Great, freshly caught lobster and crab…read more We stayed in lovely Johnshaven for two nights. Just around the corner from our place was Murry McBay. We were looking for some fresh seafood and asked them were to buy some. We were very happy to learn that we can purchase lobsters and crabs directly from them, freshly caught (and still alive). We even got a box for them. So we bought two nice-sized crabs and a lobster. And....it did cost....9£!!! I mean wow....you can forget any seafood counter at any grocery store. Unbeatable prices and freshness! We cooked them for dinner. Great great flavour...did I mention already how fresh they were? Yeah, I guess I did. One of the crabs was female and had loads of eggs....a feast for seafood-lovers! So, if you stay in Johnshaven...or anywhere close: Look no further! This is THE place! Not sure about opening times, we just walked by, asked and got lucky.

Outside, there're fruits and vegetables, and anything else that's on sale at the moment. When I was there last, there were actual pots of curry (just the sauce ofcourse!) going for £1. Everything else out there looked pretty tempting, but it was quite a hot day so I'm a bit worried the food will have that sun baked taste, which sounds nicer than it tastes as I write it. Inside, however, was the BIGGEST surprise is inside the store on the shelves. They're ready made meals, in jars, including duck confit and most bizarrely wild boar. This may be normal to some of you, but I've never seen a wild boar let alone eaten one, so...I stared at it for a little while before I left.

The guys that run the shop are great - always chatty and friendly. My main draw for here is the lunch time rolls for a little over a pound. Considering the chain places and coops etc can charge almost three pounds for a disappointing dry sandwich, this is a bargain. Nothing fancy just white rolls salad and whatever tempts you. They have bargain bins outside the shop which are always worth a browse. If you are passing pop in for a browse and a chat, you wont be disappointed.

Though I have to admit at times it can be a tinsy bit pricey for those on the budget.... but its so cute and has so many imports you can't find in St. Andrews that the premium is worth it. They have my favourite type of Amaretti cookies which I was super excited about! But I have to say I couldn't afford their Truffle oil (go to Morrisons, they have it too... and cheap but probably not the same quality as the Little Italian Shop). When my parents where visiting we came here and got some cheese and pasta and pesto sauce (and wine of course) and made a meal from this place. And (don't hate me for mentioning it again) but the shop is just so cute that I can't help but love it! Sometimes I get a little worried though when I walk by and I don't see anyone inside.... I don't want this place to close because of the recession!

I had great hopes for this Valvona and Crolla, situated in THE department store of the city centre, Jenners. I was sadly disappointed to find it has much less character than the rustic and homey store on Elm Row. You will still find great food that I was impressed by the other store, and perhaps even more as they have an American Food section, with the popular staples such as Pop Tarts and Aunt Jemima mixes and syrups. There is an adjoining restaurant with fantastic views over and beyond Princes Street, and two smaller cafes, one in the food hall, and another on a lower floor by the men's clothes section. The food here is a little pricier than going to a supermarket as would be expected, but for a foodie like me, it's well worth it. Just go to the Elm Row one instead. Nuff said.

Lovely view of Scott's Monument and the surrounding area, with the hustle and bustle of the main street while you sit above it all! The service was a bit slow, which I am a tad unforgiving about as there was two people serving and they were slowed down by chatting to a third employee. It's a pet peeve of mine. Apart from that the staff were smiley and cheerful. The price was ok, about £7.50 for what I ordered, which I can live with. A lovely place for a tea or coffee and a quick bite while you shop in the lavishness that is Jenners.

Seriously, Eurasia is no quick stop. It's a corner shop but it's certainly no ordinary one. It's a funky one! With an eclectic and extensive selection of herbs, spices and other foodie bits and bobs. Truth be told, I'll need to have another browse because there's a lot on offer. I absolutely love the Indian theme of the shop. It's got all the essentials you need from a corner shop alongside many Indian delicatessen style items. I left with some handmade Mithai (Really tasty stuff, kind of like an Indian take on tablet!) and a box of Jalebi. (Oh, wow! There are no words! Run to your nearest Jalebi vendor! I mean it!) Now, in all honesty, I don't think there's anywhere else in Stirling you can find such delicious unique treats. So for that reason I think I'll be in Eurasia a whole lot more. Anywhere with Mango Lassi in their fridge is a hit for me! And in Central Stirling, it's not even that farther than walking to my own! Hooray for the local corner shop!

Their steak pie is lovely and you can get it with Sausages in it which is what I prefer. It is a tiny little shop but really clean and staff are really nice. Prices are really good for a small quality butchers and their meat is nice and fresh. Biggest disadvantage is lack of choice especially when just around corner you have a butchers with such a large choice. Biggest advantage is the Steak Pie which in my opinion is best you can buy in Airdrie.

John Dory, salmon, rainbow and sea trout, clams, fresh mussels, queen scallops, samphire, live razor shells, own-smoked salmon.... yup, the list does go on. My parents partake in the smoked haddock on a regular basis (non-coloured/treated), while today I picked up some of the rollmops. It's OK, I'm single, and I am alright with fish-breath.
