I have had nothing but great experiences here. I will say, I'm someone who doesn't plan ahead well,…read moreso when I schedule a haircut/color, it's usually last minute so I schedule with whoever has an opening. As a result, I've had appointments with many of the women here and they all have done a fantastic job. The usual visit goes: I do a terrible job explaining what I want exactly (usually accompanied by a picture or two), they somehow decipher it and make their own suggestions, and I walk out loving my new color (and cut but I usually just trim a couple inches so nothing special there). Everyone's super nice and they're good at reading whether or not I want to chat or just have an hour or two of relative silence/escape from my hectic life. They also always suggest cheaper ways of doing what I want and I'm grateful for that (and it always looks amazing). They also always take into account my infrequency of visits and suggest things that will take less upkeep which is also appreciated. Picture is just the most recent haircut and color; sorry it's just half my hair but it might give you an idea! The only problem is that parking is a nightmare in the area. There are usually some free meters in the area (try a street down from the salon, next to the UDF) but if you're getting something that might take more than two hours, those two hour meters aren't super helpful.

I was ready for a big change! Skylar was amazing and completely surprised me with her recommendations. After learning I would be traveling to Vegas soon, she said I should wait on coloring it so it wouldn't fade in the sun. We also had a long conversation where I discovered the conditioners I was using were too heavy. I was doing too much for my type of hair. She gave me so much layering and body, while lightening the weight. My hair is so much easier to manage now and looks 100 times better. She could have colored my hair and charged me more, but instead told me what i needed. I can't thank her enough! I will definitely book her for all my future appointments. 1 before pic and 2 after pics

I paid 57 bucks plus tip for this "cut." Once the next appointment showed up, mine was put on fast forward and I was shooed out the door - but not before trying to sell me a bunch of stuff. My hair cut had more lines than a movie script. Also, there was no fade. Just short hair. The hair wash was very nice. When I went back so that they could "fix" the previous attempt, I wasn't charged - though I kinda felt like they shoulda paid me! I'd go there again if you drove and paid for the first cut, and the following "fix it" cuts.

The real test of a stylist is how the haircut grows out. And by that measure, this salon's owner…read moreDarren is a Jedi warrior of hair. He gave me an American Balayage, which is like an ombré on steroids, in March at his precious salon location in Clintonville. The color grew out so beautifully and naturally that I didn't get my hair re-colored until December 1. And I only got two haircuts in those nine months because the haircut, too, grew out so nicely. I'm a graduate student, and Darren is always mindful of my budget. But because his haircuts last so darn long, I can afford to get fancier color. Also, I thought Darren was exaggerating when he said that a Brazilian Blowout would change my life. I have really frizzy hair, so a promise of "no frizz, and you'll roll out of bed every morning looking like you walked out of a salon" sounded impossible. But omg, it has seriously improved my life. No frizz, not even after CrossFit workouts in the summer humidity. I roll out of bed looking like I just had my hair done, and I have no split ends. It's ah-maze-ing. Darren is also a real sweetie, always fun to talk to and fun to watch while he's working. He works at the quick, efficient clip of someone who really knows their craft. He's the best!

I booked a full highlight and cut and realized as she was almost done foiling that the entire bottom row of my hair wasn't foiled in the back. I asked her if I booked a full or partial and she said full. So I inquired about this full row of hair not being weaved - her response? "I can just charge you for a partial." Okay, I'm not concerned about prices but would just like what I asked for. She then rudely and unprofessionally told me that she was going to be cutting most of the back anyways and you won't be able to see that part of my hair AND if wanted those parts foiled that was a different service and would take her longer and finished off my telling me that if I was dissatisfied once she was done we would "go from there." My hair doesn't even touch my shoulders. I declined to let her cut it due to her vibe and that she couldn't handle a round brush to even give me a good blow out. She maybe said two things to me while I was there, not inviting or kind but had no problem chatting it up with coworkers. Clearly Lainey didn't want to be at work too late or find new clients with her attitude. I've had my hair this length for 3 years and have been getting fulls and partials the entire time and have never had someone completely not do underneath for a full - if it is truly a different service would have been happy to pay, but truly just felt like I was treated poorly and trying to get money out of me. Oh, and whoever runs the front desk could not have been less interested or concerned when I told her this was the worst experience I've had in a salon. Waste of my time and money.
