We booked a party for Oct 4, we were not sure how many people would be attending they said if we had 125 we would have our own floor and if less we would be grouped in with the general attendees. 3 nights before the event they cancelled and wanted us to join there Sunday brunch, they said they did not even have a cruise scheduled for the night of the event. Have been on several dinner cruses and brunch cruises with the Capt. JP . Have had a great time on every cruise. Food was great, music was good, loved the outside deck to watch the sunset. The owner of this cruise Line does not enforce designated smoking areas. I should not have to pay to have breath in cigarette and Marijuana smoke. The smoke was so thick and overwhelming I had to stay inside of the cabin the entire boat ride. I could not enjoy what I paid for due to the lack of respect for people that do not smoke and don't wish to breath in other people's smoke. Designated smoking areas should be seriously enforced or make it known before you take someone's money for an event that there is no smoking restrictions/designated smoking areas in place for this event. Give me the choice rather or not I want to participate in the event. Do not take away my right to choose especially when I am spending my hard earned money. read more

Extremely upset! Booked for Saturday night dinner cruise for my mother's 79th Birthday celebration! Four days before the cruise they cancelled it stating that "ticket sales" were down. I went with a local group of people for a Sun afternoon brunch cruise down and up the river. The ship allowed people onboard before the listed board time which I guess was good but people also started eating brunch before people arrived which made it difficult to eat together and left little to do once the food was done. The brunch offerings were pretty good which 2 tables of food and drinks in a few locations. At the back of the boat on the bar were water and 2 types of juice. There was also coffee at the end of the hut buffet and in the back corner. Mimosas were also served. The food included fruits like watermelon, pineapple, honey dew and strawberries. The hot food included bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, french toast strips that were the frozen type, potatoes, and a carving board with ham and roast beef. There was mustard, horseradish, ketchup and syrup for condiments. The buffet also included 3 types of cake. The hot food was cleared away part way through the cruise but the desserts were left out for the duration. The ship sailed down river to the port of Albany and narration was very limited. Honestly, I found this kind of disappointing considering the history, buildings or manufacturing at the port that could've been discussed. We later sailed upstream past our launch point to a little north of Troy and then returned to port. There was no narration on the north or return trip. The onboard "band" consisted of a singer and keyboard player with some percussion like maracas and tambourine. I thought the "lounge" style music was atrocious. It was loud and I had a hard time talking to the person across the table from me. I had a slight head ache by the time I left. Luckily, the band only played for the 2nd half of the cruise and not the whole time. We had a beautiful weather and the multi-level decks were clean and relaxing. There were several chairs around for people to sit on if needed. There were several other parties on board. It seems like a fun idea for birthdays, retirement or graduation type parties. read more

We just got home from a 3 hour wedding celebration on the Capt. JP II on the Hudson River. Everything about the cruise was excellent. The ship was in beautiful, clean condition. It looked like it had recently been painted; there were no signs of wear and tear. We had a delicious buffet. I assume the choices vary by the contract, but we had two meats, three vegetables, salad, and a desert table. I was recently on a paddlewheel cruise in NOLA and this food was ten times better and more plentiful. My wife has a gluten problem and when the waitress asked her if she was going to the desert table, a brief explanation resulted in a very special gluten-free option for my wife. She was so pleased. As part of the party, some drinks were included. I decided to have a hard drink, for which I had to pay, and the price for top shelf gin was half what I expected. The DJ's playlist was fun and varied and not too loud for conversation. Many in the party made great use of the dance floor from little girls to the grandparents of the bride and groom. No stars. It was awful. Forget about the food. 80% of the people on the boat were smoking weed. It smelled so bad. The boat left late and even before it left people were drunk or high. They were smoking even before they got on. 90's music?! Low class. My recommendation would be not to go on. There is going to be an accident. The boat was packed. 7/22/22 JP 90s Cruise 278 River St. Troy, NY 12180 518-270-1901 Let me start by saying I was not going to go on the cruise. I first told my sister in-law Amanda NO. Then next day tried to get a ticket and was told they were sold out. Then Amanda, somehow convinced me to drive to the pier and see if they have an extra ticket for sale. Well as I was parking another friend Nicole managed to buy the only ticket left, I was in. We boarded right away. Process was really easy. (Now let's remind everyone the original boat had to be taken out of commission from floating away during a storm and crashing into a bridge). You enter onto the boat on the 2nd level. As soon as we got on, we got into the drink line on the 2nd floor. We got drinks. I am not a drinker but was going to have 1. I ordered a sex on the beach. The drink was not made the way we asked. We asked for a sex on the beach but instead of pineapple please use orange juice. Yeah, she ignored it and used pineapple. I only took a few sips before I dumped it over the side of the boat because it was just nasty. They charged $12 for drinks on the 2nd level, on the upper deck they charged Amanda $10 for the same drink and on the 1st level they charged Amanda $14 for the same drink. So, I suggest you do your research and ask at each bar on each level to see who has your drink for less before buying any and then keep to that floor. The one that was $14 had the least amount of liquor in it. How do I know this because Amanda had me try it and yeah it tasted like juice. I had switched to soda after the first bad drink and the soda was not any better of a choice because the carbonation was not working which made it taste bad, so yep, water it was for the rest of the night. They also served dinner, but I only paid the $22 for the cruise and not the $55 that included food and you had to be there an hour earlier then we arrived if you were going to eat in. The DJs on each floor had their own way of doing things and what kind of 90s music they played so you had a choice of what to listen too. Sometimes I swear the lower level went a little too far back and was stuck in the 80s music for a little bit. As for WHERE the DJ (DJ himself was great, but of course I didn't catch his name) on the top deck was placed SUCKED. He was right in front of the bar so people trying to dance or get drinks kept getting in each other's way. They need a better solution for placement. The people who took the cruise were all very well behaved. Not one fight or disagreement or argument among anyone that I seen. And I was all over the boat. Smoking was mainly along the sides of the boat on upper deck or front or back out of way. Fair warning if you go out to the front desk on the lower level watch your leg/hip/side if you go stand behind the door area, there is a small unnoticed bar that sticks out. You WILL notice it once you smash into it. And believe me it hurts. 2 of us hit it within minutes apart and yes it left a bruise. They need a small pool noodle piece on it to soften the blow. We waited to get off the boat because a few of the ladies had to finish their drinks. The departure was pretty smooth. There were however a couple people who on the streets started to scream and yell but that's about as far as it went as we walked to the car and headed to "I Love" for a slice of pizza before heading home. *I would have to give this cruise experience 3 stars. I had to take away because of the drinks, the set up and the way every bar was priced differently. Would I do it again. Not anytime soon. read more

We had the pleasure of enjoying a retirement party for my wife's school on Saturday. I was a little hesitant going in because the thought of being trapped on the boat for three hours scared me! The crew was friendly and the food was much better than I expected. It was essentially a floating banquet room and sometime prime rib can be pretty bad in these situations. Definitely not the case here. Mine was perfectly rare/raw - just the way I asked for it. The roasted potatoes were so hot I had to cut them and then wait to enjoy. The vegetable medley was cooked properly - something that is often an afterthought as these can sometimes languish in a steam table. The only minor flaw was the servers were so anxious that as soon as you put the fork down they thought that was the cue that you were done and offered to take you plate. Reasonable cash bar - only $4 for a whiskey sour - especially considering it was a captive audience. Lots of fun on the Capt JP! read more

Update: Reply from business owner: To the best of our knowledge you never actually rode the boat, but instead had an issue with the boat operating in downtown Troy near you. You chose to leave negative reviews, including posting a photo of a dumpster, and encouraged your friends to do the same. Our quality of service shows, despite false reviews. My Response: You may be thinking of someone else, given the plethora of complaints from your other neighbors. I am glad that over 4 years later you have chosen to address some of these comments, but it's also revealing. Let's say I did not ride the boat, ever. Does that mean I don't have enough information to place a review, given that I literally lived across the street from your business for years? I would say that I am perfectly qualified to talk about your customer service. As a neighbor, I received very bad service. As a potential customer, I received bad service. And as a patron, well, let's just say I got what I expected. I have never encouraged others to post a review, but I know plenty of people who had complaints. My worst experience in all of this was trying to discuss the "neighborly" issues while in your office on River St. Besides just being rude, you wanted nothing to do with it. "That's not our job." "That's the city's problem, not ours." "We're not breaking any laws." This was by far not worth the 40$ a ticket. I am disgusted that my family paid that much for this "cruise". We went on the lock cruise, and I can wholeheartedly say that this trip was a waste. To start with, where we were seated the ceiling was dripping. Every few minutes, a big drop of water would splash down onto the table, or us. The food was gross. There were three options- roast beef, salad or ham. Sides included a plain roll, rice, and steamed veggies. The salad dressing tasted like it was sour, and the salad was a bowl of iceberg lettuce and stale croutons. Dessert was cheesecake, chocolate cake, or carrot cake. They were gross. The cheesecake had an odd, slimy texture to it. I think that it was frozen and then thawed. The cakes were dry. Only water was provided and you were charged 2$ for a cup of soda. I think that alcohol was even more. This was supposed to be a brunch cruise, but no traditional brunch items were served, and no coffee or tea was offered. The singer was horrible. The best description of the music was the sweet melodies of cats in a bag. It was so loud, you could not hear the person next to you. Many people in my family complained of a headache because of the extreme volume of the "music". To get away from the music, we went onto the deck. However, there is no shade at all on the deck, and there were people smoking on the deck. So you basically had to choose between roasting alive on the deck, or having your ear drums bleed. The other patrons on the ship were loud, and many would smoke on the deck. In fact, the side of the ship had cigarette buts stuck on it. Eww. The cruise was not scenic at all. I understand that this is not the company's fault, but I do believe that the tickets are overpriced for the Hudson. Highlights of our trip included seeing a dead fish float by, counting the number of shacks on the side of the river, and watching trash float by. read more

I came with a group that rented the entire middle and top floors. This presented as a great way to get us all together, with a DJ and unique experience. The staircase made for fun pictures, and there was ample dancing room. Our experience included dinner. As soon as I got on board, I moved towards the water station for a drink, knowing it would be an alcohol fueled evening. The water tasted like paint. I took another sip, had a few more people try it, and threw it away. I told the bartender and she said "I'll let the captain know". I tried a water from behind the bar, hoping it was the container, but it still tasted like paint. Even the soda drinks tasted like it, probably because soda guns mix with water, so I stuck to wine all night. a very dry dehydrating hangover followed the next day because we were afraid of the water. At dinner, someone warned me the steamed veggies tasted funny, and not to bother with them. It was an ok buffet spread, with tough meat, iffy lasagna, and a few sides. But the steamed veggies had that gross paint-like taste to them. They must have been cooked with water from the boat. Multiple people were commenting on the water, so I decided to speak up again, telling another waitress that looked in charge. We had a handful of pregnant women with us, and I was honestly concerned about them drinking whatever was coming out of those pipes, but they didn't even have bottled water to offer us. I wanted to give this a good review, because I had a great time. But I honestly think there was something wrong with that water and they need to address that. I've been on several of the Friday Night Music cruises - with and without the dinner - (and am planning on attending a few more this summer) as well as a Mother's Day Brunch and have never had a problem with the food or service. They said that they could fit us in on the Friday night "rock n roll cruise". The brunch we wanted was to celebrate my grandmother's 90th birthday so, no, Friday's rock n roll night is not going to work. We had all the family flying in for this brunch cruise. I had a similar experience to Elise B. We booked an Easter Brunch to celebrate my sisters 60th birthday and I got a call a few days before the cruise and was told that it was canceled. We had put a lot of work into setting something up to really surprise my sister.
