At the same time, the demands of competitive dance can be intense, and she began feeling like she had to give up everything else in order to keep up with dance. She also started experiencing some anxiety. I went to Ms. Laurie (Owner) to talk about what was going on, and I was incredibly appreciative of how she responded. She took the time to talk with my daughter personally and also arranged for my daughter to spend some time talking with older high school dancers. They were able to share their own experiences, what they had been through at her age, and how they learned to handle similar situations. I thought it was such a thoughtful way to give my daughter a safe space to talk with people who could really understand what she was going through and offer perspective from their own experiences. That meant a lot to me as a parent. Ms. Laurie truly goes above and beyond for her dancers. Of course dance technique and training are important, but helping kids grow emotionally, learn how to handle challenges, and feel supported is even more important to me. After five years at Exceleration I am especially grateful to know that my daughter is at a studio where they care not only about the dancer she is becoming, but also about the person she is becoming.
