Awesome coffee & Lamingtom! Had to get a second! I never knew what it was. Just in case. A lamington is an Australian cake made from squares of butter cake or sponge cake coated in an outer layer of chocolate sauce and rolled in desiccated coconut. The thin mixture is absorbed into the outside of the sponge cake and left to set, giving the cake a distinctive texture. A common variation has a layer of cream or strawberry jam between two lamington halves.[1][2]

I love cafes with a cultural twist and if you are in Etobicoke and by Lakeshore Blvd you need to swing over to Sydney cafe. This is cafe that serves up Australian inspired desserts and coffee and also feature products from down under. I tried the Cold brew with a toffee flavour shot and the Tim tam cake. The coffee is definitely going to keep you going and has more of a deeper taste. The Tim tam cake paired well as it was rich and quite filing. I felt teleported to Australia when I went inside and I love that it is not too far from the water. Make sure to check it out if you are nearby!

Nice place. Very good service. Very good pastries. A few tables to seat in a nice atmosphere.

I was searching for a coffee shop in the area and the name of this place drew attention and immediately after reading about it - decided to go and I am very glad I did, I got to taste the way they make coffee in Australia! The baristas are really friendly and also can have a conversation.. also in the few minutes I stayed, I noticed that there are lot of Australians that have been there and also nice to see the baked goods. To be honest the cakes looked so good but I could only try one - pistachio rose cake which was so delicious! I am going to try Lamington next time.. glad this will be to go shop since I am moving to this area in March I can't wait to go back!

I came here 3 separate times during my 2-night stay in Etobicoke. I loved The Sydney Grind that much. A few things I loved: 1. Their simple, minimalistic decor. Everything seemed so clean, I was almost scared to spill my coffee. They also have plenty of tables, chairs, and outlets so that you can get some work done if need be. 2. Their delicious coffee. Oat milk lattes for the win. Toronto coffee shops seem to be into the oat milk latte trend and I am allllll here for it. The baristas also suggested macadamia nut milk which I had never tried before but now I am in love with. YUM. 3. Their YUMMY banana bread. I got this all 3 times I came in. I tried it both cold and warmed up, and warmed up is the way to go. I wish I could have a lifetime supply of this banana bread. I really do. 4. Friendly service. This coffee shop was opened up by Australians who wanted to serve up a damn good cup of coffee. Because if you didn't know, Australians take their cup o' joe very very seriously. All 3 times I came in, the lovely baristas were super friendly and served up some damn good coffee. There's a reason I came back 3 days in a row. If you want a good cup of caffeine (or some delicious banana bread), get yourself to The Sydney Grind ASAP.

Dropped by when I needed a caffeine fix (really badly!). What a gem! Had the double espresso and the lamington which I hadn't heard of till that point and quite delicious. Just the right amount of sweetness. The neighbourhood is lucky to have such a lovely cafe. Warm and confortable atmosphere. Good for working with large tables, WiFi testing at 157/44 and many electrical power outlets. I think it's a parent hangout too. Checks all the boxes. Recommended.

If there is one thing that Aussies (especially those from Sydney and Melbourne) are snobby and in the know about... it's coffee. At least this is what I was told by Yelp pals from the land down under over the years. So imagine my piqued interest when I came across The Sydney Grind, and Australian inspired coffee shop and bakery in a local community paper for the Lakeshore communities of Mimico and Longbranch. Located just east of Islington and Lakeshore, The Sydney Grind stands out like a beacon of white light in an area that... is still "on the comeback". It's clean. It's white. It's bright and the inside modern and minimalist. There is an abundance of seating here, far more than you would expect from a local Coffee shop, with paired seating at the front running along a long built in bench, a communal table in the middle and then a rear private area with an additional 8-10 seats. The best part about this rear area is that it overlooks an open window into the kitchen where all the baked goods are made in house daily. With regards to the baked goods, they have a crazy assortment, from common items like banana bread and cookies, to Australian favs like fairy cake, and even biscotti - which, while not Australian necessarily, are an homage to the business that used to inhabit this location. Lastly, the coffee, wow. They use propeller beans here and I had two caffeinated beverages while I was here, an Americano and a iced coffee (iced Americano). This stuff was STRONG, I had the caffeine junky jitters all day. Wow. But the taste was smooth and crisp with no residual after taste. Amazing. I'm so happy that a new cafe opened near my hood especially one as unique and well executed as The Sydney Grind. Expect to see me here on the regular.

Building is actually gray in colour.

I really liked this indie coffee shop! This strip of New Toronto definitely needs something like this. Both interior and exterior is newly renovated and painted in light colours. Although narrow, interior is actually quite deep. There's quite a bit of seating! Barista was friendly. Baked goods looked fresh. I got the Lamington and piece was quite generous. I only ate a coupla bites as I was full. Iced Americano was delish! Too bad this place was kinda far 'cause it would be ideal for those work-from-home days!

I've always wanted to see DECENT shops popup in this neighbourhood, lived here a few years and it's a great stretch, Kipling to royal York. Lake shore has MUCH potential, unfortunately its still mostly crummy shops and many vacancies. Maybe 5,10 years from now it GROWS. Sydney Grind is a great addition. Not the best flat white, still good. This area needed a good coffee shop. Interior is clean and modern, plus 2 nice washrooms. Hope this place sticks around!

    Such cute inside decor!

My new favourite cafe for baked goods. I work in the area,…read moreso I'm always looking for new bakeries and pastries to try, to enjoy with my coffee during my break. Black goat is no stranger to me. I visited this cafe only a handful of times more than 5 years ago, as I was not working in the area yet but would come down for meetings. During this time I distinctly remember they had an Oreo cheesecake cookie that was aaaaamazing. So amazing, I never forgot about it, 5+ years later lol. Well I came back this year, sad to find out they were no longer selling it. So on my first visit, I decided just to get a chocolate chip cookie. To my surprise, I actually really liked it. I'm very picky with my chocolate chip cookies. The bonus was the price point. It was only $2 something for a delicious, generously sized cookie. On one of my most recent visits a conversation was sparked with the owner. I thought it was appropriate as I was in there so often, I should at least learn her name lol. I learned so much from her and all the struggles she faces as a small business during these times of COVID and inflation. The owner is soooo nice and sweet. Okay this review is getting so long lol let me tell you about some of the other treats. Which again, her price points are so refreshing during these expensive times. Banana chocolate chip muffin- I don't like these, but I love them at black goat. The muffin top has the slightest crunch and they use chopped Belgian chocolate instead of chocolate chips. All this makes it's so delicious and so different than any other banana chocolate muffin I've tried. Carrot muffin- again that slight crunch on the muffin top is such a winner. And the muffin is not too sweet, like those store bought one. It tastes fresh, like your actually getting a serving of vegetables lol making you feel even better about eating a muffin. New menu item, croissants - so wonderful! It has the perfect slightly crunchy outer layer while the inside is so soft and all around buttery. AND great news, the Oreo cheesecake cookies are coming back this week!! Back by popular demand, she informed me that these were coming back, as she was rolling out a whole load of new bakery items. (Brownies, hello dolly bars, other cookies) I'm sooooo excited, take all my money! Hot tip: all baked goods are 50% off after 1:30! This place is going to be a problem because I was already here 3 times in one week....even twice in one day. Hahaha. I love supporting local :)

I found parking right in front of the cafe. It's diagonal, pull-in street parking. I walked in. It's a push to get through the door. I was immediately greeted by a friendly, accommodating staff member. I wanted a hot chocolate and asked about the four different ounce sizes. He showed me all the paper white cups. I went with the second-largest size. I also asked that I get soy or some non-dairy beverage added to it. Done! I have a weakness for baked goods. This cafe has vegan options, including pumpkin vegan muffins during my visit. Everything looked so goods, from brownies, to cookies. I saw the large cookie jars staring at me. My gosh, each cookie is larger than the palm of my hand and I have big hands! I wanted a s'mores one so badly. You basically take the tongs, grab your cookie, and place it in a paper bag. I got my hot chocolate and cookie that came to $9. It's not cheap, but it's fair trade goods. I expect to pay slightly more. There is a draft in the cafe, so the merchant bill that I had ripped off the machine before getting my bill blew off the counter and onto the floor. I let the man know, which he appreciated. You can pay by cash, and debit and credit cards. I also provided a tip. As usual, it's up to you. It was a bit of a challenge with full hands to get out of the cafe when you need to pull on the door handle to get out. Luckily, I put my hot chocolate on the bar-like table, pulled the door open, used my foot to keep it open, grabbed my drink, and moved quickly through the door. Problem solved! The hot chocolate is dark chocolate. I happen to love it. If you are more of a milk hot chocolate lover, you might find the hot chocolate to be missing sugar and perhaps taste bitter. I loved it. There was probably more soy in my drink than there should have been, but it was perfect for my less sugary needs. The s'mores cookie is extremely yummy! OMG, if I lived in the neighbourhood, I would buy the jar of cookies every day. It was buttery, chocolatey, and marshmallowy (I know, not a word, but whatever) delicious. It paired nicely with my hot chocolate, as it had slightly more sugar. I would come back just for this cookie alone. There were plenty of seats to sit down. If you sit by the bar-like area with stools, you get a nice view of the area. People-watching is casual in this cafe. It has a nice vibe. You can get a number of fair-trade coffee varieties. I am personally not a coffee connoisseur, but I appreciated both the selection and the cause. I like this cafe. I'd come back to give the muffins and more drink items a taste the next time I'm here.
