The first moment my husband and I toured Takk house we knew it was the venue. The building is gorgeous, timeless, and the exact vision we had for our wedding. We chose to go with the all inclusive wedding package, which took care of so many details that would otherwise be stressful. Our wedding planner/coordinator Andrea is simply amazing. She was so easy to work with and took so much stress off of us, which actually let us enjoy the planning. She was there for us every step of the way and we're forever grateful for her hard work and dedication throughout the process. Sarah the in house florist is unbelievably talented, I honestly could've just given her our colors and let her take the reigns. Sarah's way of bringing a vision to life is breathtaking. Julie the in house designer was also a dream to work with! She executed our vision above and beyond and even suggested ideas we went with that were stunning! After all of the planning our wedding day came, and what a fairy tale it was. My husband and I, our families and friends are just speechless at how magical it was. The day from the very beginning to end was perfect. The timeline Andrea put together for us went smoothly. Her and her assistant Hayley were on top of everything, and also had anything you could think of on them. Shout out to the aprons with scissors, tissues, and anything else you would never think of needing during the getting ready process! We also did a first look on the roof top. I will remember that moment forever, it was so magical and breath taking up there. The private moment we got to share together really made us feel on top of the world. Now to the good part, the food! The in house catering meadowlark was perfection! There were so many options for those who had special dietary restrictions but also so many options for those who don't. Everything, and I mean everything was delicious. The way the Takk house team comes together for your big day is beautiful. I got lucky enough to be invited to the All Over Albany birthday bash at the Takk House. I was pretty excited to be going, both for the party and because my niece is getting married there this summer and I wanted to check out the venue. The building is pretty nondescript from the outside with a poorly done modern façade but the interior retains the charm of a 19th century brownstone. When you enter the building you can either go up the stairs or down to the coolest looking non working bowling alley. Upstairs is a large rectangular bar and a grand staircase to the second level. Straight ahead is the ballroom, with men's and ladies rooms in the hallway. Heidi, one of the owners, was kind enough to let us take a peak upstairs - there's a couple of rooms, one set up like a bedroom, the other with a dining table and chairs. I think further along is a balcony that overlooks the ballroom. The 3rd floor contains the owner's apartment and a gym that's under renovation. The place is not bright and shiny and brand new, instead it retains its 19th century charm along with some funky cool thrown in. I think if I was looking for a non-traditional (not cookie cutter) venue Takk House would be my pick. read more

I do not think I have ever given a one star review on Yelp. That is just not me. However, I have to share my wedding COVID experience here. Heidi and Frank initially appeared to be the cool hip young couple who understand the wedding journey. Takk House seemed like the perfect venue for us. My fiancé is Egyptian and I am from upstate NY. Takk House seemed like a blank canvas we could make our Middle Eastern meets Upstate NY dream come true. Well then COVID happened. First of all I would to share that I am a registered nurse who works in Manhattan. I was risking my life everyday to care for patients caring for covid patients. At the start of the pandemic no one knew anything about covid. Many people thought the pandemic would be absolved by summer or early fall...as a professional I knew that this pandemic was not going anywhere for a LONG time. Heidi was flexible and allowed us to change wedding dates from October 2020 to June 2021 without charge. We were grateful, but I am not sure if she would have had a choice anyway because large gathering inside were not allowed in NYS at the time. In December 2020 we noticed that Takk House had opened a Go Fund Me page asking for $50,000 without notifying us who had a BOOKED event in June. We understand that many venues wen through hardships throughout the virus but Business 101: communication with clients should be shared BEFORE POSTING A GO FUND ME PAGE. As stated previously my fiancé is Egyptian. When January 2021 the vaccine was passed by the FDA and it looked like we were able to get his mother to travel from Egypt to America. As soon as we found out this news we reached out to Heidi to ask if there were any outdoor accommodations that could be made for is mother in case she was unable to be vaccinated come June. She politely offered a dressed up alley way and a tent WE would have to pay extra for. We asked for a 50% deposit refund in January 5 days after the 6 month deadline. Heidi and Frank refused so we lost over $4,000--which again we were only asking for 1/2 of that back NOT the full deposit. By the way Go Fund Me Page was still up and collecting funds when we asked for the refund. As a health care hero working in the heart of the pandemic when NO ONE knew what was going to happen this was the worst treatment I received. Yes their business hurt but they were not risking their lives day in and day out caring for those who could not care for themselves. This "hip" couple should really self evaluate their decisions. Especially being a newer wedding venue. PS When signing the contract--look at your caterer's bar package first. It's probably a better deal. read more

We had the BEST wedding ever at Takk house! Heidi and Frank are amazing owners and have the best team helping them run this venue. Andrea (Takk in house wedding planner) was amazing from the beginning to end of my 1.5 year wedding planning journey. I literally had the easiest and most fun time planning my wild and eccentric wedding. Julie (Takk designer) and Sarah (Takk florist) literally made all my wedding dreams come true and made the space so beautiful with just the right touches. Julie was such an MVP day of along with Andreas assistant Hayley. They literally made sure my husband and I were taken care of every minute. The bar staff was fantastic as well. My guests have not stopped raving about the venue! Such a unique location for a really special wedding. If you don't want a cookie cutter wedding, come to Takk house! If I had to make any complaint it would be the difficult accessibility of the building not having a handicap entrance or handicap bathroom BUT the Takk team has a great ramp for handicapped guests to get it on a wheel chair or with a walker. They got my wheelchair bound grandma in and out without a problem! They were so accommodating to all of my guests. I highly recommend Takk House for your wedding or any big event! read more

Went for the Halloween party they hosted, first time at Takk House and consequently Franklin's Alley, the downstairs bar. I walked in the door and up the stairs to a dimly lit hallway sparsely dressed with Halloween decorations. For boasting as a themed party I was disappointed but for free admission I guess you get what you pay for. The hallway then opened up to a large square space, equivalent to the feel of my middle school gym without the basketball hoops and bleachers, where a band was playing; no stage or elevated area, the entire band on the floor (weird or just me?). After finding out the bar doesn't serve alcohol we ventured downstairs to Franklin Alley for cocktails. The bar was 5-6 people deep with 3 bartenders, fine for a Friday night if any of the bartenders want to make money but all seem to be moving in slow mo- ugh when you want a drink! The rest of this bar was weird, a rectangle shaped room with a low ceiling, easily reminding you you're in a basement, an old "stage," I have no idea what constitutes as a stage anymore, and there were many moving parts of what was the floor. I'm talking wood, carpet, Astro turf and honest to god installation. Oddly enough kind of fun to see this type of insane mis-match-ery! Weird space, will probably be back to one or both of these places just to see what's going on. read more

This is a great venue. My friend got married there this past weekend, and I was impressed all around. From start to finish everyone was taken care of, the bartenders handled 100+ guests with ease, and in general the staff was professional, kind, and helpful. The space itself felt old and new at the same time, allowing the event to be one of a kind and unforgettable. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have an event that will be unique, well taken care of, and very well air conditioned (which made a huge difference in the middle of July). read more

We attended our sons wedding recently at the Takk House. From the pre wedding walk through all the way to the clean up Frank and Heidi were excellent. The wedding and reception went off without any problems. The venue definitely gets five stars. read more
