I not only love the selection of items available here, but I also love the customer service provided by the friendliest staff. This location is wonderful, has lots of parking space and I also love the quality of their fresh baked goods. I mostly love to shop from that department since their baked goods make the perfect and easiest snacks and/or breakfast. The best part? Finding healthy and organic options. They've got fresh seafood. Shelves are full and I love the little details around the store, such as the maple leaf added to the Canadian items. I love being able to support local and finding staff picks for when I'm not sure what to buy. I love their cheddar scones and their raspberry loaf. I also got their new bake at home product to try and can't wait to see how that goes. read more

Watch out for careless mistakes at the cashier, they can weight things wrong and over charge you.

I used to shop at this store often as I lived in the area. We moved away and rarely go, but I was in the neighbourhood so I stopped in. There were a lot of empty spaces on shelves, and the prices on quite a few items were too high for me to justify purchasing. I did grab a steak, AAA Angus beef, and a handful of produce. I was embarrassed by the high cost of my handful of items, but reminded myself that it would all be top notch. The steak was off. Very off. Completely grey on the underside and slimy. We even tried to cook a piece and the stench confirmed it. Don't think I will go back again. read more

Love this place! The staff are knowledgable and friendly - they even pack up your bags at check out. Excellent selection of gluten options, they have a GF vegetable pakora that is out of this world (tamarind sauce sold separately but totally worth it). A wonderful store in the neighbourhood to get organic, local products at good prices! It's clear that they care for their employees, and have their staff and customer's health as a top priority in the store. Ignore the recent negative reviews from anti-maskers - this store has unfortunately suffered from an employee getting sick before, and I'm sure they're all working extremely hard and trying their best to ensure it doesn't happen again. This has become our go to store for produce and fish. Really nice selection of fruit and vegetables, sometimes less expensive that non organic food and far tastier. You need to go with an open mind as the prices of produce fluctuate greatly depending on the supply that week. The fish counter is small but they have amazing quality fish, we have never been disappointed. We have not tried the meat yet. Finally the parking is large and conveniently located next to the store. read more

Even though we live in the East end, we take the drive for pick-up (during Covid) at the Sweet Potato. The website is easy to navigate and has everything we need, including remedies and home products. The produce is fresher than most and the prices are reasonable. Also there is a new chef there and the prepared food is absolutely delicious! On Thanksgiving we ordered pre-prepared dinners that were so yummy and extra baked goods to die for! The staff are really nice and friendly! We will keep driving, unless you want to open up in the East end! read more

This store is awesome! It's actually the very first grocery store I went into IRL during the pandemic (last Spring, after emerging from self-imposed xxtreme grocery carefulness) and had a very relaxing experience, as I (and my roommate and partner) had before, and have had many times since. Despite often shopping at slightly more downscale/budget stores, I specifically chose Sweet Potato because I felt safe going there. The aisles are also wider than at some other stores, which I think is particularly useful for social distancing. I'm sorry to have seen that some of your employees had to go through such an infuriating experience with that idiotic, condescending, self-satisfied fool that some other reviewers have already mentioned. Super impressed with how it was handled, but as someone who's worked a lot of retail, man that sucks and I hope you all got some TLC that day. read more

updating my review because of service and prices. also they do not honor the Canadian Scanner Price Accuracy code. If the price was wrong they give you the difference. Also they have a number of incorrect prices so be sure to check your receipt. They are great about carrying local items and speciality items which is welcomed and they ethically supply their foods and products. They hire lots of staff but it's mostly to run the store and never seem much trained in customer service. Recently there were two of us waiting to check out and only one cashier while the other cashier just walked around doing other things but never indicating she was ready to assist the next person in line. then during the check out the cashier left and went to the other side to do something while I waited to be able to pay. So great products but not great service. Prices tend to be high and often more than 2 dollars higher per item as compared to a local grocery store where applicable. And always get your receipt and check it. read more

I started shopping here during Covid, even though it's not close to me because other health stores were not supplying fresh quality produce. TSP never disappoints me and the staff is helpful and friendly. Everything is organic and the prepared foods are so good I buy extra and freeze some. crazy awesome store. incredible fresh produce mostly organic and often local. we spend hundreds of dollars a week here. prices are fair especially for produce. probably the best place to buy organic produce in toronto. the new store is massive. my only complaint is that i can't recall ever having the same cashier twice in a row. they seem to have major staff turnover. the old location they had a steady amazing staff the we got to know. also just the other day they shortened store hours a bit without notifying us. first world problems! the sweet potato was really great during the pandemic. they made us feel safe. they're a big part of this neighborhood. we started going to them before they were a store when they were doing a weekend market in high park! read more

This is an organic food store in the junction area. The selection is limited and the food prices are very high. I noticed that the price of olive oil (500 ml) was 5$ higher than another store for the same brand, exactly similar product. We bought some vegetables which were fresh. The herbs were flavourful. But the prices were high for the same/similar quality produce. Plus the selections were very limited. We were looking for 4-5 things that you would expect to find at a gourmet store but only one of them was available. read more

I'm living in a Gluten Free world and the Sweet Potato is a great place to shop for groceries that I can eat. They used to be the only location where I could find Bob's Red Mills Gluten Free All Purpose Flour. There is now one other location in the Junction area (that I know of) that sells Bob's flour, but the Sweet Potato is the only store that carries a wide variety of other Bob's products for gluten free baking. So Bob is the reason why I first begun to visit this store, but they're not the reason why I've stayed. Every time I visit, I've found some new and exciting gluten free product that I'll want to try. They currently have pizza/bagel dry mix sitting on their shelves that I'm eagerly looking forward to try. I really miss having a bagel for breakfast. They also gave back to me my love of waffles. Nature's Path gluten free waffles taste just like Eggo's! This might be a, "so what?" moment for those who do not worry about gluten in their diet, but up until the past few years - *anything* made gluten free was guaranteed to have a chalky taste and crumble like dust before the first bite. Not fun, let me tell you. But thanks to Nature's Path, and the Sweet Potato for selling their product, I don't have to worry about tasting chalk and tricking myself into thinking, "mmm, this is good!", because it really *is*. So yes, I love the Sweet Potato, because they've helped me enjoy eating my favourite foods again. read more

I admit I'm an unrepentant hippie who gets most of my produce at farmers' markets and has panic attacks when forced to patronise the local Price Chopper. But Toronto has winter, and even the most committed locavore needs vitamin C (not to mention shampoo.) So I was delighted to find The Sweet Potato on a stretch of Dundas dominated by pawn shops and storefront churches until the neighbourhood had the good sense to lift the liquor prohibition imposed in 1904. The Sweet Potato is a small grocery store, not a health food store. This is part of what makes it so successful, as many health food stores are so packed with vitamins, smoothie mixes, and remedies of dubious effectiveness that they have no room for actual food. Not so with The Sweet Potato. There is an excellent selection of produce, dairy, cereal, grains, legumes, and baking products as well as small sections of personal care products, meat, and prepared food. I'm especially happy that I can get sheep's yogurt and milk here, as only a handful of places carry them. The prices here are very reasonable for organic and natural food. The house-roasted coffee is excellent, and comes in a variety of blends. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the hours are convenient. There have been a few times that they've been out of something I'm looking for, which isn't unusual when dealing with smaller suppliers. On the other hand, they usually have at least a few things on sale (Nature's Path Cereal for $1.99 and sheep's milk for $3.69 last time I was there). The surrounding neighbourhood is a haven of independent businesses selling natural and local food as well as the work of local artisans. No more Price Chopper at the Galleria Mall for me - I'm hopping on my bike for the 5 minute ride to The Sweet Potato. read more

The Sweet Potato and I - we have a good thing goin'. Two or three times a week, our worlds collide; just the perfect amount to keep our relationship fresh 'n relevant. You know, much like their GLORIOUS SELECTION OF PRODUCE. I'm a fervent supporter of farmers markets, but in this work-a-day world it is slightly difficult to manage a consistent market schedule (if they are not in your immediate vicinity). Lucky for ME (and also you), The Sweet Potato keeps a rainbow supply of bright, local plant edibles. They're priced to please, and just as farmer fresh as your mom. They stock mostly anything else a gal could need - nutritional yeast, hemp seeds, maca powder - you know, all that typical woman stuff. Many items are actually cheaper at Essence of Life, but due to my High Park transplant and EoL's earlier closing time, convenience wins. Also The Sweet Potato is cash registered by the sweetest of gals! They're open til 8pm (or 9pm, later in the week), which is wonderful for us folk who work til 7ish. read more

The Sweet Potato is an organic grocery store that functions like an ordinary, albeit small no-nonsense grocery store. If you are committed to organic shopping, The Sweet Potato has most everything you would need. If you just need to pick up some delicious produce, fresh coffee, or some salty snacks, you can do that too. While the prices may be a bit high, they actually seem reasonable for an organic market. Here are a few other things I really like about The Sweet Potato.... 1. A great variety of local cheese and dairy options. 2. A huge selection of coffee and tea. 3. Super fresh produce. AND THE BIG ONE.... No snobiness at all. None of this, "we are better than everyone, including our customers" attitude. In fact, someone usually asks me if they can help me. If they don't know, they ask someone else. While I don't always shop here, I have always had kind and friendly service. More places in Toronto could take lessons from The Sweet Potato. read more

This is a pretty decent grocery store. GREAT selection of produce that isn't crammed onto only one shelf, properly laid out, lots of stock, good space to walk around in the aisles and lots to choose from in terms of organic foods. The beauty section leaves something to be desired but then again, if you want beauty stuff, go to Kensington Market or Whole Foods. They have a good range of other sauces, tofus, and basically anything you can imagine. I find the prices quite decent too, for organic things. read more

After a year of living in this neighbourhood I'm upgrading the review to 5 stars. Steps away from the conventional no frills in Pacific you get the best of both worlds. I love coming in here to find a more cozier and friendly way to shop with much more diversity than No Frills. Produce is expensive but when they have sales they are much worth it. Keep an eye out by joining their email list. Organic milk and other dairy is very comparable and sometimes even cheaper. There is limited meats. Also they don't carry Rowe farm eggs (in my opinion one of the more affordable alternatives). Cashiers are always super friendly and will out in extra effort if you ask. read more

The Last Straw (or maybe not!) Thoroughly editing/slashing a bad review shared here because it was based on bad information. Everything that happened, happened at Qi on Roncesvalles. My mother swears she said Qi, I swear she said SP. One friend said to leave it because SP deserves a bad review, but I cannot in good conscience share what is undeserved from my own experiences. I still think Sweet Potato is overpriced; I still had a bad kombucha experience ; but I love their soups and because of my stupid listening skills, I have changed the rating to a 3 star experience. The Sweet Potato is such a great grocery store - produce is organic, fresh and very high quality. They have a wonderful selection of local and organic cheeses, eggs and other dairy (including vegan cheese) I love their selection of natural grocery items, including bulk. They have introduced very safe covid protocols which is very important to me - I feel safe when I shop there. They also have free parking. The prices are surprisingly good for an independent grocery shop with most items beating 'low cost' grocery shops. The staff are professional, accommodating and so helpful and friendly. Was always a take-out food & beer kinda guy, until early last month when I was diagnosed with MS. Have made some major changes in my eating habits since & went looking for a good place to get healthy organic food. My wife & I tried Organic Garage first, it was alright nothing bad to say about it, other then it's a little on the expensive side, and there wasn't a lot on sale. After that we have been to The Sweet Potato twice now & found it perfect for what we need. Both times a lot of what we needed was on sale, that's always nice to see they have good sales. The girl in the Apothecary shop attached was really nice, I told her I have MS & I have a lot of restrictions in my diet now & was looking for a new protein powder to put in my smoothies. She took the time to go through the protein powders with us, to find one that suits my needs ( hemp protein ) & told us how to make a nice bone broth in a slow cooker, something I also have to drink that daily now. We Found it to be a really great store, staff was friendly, my wife & I like it a lot. On a side note, organic food taste so much better then the garbage I used to eat, The Sweet Potato will definitely be our regular grocery store from now on. I scrolled through the reviews to see what other people had to say, all mostly positive. I did see one person gave this place a 1 star, curiousity got the better of me so I clicked on there profile & turns out 31 review later, they have given half of Toronto a 1 star including The Old Mill, so I'd take that with a grain of salt. Some people are just miserable & wanna see the world burn. The Sweet Potato was a nice experience shopping. This is the worst non-Asian supermarket that I've ever been to. Customer service was bad to start with, no staff wanted to do anything, just kept telling me to go to the Customer Service counter with no staff on duty. Then told me to tell a cashier to come over to the counter. Wow, I have that much power when people were in line to pay and I could tell the cashier to stop working there and came over? The vegetables and fruits that were on sale have already passed their prime. The avocados were black on the outside and very hard when squeezing them. The stalks of the romaine lettuce heart in a bag have rusted already. The expiry date for beef and pork was tomorrow. The expiry date of a big jar of mayo in the fridge was two weeks later. The shelf of the only normal tasting bread that's organic and gluten free were empty, the other brand tasted like saw dust. Some other dry products on the shelf have an expiry date within two weeks. The price of rapini, broccoli, garlic, ginger were very high. Non of the prepared food was gluten free. Definitely I wouldn't be shopping there again. Honestly, I loved this place when it was on Dundas. I frequently stopped to shop on my way home from work. The new store is bigger and more open, which is a huge plus. I have quite enjoyed going (slightly) out of my way to make shopping trips there. Some of the new, younger staff are very helpful and pleasant to talk to, which only improved the shopping experience. Until recently. I have witnessed on a couple of occasions a heavy set girl, I assume a manager or supervisor, what I consider verbally abusing some of the newer staff. The last time I witnessed this, early last week, she was laying into a young blond boy who had always been very friendly and helpful to me in the past. When I returned a few days later and inquired about him, I was informed he "no longer worked here". Hmmm ... This has totally turned me off the store. Even though it is more out of the way, I think I will be taking my business to Organic Garage in the future. read more

I tried this place out for the first time tonight. The prices were allot better then most grocery stores offering only Organic. The meat selection was really nice, clean and organized. The store it self was really clean and had a ton of sales going on. The sale prices were all decent, $2.00 off, 25% off extra. I left with 4 full shopping bags and the bill was under $50. The selection was pretty nice too, I found allot of new things. The store was great, now the staff lol They legit couldn't be bothered, I asked someone for help and they looked like I asked them to give blood lol The only person in the entire store that actually looked friendly and like they wanted to be there was the butcher. This has become such a staple for me. Some weeks I'll go to The Sweet Potato everyday, sometimes to pick up some groceries, other times just for a bag of sweet potato chips. It still surprises me just how much stuff they have, from candy, to treats, to nuts and teas to veggies, fruits and meats. It's been open for a few years now and it's still fun for me to visit and look at all the different items they stock. Some things are not on my diet, but many of them are interesting. Their front stall outside of the shop does a good job of tempting me to pick up extra goods too, which I don't mind. The staff are typically pretty friendly, they might have a few hipster cashiers which can smile more and have more of a friendly tone, but most of them are fine. They've done a ton of renovations in the last little while and it's help the store. It's not as crowded anymore, plus the cash register is no longer such a bottleneck. read more
