Beautiful charming and historic building in downtown Albany. Great wedding venue. Food was excellent and servers were really attentive. I was there for a wedding on one of the hottest days of summer yet the State Room was cool and comfortable. Only issue was that the woman's bathroom got kind of nasty (which is more of a reflection on the guests) but it could have been cleaned up a bit throughout the evening. I went to a wedding reception here in November when it was cold, so I wore an overcoat. My coat was a very expensive cashmere blend that cost me over $1000. Upon arriving at the venue I saw that there was a coat rack, but no coat CHECK. We were invited just to hang our coats. When the event ended, my coat was gone. I waited until everyone left, and sure enough there was one similar coat left unclaimed. So now I am missing my very expensive coat, a Louis Copeland that I bought in Ireland. All because there was no coat check. It seems to me that any venue located in upstate New York would have coat check facilities. Certainly a place that bills itself as a "Premier Wedding Venue" should expect to have people arrive for their events with valuable items that should be properly checked. Bad review! read more

I was here for a wedding this weekend. As part of the groomsmen, I have certain aspects of this review that others may or may not know about, so let's go! The State Room used to be a bank and office tower (correct me if I'm wrong). The State Room covers the ground floor of the 8-story building. If I'm correct, the owner of the Original State Room moved into this area last year, so it's fairly new. Because this used to be a bank, a cool feature of the building is the "Vault." During cocktail hour, all the bridesmaids and groomsmen had their own cocktail hour in the Vault. We were served drinks and food. I had the pesto bruschetta & the tomato bruschetta which were pretty good. I thought the idea of the Vault is unique. I've never seen this done before. It's great for hosting an exclusive cocktail party. The space fits about 250-300 people. Only minor, minor point to note is that the layout potentially leads to obstructed views for a handful of tables. Best way I can compare it to is like the antenna of a house phone. The "antenna" comprises of a table or two of potentially obstructed seats. Basically, if someone is giving a speech, you can hear, but not see them. Not a problem if you know families/friends/children disinterested in seeing what's happening... just make sure to seat the important people closest to the dance floor. There is a nice enough space for the stage. We had a live band and they had no issues. Not sure if DJs have come here before, but I'm sure there would be enough room for them too. The space can also be used as a buffet line as well. The food and service were great. We got the full dinner with all the different courses. I'm a big fan of eggplant (mainly because I'm vegetarian), so I was excited for that. Since I ate so much before and was drinking a ton haha, I wasn't able to finish the entire eggplant parm. But man, the eggplant parm was wonderful. The waiters, waitresses, and bartenders were all very professional and courteous to us guests. The dance floor allows ample space for all the guests to have some fun time dancing. I enjoyed my time at The State Room and recommend it to anyone who wants to host a wedding reception here. It's close proximity to the Hilton & Hampton Inn allow the wedding parties to simply stumble from State Room to their hotels with no issues. The Parking actually is not an issue on the weekends as most people are not in the city there. read more

I came here for a wedding recently, and I was very impressed with the venue. The food was great, service was attentive, a full bar right inside the room, and tons of tables and chairs. Parking is hard, but if you have your event in the evening on a Friday or weekend, all the state workers are gone and parking and traffic is a breeze. Provides more room for guests to park on the street and for free if it's after 6pm. It is a nice size room, very elegant looking with a nice size dance floor. Plenty of space for a small band (which this wedding had) or a DJ. If I wanted a formal looking atmosphere for my wedding, I would choose the State Room. A large selection of menu options too. read more

The State Room is a class act! Once my husband and I got engaged, we already knew where we wanted to have our wedding. We did not tour any other wedding venues. We held our ceremony and reception at The State Room on 8/10/19 and it was an amazing experience! From our consultation to the big day, everything went smoothly. Tara & Eric were excellent, helpful, and so easy to work with. Tom was very hands on, attentive to my needs, and aware of our timing. He picked me up at my parent's home, took me to our first look location, and to the venue to prepare to walk down the aisle. The only tiny thing I would have done differently was ensure that me and my husband's dinner was packed up for us to take back to our hotel room. We barely ate and we were both excited for the menu we put together. Other than that, we absolutely loved our wedding and so did our guests. I would highly recommend The State Room for any event! read more

I went here for a formal cocktail event. Very classy venue, and decor is beautiful. Lots of chandeliers and hanging lights. The ballroom itself is big enough to fit approx 250 people comfortably, 300 if you really want to squeeze more in. A plus for the adjacent parking lot, as this can be an issue in downtown Albany. The hors d'oeuvres served at the event were very good- stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta, sesame chicken, etc. There was also a bread and pasta station. The staff is also very attentive and on top of things. With people getting more drunk and rowdy, they were there to clean up our messes and make sure no-one slipped on drinks or dropped food. All in all, a very nice place for a special occasion. read more

Then, I want you to share it & pass it on, if only to raise awareness. Sometime in 2013 My sister, Jessica Keto, scheduled her wedding for The State Room in Albany NY. The Date was set for May 9th 2014. By the time the even was paid in FULL, the wedding was off, with the owner REFUSING to refund ANYTHING. Now I know what you may be thinking... They cancelled the wedding, it's their own fault. That's what happens. Well let me tell you, that is the story you will get from The State Room. What they CONVENIENTLY fail to mention, is that Jessica Keto suddenly passed away at the age of 28 on March 19th 2014. Just 40 days prior to Wedding Day. It came as a shock, it was completely unexpected. It shook our world, and left us not knowing what to do. In a matter of one day, this family went from planning & anticipating a wedding to planning a funeral for someone who died well before their time. Every vendor; flowers, hair, dress, and even rings, all gave 100% refunds. THEY could manage to put themselves in our family's shoes, to understand the tragedy, & offer what little they could to make it just that much easier. The Venue/Caterer: The State Room offered NOTHING. It's honestly INSULTING, & TRAGIC that a business could do this to a grieving family. We even offered for them to keep whatever reasonable profit they would have made if they could not rebook the room. Seeing as they did not have to purchase any food, beverages, or even pay employees since an even did not take place. Still, after MONTHS, they have offered NOTHING for an almost $18,000 wedding. So please, if this story shocks you, bothers you, invokes any emotion what so ever, SHARE it. Get the word out there as to what sort of business The State Room runs. We just celebrated our daughter's wedding at the State Room at 100 State Street in Albany, NY. If I could have given them 10 stars I would have. From the first visit we knew this was a special place but we had no idea how special until this Friday when everything they promised us became a reality and then some. Eric, Tara and Tom are the very best at knowing what is needed for the perfect wedding celebration. All of our friends and family were blown away by the delicious food, wonderful waitstaff and incredible bar tenders. The room is so simply elegant you really don't need anything else to have the perfect setting for your celebration. So thrilled we chose the State Room. Would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a special place to entertain and have the perfect party for any occasion but especially for a wedding. read more

I went to a wedding reception here that was gooooorgeous! Dark wood dance floor flanked by large while columns, beautiful lighting, table set ups were very pretty with fresh autumn bouquets. Wide variety of hors d'oeuvres, the fish (sole) was light and very delicious- perfect for a wedding with an open bar. Seating a was little cramped and there was often a line for the women's room but this was perhaps due to the size of the party (275?) The staff was very professional and from a guests point of view, everything went off without a hitch. If I were getting married in Albany, the State Room would be at the top of my list as far as venues. read more

I attended a wedding here. A beautiful building that has old school class and charm. High ceilings with huge chandeliers, marble walls and columns, a surprisingly well stocked bar with some seasonals on tap. The food was perhaps some of the best I've had in a while from hors d'oeuvres to entrees. Dessert was brought in for the wedding. The only gripe I had with the evening was the acoustics made everything hard to hear. Perhaps it was the audio system and speaker placement, but I could not hear a single speech or lyrics to songs. I attended a wedding here and right away was marveled at the place. The bar had a sign on top that had the last name of the couple, looking like that was the bar's name. It was a great touch. The room was kinda weird as they have huge pillars and someone sitting next to them had limited space. I also didn't like the fact that the cocktail and reception was at the same setting so our tables were dirty before the entree came out. make sure when picking the cocktail food, that you tell what exactly you want because the couple gave the discretion to the owner and put so much seafood on the menu. The State Room set the stage for the wedding of our dreams. From start to finish, they catered to our every request and offered suggestions along the way. Their venue is gorgeous and romantic. A true fairytale. Behind the scenes organization is on point and they'd thought of everything before I had even given it consideration. Bartenders and servers were professional, quick, organized, and accommodating. The food is out of this world amazing. Heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at the State Room for the beautiful wedding celebration that my son and daughter-in-law had last month! So many of our guests told us that it was the best wedding they had ever been to, especially raving about the appetizers, the wait staff and the lovely restored venue! I cannot say enough about the appetizers...they were amazing! Eric and Tara, the wedding coordinators, see to every detail and made the evening so much fun. They were especially sweet to my parents (in their mid 80s). We offered the Prime Rib, the Cranberry sage chicken, the salmon and the eggplant roulade...enjoyed by all our guests. I apologize to the owner and his team for taking so long to send a review. My daughter and son in law were married here on Memorial Day weekend. This place is everything as promised. Being a skeptical New Yorker I took everything with a grain of salt and would judge for myself if they could deliver. The place was beautiful and the food and service was amazing. The owner Tom chauffeured the bride and groom around for first look pictures and because of the weather new all the best places to get the right shots. The location is a beautifully decorated converted bank which impressed all our guests. Tom said he would add to the cocktail hour food and he sure did. All the guests remarked on how good the food was. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and was not your normal wedding potion. You were not leaving hungry. Tara who ran the show for us was everywhere and if I asked about anything it was done immediately. When booking the venue add the fun food finale our guests loved it and was an awesome way to end the evening. My son was just married at the State Room this past weekend 10/7/18. They did a fabulous job, thanks to Eric he ran it like a tight ship, down to every small detail. I was so thankful for him, I put my trust in him and he did not disappoint. The place was beautiful, the wait staff was awesome. The food was delicious, and plenty of it! The guests have been raving about the wedding. The State Room gives extra little things that are enticing, that's something, no other venue does for brides. FABULOUS AND FLAWLESS WEDDING AT THE STATE ROOM IN ALBANY My husband and I want to take this opportunity to formally thank you for everything you did to make our daughter and son-in-law's January 23, 2016 wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception a memorable, wonderful, and "over the top" experience. The State Room was the first venue we planned a meeting with and once we met with Tom and his staff, we cancelled all of our other meetings and knew that this was the place our daughter's wedding was meant to be. Generally we take months to research and make a decision, but we knew right away this was it!! From the minute we made the decision they sat down with us with a list of recommended DJ's, florists, cake bakers, and photographers. This whole process felt so organized and was so helpful. We used photographer/genius Rob Spring-Rob Spring Photography, amazing/floral designer Linda Jensen-Flowers Forever by Linda, the incredible DJ Mike Garrasi with Music Man Entertainment, seriously the best cake I have ever had by Louise at a Piece of Cake Bakery and Cafe, the beyond accommodating MaryLu with Ferri Formals, and our "beauty" team Lauren France-Hair, Cassandra McKenna and Beauty By E-Erica Sherman-make-up. Who made sure everyone was there on time and EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT???? The beyond amazing Eric Michael Stewart - General Manager and Senior Wedding & Event Coordinator and Tom Nicchi-owner of The State Room! Both Eric and Tom made our daughter's wedding absolutely flawless!! Brides/grooms and their families need quality- personalized attention, well-seasoned professionals who know what it takes to make a wedding successful, and everything that the bride and groom are looking for. The State Room and their staff know exactly how to deliver. Every parent wants the best for their children, especially on their wedding day; this not only met but far exceeded our expectations.
