This truck has been outside of grist house in the past and was again very satisfying. 4 of us each had a different burger and they were all good, but each burger was, for the most part, a variation of each other. The truffle sauce was not very memorable. None of them were bad at all, just no stand out burgers. We ordered a large fry to share with the chipotle mayo and truffle mayo. They were really good waffle fries but I was a little disappointed with the size of the fry for 7$ plus 2$ for each dip. Service was fine. A standard food truck experience. Clean presentation. I just think the price is a little much. read more

Had the food truck at gristhouse. The burger and fries were great. Service was also great!

This food truck was parked outside Hitchhiker the last time I visited, and the food smelled too good to resist. They had some interesting sounding burgers on the menu, but we decided to try the Jam on it burger. It had onion jam, whole grain mustard cream sauce, and Gouda cheese. The sweet onion jam mixed with the "vinegary" taste of the mustard was perfect. The burgers are all cooked the same, so you can't choose how well done you want it. I would have preferred it be a little softer inside, but it was still super juicy and flavorful! Definitely give their burgers a try if you see The Steel and Wheel food truck! read more

people were a 10! burger was crazy salty. Yesterday at the Dancing Nomb, Sharpsburg .

This food truck is amazing. 2nd time trying it at Dancing Gnome Brewery spot. Their Foods are super fresh and worth the wait. I love the flavor of their burgers. Some might say their buns are "Air-ey" but I actually like it, it pairs well with their burgers. Must try if you see them parked near you! read more

We ordered a few different burgers with fries and sauces. In general everything was far too salty. I think the items would have been really tasty, but they were completely overtaken by salt. I don't know if I would give this place another shot. If I was extremely hungry or out of options...I'd maybe just order a standard burger with traditional toppings and plain fries without sauces. The workers were friendly and timely with our order. Also, It really didn't sit well walking away with 3 burgers and one order of fries for $50+ read more

Just had a great lunch from The Steer and Wheel. They parked their truck outside of my office so I was able to get one of their highly sought after burgers. I ordered the McBurger, which is a take on a Big Mac. It tasted great! The patty was perfectly cooked and the flavor of the burger with all the toppings was spot on! The real star of the show, however, was the fries! I read the reviews about the fries and boy they did not disappoint! Their technique of double frying them really makes a difference. I also tried the truffle mayo dip. The flavor was good but I found myself tasting truffle oil well past the mealtime. So next time I'll try a different dip or just enjoy those delicious fries naked! I will most definitely keep my eyes open for this food truck in the future! read more

Actually surprised by the really high reviews. I got the curly truffle burger and my husband got the spicy one burger. We also ordered a large fry to share. The burgers themselves didn't have any flavor to them. My burger was pretty pink so I could only stomach half the burger. To be fair I did not request how well done I like my burgers. The fries were super good and really the only reason (besides the friendly staff) that Im giving this truck three stars. I probably will not be returning but maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea. read more

Really enjoyed the Curly's Truffle burger with Truffle mayo, horseradish cheddar, tomato, red onion on a Brioche. Some yummie double-fry russet potatoes, too! There as a short line, shorter and faster than some of the other trucks. Steer is well organized. You get a number and then when your burger is ready, your number is called. Wish it was in the neighborhood more often! read more

One of my favorite food trucks..everything I've tried has been excellent! A must try if you find them parked at your local brewery.

I have only had the delicious higher end burgers from the Steer and Wheel. During Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week, the Steer and Wheel catered the beer dinner that I attended at The Grist House. I thought the concept of a curated food truck beer dinner was innovative, so I had to check it out. (Besides the fact that I love beer dinners) Boy, did Steer and Wheel really crush it. I can't get over the Main course of Shrimp and Grits. Having lived in the south, I am always on a mission for great grits. And they hit the mark. The shrimp was not overly breaded and really complimented the cheesiness of the grits without being overbearing. All of the courses were done to perfection with flavors that were accentuated with the paired beers and vice versa. I like how The Steer and Wheel stepped out of the truck (See What I did there??) and left the bun behind. read more

I was impressed the first time and continue to be impressed by The Steer and Wheel. Burgers made fresh and to order using locally sourced ingredients can't be beat. And when I consider the fact that they frequent local businesses (including my place of employment and local breweries), it's going to be a 5 star review. I don't always get fries when ordering a burger, but at Steer and Wheel it's recommended. The fries are double fried which kind of makes them doubly delicious. If you check out the website there are a lot of burgers listed however they aren't all available on a daily basis which a nice change of pace because then I'm not ordering the same burger all the time (even though I'm partial to the BCQ Burger). They have enough diversity that I feel confident in saying anyone can find something they'll enjoy. Unless you're a vegetarian. But then again, there are those fries. I think it's great that the local food truck scene has become so popular. These truckers deserve success for sharing their labors of love. read more

I am a HUGE fan of this truck. For the longest time, it was like my White Whale; I saw it pop up on Twitter but could never find it in real life. I finally (!!) pinned it down at Coffee Buddha one day and have been hooked ever since. My mouth is watering just writing this! Sure, it's a little on the expensive side for a food truck, but you get quality and quantity, my friends. The menu is pretty big and they only have certain items on the truck, so be sure to follow them on Twitter to see what their offerings are. Even if you don't see your favorite, go eat there anyway. The burgers are fresh, always piled high with amazing toppings, and so juicy you will need to roll up your sleeves. Now let's talk about the fries. You get a ton of fresh-cut, warm, salty fries. I'd liken these to Winghart's and are currently tied for "most favorite fries in Pittsburgh." I'd go for The French Lieutenant's Burger and Curly's Truffle but they usually have a special Buddha Burger when they're parked at Coffee Buddha. Go. Run. Now! read more

The Steer and Wheel - The French Lieutenant's Burger - Food Trucks Near Me

I was at a beer tasting for a homebrewers competition at Wigle Whiskeys Barrelhouse this past weekend whenever The Steer and Wheel pulled up. It had been noted on the tastings website that they would be there and I was more than ready to try the food from what has been an elusive food truck for myself. After perusing the menu I decided to go with the spicy one burger while my wife went with the Curly's Truffle I think. We also decided to get a large order of fries and a fry dipper of truffle mayonnaise to share. After about 5 minutes or so our burgers and fries were ready. Immediately I could tell that the burger bun was toasted nicely as it had a great golden brown color to it. I believe that my burger was made with a house-ground beef and chorizo blend and then topped with some fried jalapenos, ghost chile jack cheese and a spicy sauce. The meat of the burger was cooked nicely as it was flavorful and juicy. I loved the toppings for it too as it gave the burger a bit of spice without going too far overboard. My wife also really enjoyed her burger. Whenever we finished our burgers we ended up digging into the fries. They looked like freshly cut fries and were both really crispy and salted perfectly. After enjoying a couple of them plain, I decided that I should dip a few of them into the truffle mayo. Holy crap, was it good. I think it is something that I could eat every day for the rest of my life and still be happy eating it. The bottom line for me is that I would buy food from the Steer and Wheel truck if I see them again. The fries were simply amazing while the burgers were pretty good too! read more

Solid burger! I like to first judge a burger place on their standard, regular burger first before moving on to their more elaborate and creative ones. So I figured that I would do the same for this food truck, eh burger truck. I had seen them around at events where other food trucks were but, never tried them until now. I had the Straight Up burger (American cheese, onion, ketchup, mustard, pickle on a brioche bun.) The bun was soft and buttery and the meat was cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. Grab some extra napkins as the burger can get a bit messy. The fresh cut fries were very good as well. I can't decide which was better out of the two burger trucks I have tried so far (BRGR and The Steer and Wheel) so I will call it a tie for now. read more

I met a friend for dinner last week at a local brewery, not realizing that they didn't serve food, so dinner became drinks! Steer and Wheel saved the day. I've apparently become such a light weight that after one drink I was feeling it and needed something to eat pretty badly. Cue the food truck to soak up that yummy stout. I got the Jam on it burger w/ onion jam, bacon, and GOUDA and I was in heaven. (To my mouth, gouda cheese elevates everything and if a dish is made with gouda, I know I'm in for a treat. I was totally right.) I devoured the burger handily *and* all the fries. Don't skip the fries here. They don't need ketchup- totally the most important measure of fry quality. read more

I got a burger from here the other day at one of the food truck roundups and it was fantastic. The meat was juicy and seasoned extremely well. The bun had a nice buttery flavor and the chipolte sauce and taco seasoning used on their Mexican burger was fantastic and a nice change of pace from your standard burger joint. It's food off a truck that tastes better than a significant percentage of burgers that you would get at other establishments. I would placed it below (but still in a close proximity) to getting a burger at Burgatory. I follow them on Facebook and they seem regular behind Coffee Budda on Perrysville highway, it's definitely worth checking out on a nice day when you don't mind eating outside. read more

I have been wanting a burger for a long time. You know, a really good burger that I could tell all of my friends about. Well, I found it! The Steer and Wheel guys nailed it with their food truck fare. They had a truck at Grist House so I decided to try them out. WOW! I had "The Spicy One". A thick, juicy burger with lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, ghost pepper cheese and a jalapeno ranch. Not a fan of any condiment in the creamy variety, I had it made without the sauce. In fact this burger was so good it required no condiments at all. Hands down one of the tastiest burgers I've ever had. Usually if we crave something and finally obtain it can be such a letdown. This was the furthest thing from that. Oh and I almost forgot, the fries were perfection. My boyfriend had the pimento cheeseburger and his review mirrors the one I've just written. Thank you to the folks at The Steer and Wheel who create food truck realness!! read more

The Steer and Wheel - The Spicy One and The Redneck. - Food Trucks Near Me

This is my new favorite food truck - hands down. I've been on a quest for a perfect burger, and theirs absolutely hit the spot.

I will upload a photo later, but I had their Pimento burger (again) last night at Grist House. Had it with a side of fries and the garlic dipping sauce. The burgers taste great, juicy and flavorful. The pimento cheese is perfect and honestly not expected in the Pittsburgh area, they throw in some BBQ sauce and pickles. I couldn't build a burger in my mind than this. The fries are always good, hot, and crispy. They always do an awesome job and charge about $8 a burger. Definitely worth a try, one of the best food trucks! read more

Had this amazing truck in our neighborhood...food and service awesome! Was so popular they sold out! Many say best food truck in the city!

If I could give this place a ZERO I would. How as a BURGER food truck can you only have spicy/brown mustard? Also every time this truck comes to my job they run out of food within an hr and they are normally scheduled there for about 3. read more

The steer and wheel truck has my husband favorite burgers. I like them as well. The fries are yummy too.

Great top shelf burgers and fresh cut potato fries around! A must have homerun meal when they are in my area!

The hamburgers taste like real food! Really good food! I had one outside of Coffee Budha on Perry highway. It is a nice change from a lot of the fast food and chain restaurant burgers out there. read more

I always eat here when they are at the Coffee Buddha in the North Hills. I don't make it a habit of eating burgers, but this burger is worth my once a week splurge. Best burgers I have ever eaten. read more

Pretty darn good burger and fries. I ordered The Spicy One, which came with ghost pepper jack cheese. It was very tasty, and they are not exaggerating about the ghost pepper. I was sweating for hours afterwards. The small order of fries is a good amount. Double fried, and there was malt vinegar packets to put on the fries. Delicious. My only complaint was no asking how you wanted the burger done, but it was very crowded and they were short staffed, so it probably was too much to ask for. Will definitely order from again. read more

I must say that my wife and I both were very impressed with the Steer and Wheel. My wife who never eats her whole burger devoured this juicy delicate sandwich. I chose the Jam on it medium cooked with Gouda and Bacon and onion jam. WOW what a perfect combination and sandwich masterpiece! I was almost in tears by my last bite but was to full to order a second! As for the fresh cut fries with just the right amount of sea salt, heavenly to the end! Don't let the price fool you for a second, your not going to get a dried up burger patty on a cheap bun here. Top quality burger perfection 100 percent! read more

Better than BRGR, but I thought the mediterra hamburger buns were too dry & the quality of the meat to be lacking. The burgers were creative, but the flavor combos were good not great. read more

Had a straight up burger outside Grist Brewery last night. Very tasty guys but the center of the burger was raw. Not rare, not slightly undercooked. Raw. I didn't specify how cooked I was looking to get it as I figured if you guys were burger specialist, I would leave it to you. And I really don't mind a rare burger but this one needed a fair bit more time on the flat top. Despite that, I was quite happy to eat around the raw portion. I did not feel compelled to return to the truck and insist you throw it back on the grill. Generally, very tasty, great quality bun, cheese and toppings. Fries were amazing. I will certainly eat there again but I may need to specify my desire for a medium cooked burger. read more

I wanted to give this place a 3.5 but there is no 1/2. I forgot the name of the burger. I think it was curly burger I got. No fries. Just the Burger. It was $8 plus take. It's a food truck, most just do a flat rate. Why tax? The burger I had was a little bland. The service was quick and friendly. A bit high priced and bland for my taste. not entirely unedible. Would probably taste wonderful with a little more ketchup or mustard, or a few pickles. read more
