This teacher Mr Young today had favored one of his former students clearly to DUMB to comprehend the fact that brushing a issue aside caused a poor girl a panic attack! Luckily her friends were there to calm her down but clearly this teacher Mr Young could not care even less to take care of the girl! Today the girl was injured by a ball while playing kickball which later a kid heard another one talking bad about the girl... So as most would do the girl walked over to Mr Young to tell him what had happened and instead of him asking what happened the boy had happened to be near by saying he had asked if she was alright and that took the teachers mind and got him to looking at the girl mind you this school is absolutely against bullying so I was quite amazed to hear that Mr Young goes "are you tattling??? Keep on playing" which already this school had mentioned it was a very safe place which no one should be scared to tell the teacher and being a tattle tale so I was very disappointed to hear the word "tattle tale" come from a teachers mouth out of all!! A teacher would be the least of someone I would expect to call a kid a tattle tale!!! I am super disgusted with this school and parents be aware of Mr Young because if your child gets this teacher I would suggest you pull your kid out of this class because this man has no empathy (something this school mentions in the 'lark pride' quote) Mr Young if you read this I'd suggest you start taking others side or else things might not end up well for your job and reputation!!! They get up excited to go to school which says much for the teachers and staff. Stuckey has the usual grade school stuff-big yard, playground equipment, etc. and any time I have come to pick kids up after school there is always someone out front ready to pounce on tiny miscreants, aleways reminding the kids to cross at the cross walk. I feel good that someone is keeping an eye on the kids. I realize other schools do thisI want to remark on how appreciated their vigilance is...and how good we feel about this grade school.

It's All About the People…read more I had a chance to visit Adams during the holiday break. Many of the employees volunteer their time to make Christmas extra special for the children. I was lucky enough to be Santa's helper. He came in on a firetruck and greeted all of the kids, much to their delight. Then, the kiddos had a chance to sit on Kris Kringle's lap. They got to tell ole Saint Nicholas what they wanted for Christmas while I took pictures. Thanks to the wonderful volunteer effort, parents got to have the pictures with Santa processed and printed before leaving. It was really a special time. Thank you to all of the Adams 12 employees who volunteer each year and bring smiles to little faces.

I was a ecta (Early Childhood Assistant) at Thornton and bright horizons (inside horizon high school) The staff act basically like teenagers, they lack of professionalism, hard to get in contact with coordinators to express concerns. They don't care about you, they just care about having people working and doing their job but not about how you feel or how the work environment is. I just quit last Friday, the classroom I was in had 18 kids some with special needs and bad behavioral issues. The teacher over there didn't want to take advise from anyone and just wanted to do her way and the classroom was a completely disaster it was impossible to do activities with them or circle time. Last year they had 4 classrooms open and they decided to close two, so they had the bright idea of put all 18 kids in each classroom and not enough staff. They only have 3 ects, no site director a bunch of subs and the "specialist" just stare at you and watch you struggle with the kids and just take notes and leave the room. The coordinators knew what was happening and did nothing about it, they kept enrolling kids knowing they didn't had enough staff to cover. It was a truly safety concern being in that classroom, kids had really bad behavior issues, I think if we didn't had a lot of kids or at lest enough help I wouldn't had left but since the coordinator didn't care at all I had to put myself first at left. When I let her know I was not coming back and they saw how bad it was they finally decided to do something about it. I'm just thankful nothing bad happened when I was there because I don't think those parents would have believed me if I tell them how bad that classroom was. If you are thinking about applying at this district specially preschoool just know coordinators and teachers love to gossip around, are not professional, are selfish and don't care about staff and the people that are there trying to help.

Sandoval Elementary seems to be one of the best elementary school choices in the Highlands area…read more The DPS system does not have an excellent reputation. My son has been attending Sandoval a few years now. Sandoval is a little strange. The classes are grouped so for example 1,2 and 3rd graders are all lumped together for 3 years. I did question this method, but the bright side is that it creates some stability in class mates and teachers. It's half Spanish speaking which I feel is a mixed blessing as well. My son is learning two languages but I am afraid he may end up a "jack of all trades master of none" but the verdict is still out. The school is kind of hard to get into, so I think the parents and kids seem to take learning a little more seriously at this school.

I think the teachers are doing their best - I know my son's teacher was but she is only one person. The office staff is great. An example is a lot of the boys have a fight club out in the field where there's no teachers on a daily basis. My son has been knocked out and no teachers were anywhere near nor aware of it. My son got in trouble because he was being bullied by two kids older than him and the BASE teachers weren't paying attention, when he tried to speak up he got in trouble. Things like that.

When I walk my kids to school every morning and see a staff member say good morning and acknowledge each student that walks past her by name and my sons walks past she says nothing and without her head moving but eyes following him looks like a scowl to me. That's a problem. You need to get rid of people like that. These kids are our future leader and you don't treat anyone of them any different. She might think he doesn't notice but he does. Very tall ceilings, well maintained. The main thoroughfare is pretty impressive as you walk into the space. When there's kids walking around in between classes, the echo is impressive. Since I'm only there for a volunteer program, I can't speak to the teachers or the classes. However, my student that I read with is extremely bright and her teacher encourage her to reach as much as possible, for school and for fun. Really cool building and really cool kids.
