Anderson seemed like a food desert and maybe it still is but this place gives respite to the weary traveller not wanting to be a chain eater. I got a half tuna melt sandwich and a cup of spinach mushroom soup. Tuna melt was hot/fresh, no problems. Soup was understated but I liked the mushrooms. I got two cookies and they give you a free slice of cake! The cookies were nothing special but I'd come back for a slice of chocolate cake fo sho. Standard dining area, nothing unique. It left a strange "metalic" aftertaste in my mouth, not to mention the crazy amount of gristle it had in it. My stomach felt off for at least 3 days after eating the salad. Stopping here from out of town for the first time. Quaint establishment with a decent amount of seating for anyone wanting to sit and enjoy their food and dessert. Upon entering, we were greeted in a friendly manner and then helped with details of various things to choose when we told them we were first-timers. The deli menu, in my opinion, is very fairly priced for what they give you, including: a sandwich, pickle, chips, and a small sample of cake. There are many options to choose from! Everything we ordered and tried was amazing! Mississippi Mud was delicious. Also, on Tuesdays & and Thursdays, are their free to try specialty days! Today is was a Strawberry Delight. And if I had a cooler to make it on our journey back home, we would have gotten a whole one to go most definitely! I'm in town for my birthday. Didn't come to town FOR my birthday, but my birthday just happened to fall on one of the days we were in town visiting family. A lovely friend surprised me with a cute little strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting from the Sweetery. We cut a few slices and I took a bite. This cake was absolutely delicious! Probably one of the freshest tasting cakes I have EVER had. It was a beautiful little cake as well. Unfortunately I took a photo of the cake after I had cut into it. I ordered lunch for delivery from The Sweetery. I have eaten there several times and the food/service great. I can't tell you about the lunch I ordered because I never received it. I called them and all the lady could tell me she had a picture from Chow Now. I contacted Chow Now but they don't answer the phone. They said it was delivered to the office on the property but no one there ever saw that. The sad part I had just gotten out of the hospital and was unable to make myself lunch. Very disappointed. I ordered a piece of the quiche that was really bad. The crust was gummy and the filling was tasteless. The quiche had not been heated through and was cold in spots. It had very obviously been nuked. My husband's sandwich was average which is why I give them 2 stars. If it was based on the quiche alone it would be a one. Just a thought with restaurants charging so much more than they have in the past you would think they would make sure what they serve is up to standard. my wife and I came in today to get a cheesecake for her birthday. No one said hello instead one lady that works there walked up and said do y'all know what y'all want and I said well give us just a second we're looking at the cakes and cheesecakes well, I thought y'all would already know what y'all want by now is what the lady said back, my wife shook her head said just get the cheesecake and let's leave. I really like their cakes and cheesecakes but the service is horrible and they just try to rush you out. I bought a "small" strawberry cake as a birthday cake. For a "small" cake, it was actually really big and probably big enough for 6 people. I'm ashamed to say I bought it for 2 people and it was so delicious we nearly finished the whole thing in one weekend. Oh man was it good! They also wrote a message on the cake for free and the cake itself cost $14. Not bad at all! There was ample parking and the staff were very friendly and bubbly. I also bought a small zucchini bread. I have lived in Anderson for 14 years, and this place has been here for as long as I can remember, yet, regrettably, this was my first visit. I had always heard my friends talk about this place but I never got around to it, but now let's get to the nitty gritty. First off, the place is spotless, well managed, and the staff is very friendly, 5/5 Secondly, the baked goods were in great quantity and looked nice (although I could only testify as to the taste of a small slice of chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting, which was only OK, the lemon bar, red velvet cookie, and cream cheese brownie) the taste was pretty much on par, 5/5. Third, the sandwiches were really nice in variety, my friend got the hero which he loved and I got the turkey club on whole wheat (which was toasted to perfection) with Mayo, honey mustard, bacon, tomato, and lettuce (effectively throwing health out the window) the turkey had amazing flavor and the bacon was crispy and nicely cooked (a pet peeve of mine, undercooked bacon) the tomatoes were fresh and the lettuce wasn't wilted (another pet peeve, wilted lettuce) it came with plain Lay's but the also had a couple other choices for a $1.00 (or so) upcharge. The Sweetery is an Anderson tradition that has been serving the area for over 30 years. They have all the products a full-service bakery offers, available in delicious, homemade goodness. Cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, etc. They also offer delicious deli sandwiches at lunchtime ($6.95) and hot deli sandwichs ($7.10 - $8.25) as well (cheese extra). Salads are also on the menu starting at $6.50. The lunch business is relatively new for the Sweetery (past several years) and people have really responded favorably to it. I have two personal favorites - the Red Velvet Cake ($23) and the Italian Creme Cake ($27). These are our go-to cakes for birthdays and special occasions, although the Strawberry Cake ($23) is a close runner-up. I have been in the Sweetery many times over the years and I have never had a bad experience with the folks who work there. Everyone has always been helpful and friendly. This little bakery has been featured in Good Housekeeping Magazine, Southern Living Magazine, and Cooking With Paula Deen, so they may be small but they are big on talent and big on taste! Staff seemed nice but I had to explain what I wanted 4 or 5 times before they understood what I was asking for (chocolate cake with coconut flavored frosting) as it wasn't something they notmally did. They said they could give me normal buttercreme frosting with coconut shavings on top which was acceptable but when I got the cake a few days later and tried to eat it the frosting tasted like a bottle of almond extract and nobody wanted to eat it especially my wife whose birthday it was. I wanted to take it back but the damage was done and it wasn't that expensive so in the trash it went. I will try another bakery next time. read more

I can only speak for The Sweetery's cookies, but they are delicious. Soft but not too chewy, and I tried a couple different kinds (the chocolate chip/brownie one was my favorite) without any complaints. If you're a cookie lover, I definitely suggest trying these. read more

By looking at the website it looked like they sold slices of cake and so I went there to satisfy my sweet tooth. All I saw in the case were whole cakes and I asked about the slices. She said, "oh yes we have two cakes that we can slice for you." I chose the red velvet. After I got home to eat it, it was very stale and crumbly. So I guess instead of the sweetery selling slices of delicious fresh cakes, they sell slices of cakes that are soon to be thrown away because they're stale. Before charging customers o or $4for stale slice of cake at least tell them what they're buying. I will not be returning to this location. read more

We WERE good customers of the Sweetery, UNTIL now!!! My father passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1. A family friend brought my mom a Sweetery cake on a Sunday. My mom and I decided to have a piece on Monday night. We took a couple of bites and decided it was not up to par of their usual cakes. It was dry, heavy, and gritty. On Tuesday AM we decided to take it back and hopefully exchange it. We walked in, told them what was going on. They took the cake to the back of the bakery, cut a piece, and came back to us. They ( the owner and a worker) said, "This cake is fine. That's how it's supposed to be. This is one of our most popular cakes." ( (Their tone was as dry as their cake!) That was it. No apology or accommodations. They kept the cake. My bereaving mom scolded them and we walked out. DO NOT PATRON THIS PLACE! I've found that this is not the only time The Sweetery has not "made it right"! Sad! read more
