farmer's cheese, local lettuces, cilantro lime vinaigrette (also available in a larger portion) A (side-size) Summer Squash Salad charred squash, sun-dried tomatoes, sunflower seeds on fresh greens with roasted eggplant dressing (also available in a larger portion) And TWO Kids' Classic Grilled Cheese w/ a side of fruit. Today's fruit was oranges. It's hard not to get caught up in the seemingly rare concept of The Table, but it does not diminish what they offer. Our family of four, at full price, spent $20.14 on lunch (before tip). Wenda, our server, was exceptional, friendly, and personable. She spoke kindly to our children. She encouraged us to take our time, despite the restaurant closing. Every employee we encountered was hospitable. The ambiance was uplifting. Our meal was a crowd-pleaser. I appreciate the availability of healthy food options at cost below that of a fast food drive-thru. I often see inquiries about the best places to get salads...take note. The roasted eggplant dressing was extraordinary. The combination of watermelon, basil, and peppered farmer's cheese, tasted fresh and refined. The pimento cheese and house pickles on the meatloaf were exceptional. I found myself dabbing my fries in the roasted eggplant dressing as to not miss a drop. If you work downtown, or if you don't, this social entrepreneurship (non-profit) offers guests an opportunity to dine with a purpose. If you're a Louisvillian, patronizing The Table is a chance to give love and build relationships in our community. As an added bonus, the food is phenomenal and served at a value that makes giving back easy. Raising your standard of living while simultaneously raising your standard of giving? That's a win-win situation in my book.

    Smoked Veggie Pepperoni Sandwich

Omg, new favorite lunch spot for sure. I've been wanting to try this place for over 2 years but the days/hours of operation always didn't seem to be right when I was thinking about it. But today I got there and holy crap I have been missing out. I ordered the Veggie Pepperoni sandwich and the watermelon salad. They were both sooooo good. The smoked vegan pepperoni is so flavorful, the bread so soft and the red pepper cashew cheese so smooth and creamy. The watermelon salad was so fresh and crisp with an amazing flavorful dressing. And to top it all off when I went inside to pickup I was greeted with amazing smiling faces and great customer service! That's not something you see too many places anymore. Awesome place! Can't wait to try more!

I ordered the shrimp and grits, and without exaggeration, they were the best I've ever had. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the balance of textures throughout the dish was incredible. Every bite had the perfect amount of crunch, flavor, and toppings. Nothing felt overwhelming or out of place. It was one of those meals where you find yourself slowing down just to enjoy every bite. Even the water deserves a mention. It was clean, crisp, and refreshing. If it came straight from the tap, I would have never known. It's a small detail, but it speaks to the overall dining experience when even something as simple as water stands out. The service was great, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. It's easy to see why this restaurant has built such a strong reputation. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 comes down to accessibility. As a person with a disability, parking can make or break a dining experience. Unfortunately, there was no handicap parking available, and there were no nearby parking spots open when I arrived. I ultimately had to park in a hotel lot about a block away, which cost $25 for just two hours. Not only was the cost frustrating, but the additional distance was challenging given my mobility needs. The food was phenomenal and absolutely worth trying, but I do hope accessibility becomes part of the conversation for future guests. For those without mobility concerns, this may not be an issue, but for disabled patrons, it's something important to consider before visiting.

The Corner restaurant is smack in the middle of Whiskey Row and you won't be disappointed when I tell they sell over 90 different bourbons. The interior is an eclectic mix of tables, chairs, sofas and seating nooks. Some of their space is shared with the Aloft Louisville Downtown hotel, a Marriott boutique hotel. We grabbed two seats at the bar and had two cocktails and two salads for lunch. Our drinks were a Pomegranate Mule ($13.00) with Pomegranate, ginger beer, vodka, and lime, and a regular Margarita. I had a Chicken Cobb Salad ($15.00) with chicken, romaine, deviled eggs, avocado, charred sweet corn, cherry tomato, radish, pickled onion, sunflower seeds, ranch, lemon drizzle. It was excellent, but the Deviled Eggs were missing and replaced by avocado slices. My traveling companion had a Classic Caesar ($13.00) with Romaine, Caesar dressing, parmesan croutons, and crispy kale. She added Chicken for a $6.00 upcharge. The Corner is "dog friendly" and we were thoroughly entertained by the antics of a Great Dane and Bulldog as they interacted. Our server was fantastic, and I'm sorry I missed her name, although I did take a few photos of her mixing and shaking some cocktails.

"Doctor, doctor, give me the news I've got a bad case of…read morelovin' you" (Robert Palmer) Doc Crow's two locations (Indianapolis and Louisville) specialize in Southern cuisine, so you'll see pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, gumbo, pulled pork, brisket, ribs, okra, and jambalaya on the menu. Four of us had an excellent experience for our dinner in Louisville, and besides the food, a lot of that experience was due to our server, Julie. She was great, super friendly and professional, and expertly answered a ton of Bourbon-related questions from my Bourbon loving friend. My wife and I dove into the Southern theme and had a Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16), Southern Colada ($16), Fried Green Tomatoes ($10), and a Southern Gumbo ($10) for dinner. I ordered the Fried Gren Tomatoes to share with the table, and they were wonderful - "Five full moon green tomatoes fried in cornmeal and panko, topped with fresh chives and served with Doc's Remoulade". They were light as a feather, most definitely non-greasy and had a great crunch from the panko and cornmeal. My Southern Gumbo (A hearty stew filled with andouille sausage, chicken and vegetables in savory Cajun broth served over rice. Served with cornbread) was excellent. Great flavor, great spice, plenty of sausage and chicken, and excellent accompaniments in the rice and cornbread. And how could I not mention my Southern Colada, with Michter's US*1 Sour Mash, Pineapple Juice & Coconut. It was quite a bit stronger than any Colada I ever had, but I guess that can be expected when you use an 86-proof small batch Kentucky whiskey in your Colada. Of course, I loved it. This was our second visit to Doc Crow. We were there a few days ago as the first stop on our Louisville food tour and enjoyed a delicious bowl of shrimp and grits. The Doc sure treated us well. PRO TIP Be sure to check out the Doc's jaw dropping collection of bourbon bottles that seem to dominate the various rooms wherever you look.

The restaurant includes a long row of bar seating that extends to the other end of the restaurant, so there was no problem for me to find a seat on a busy day. I ordered the Mac n cheese and braised greens, and the Mac n cheese was really good and creamy. The braised greens were just okay, it wasn't the best greens I've had and it could use extra flavor. I don't know if this is a thing they do at Doc Crow's, but in my opinion the bartender excessively kept asking me what I wanted even while I was still looking at the menu. This definitely frustrated me since it was clear that I wasn't ready yet. I think she should have done a better job reading my cues to figure out when I am ready to order.

It doesn't feel like Louisville at all. The place was busy. Atmosphere was inviting. I could definitely hang out there while I eat. I'll try some more of their dishes but I do have a few things to note. The cost: It's downtown so an expectation of higher prices is expected. They do give you a decent portion size but with other options and the ultimate option of bringing your lunch with you, it's going to be hard for me to revisit this place in the future. I do hope I can give their breakfast a try if I'm down there early enough. Even with their breakfast, it better be DOUBLE GOOD because the PNC building has breakfast nearby and you can have an excellent breakfast there for 5-10 bucks. The food: Achiote Chicken Taco Bowl - White rice. Achiote Chicken Thigh. Diced tomato. Monterrey jack cheese. Sour Cream. Tortilla Chips. Avo smash. Cilantro. Charred pepper ranch. It was good but nothing really stuck out about it. Bites had flavor but eventually it turned into a bland dish. I ended up saving it for later time leftovers... but when trying to eat it later on in the day, it had that same bland taste that developed. I think the biggest issue with it was all the smashed avocado. It definitely didn't need so much. It ended up overpowering all the other flavors. It's a good spot to change it up from other options downtown but I can't rave about it until I come across my 'go-to' dish here at some point.

The decor is quite unique, full of character, and the history adds to the experience. It feels like you're eating in a place that actually has stories to tell rather than another cookie-cutter restaurant. The food was good overall. The wings were excellent and definitely the highlight of the meal. I tried the lime sauce, which was good, though it tasted much more like a ranch-based sauce than I expected. My burger was cooked well, flavorful, and delicious... though I was disappointed to not see the caramelizes onions promised on the menu on it. Instead there was a sad looking single piece of raw onion. Oh well. The sandwich on rye was just okay--not bad, but it didn't stand out. Fries were good and perfectly seasoned. Service was friendly and attentive, although things moved a little slower than expected during our visit. Now for the bathroom area... let's just say the journey to get there felt like the opening scene of a horror movie where someone says, "I'll be right back." It definitely adds to the pub's quirky charm, but I do wish that area--and the restaurant in general--were a bit cleaner. Overall, Troll Pub is worth a visit for the atmosphere, history, and great wings. Come for the unique experience, stay for the burger, and maybe bring a flashlight for the bathroom adventure.
