Came here with the wife recently, and we hadn't been in ages. I forgot how much fun it was to walk around and look at the farm animals (my wife grew up on a farm, in farm country, and was decidedly less amused... oh well). There were lots of cows, chickens, and rabbits to see. There were set-ups for antique farm machinery which were pretty interesting for someone like me who is into mechanical things. Their model train exhibits were underwhelming but frankly I will never turn down a chance to see toy trains. The same goes for their antique cars. The food vendors were not plentiful though they had nearly everything I could think of as standard fair fare (see what I did there?). Well, almost everything. I didn't see a popcorn purveyor, but all the other usual suspects were in full force. Some of it was a lot better than others. There were also the typical games and rides, though I didn't realize that our admission gave us free access to all of the rides until it was after dark. They might have posted signs at the door, but I didn't see them. It was a dark and stormy night, and the crowds weren't very large. This worked to our advantage, and it was pretty to see things lit up at night. We went into the food and judging areas and learned about their cooking classes and competitions. Perhaps we will think of something to enter for next year. I doubt peanut butter and jelly would win an award, but who knows? All in all, it was a fun evening. I am sure with better weather it would be a nice way to spend the afternoon. read more

Always fun and a good time. I would recommend going on one of the less busy days. Like Tuesday or Wednesday.

I went to the Altamont fair yesterday for my office picnic. I was pretty disappointed overall. We contracted with the fair for lunch and the food was at most warm and not flavorful. We were supposed to get bottle water as one of the beverage choice and the organizer had to argue with the staff and show our contract before they would supply it. There was something called the Two by Two zoo which was just sad, lots of unhappy looking animals in cages in a custom tractor trailer. The agricultural buildings were pretty cool, lots of kids showing their calves and goat. The midway rides look like they're about to fall apart. We were in line for the Ferris wheel and they could only load 16 people on a ride meant for 80. When one of the mechanics started banging on the ride with a sledge hammer to fix it we decided to get off and find something else to do. read more

It's pretty expensive to get in, I think that 17 for entrance is still the price. The downfall is, I won't ride the rides and I don't get an option to pay less. The food is fairly cheap, and there is a decent beer selection (okay, not really, there was like 3 craft beers but that's still more then I anticipated seeing). and walking around with a beer at a fair is a lovely way to spend the evening. All in all you can basically walk around and see everything in about 2 hours without any children. I mean, we walked every inch of that fair, and stopped at a lot of the animals but it was over too fast. We didn't however wait in any lines for rides, which would increase the time by a lot. As far as fairs go, it had a variety of rides and games which was nice even though I didn't utilize them. It had lots of different food options (though not a lot of vegan, understandable). It also had tons of space for local craft vendors and other local establishments to rent out. It's a fair, fair. read more

4 stars for the $17 entrance w/unlimited rides & if you want to bungee, it's $5! Food is cheaper than the OC fair. One must get the fried dough $4-5 (depending on toppings...tried the maple cream & cinnamon/sugar...confectioners sugar to be exact/self sprinkled). Fried dough is different from funnel cake in case you never tried before. I'm thinking it may be what I believe to be a beignet consistency, but I don't know for sure. Anyways, the fair was not overcrowded & had plenty of cool rides like the paragliding looking ride. read more

$19 on weekend including rides - $2 more than week Days. It's of value if you are going to go on rides- unfortunately bc hey had no admission price for non riders i had to make the helicopter Mom hard decision as to whether to let young teenagers go alone. Great police presence however i freaked out when i was told that the paid workers responsible for the rides were not consistently checking each seat before starting the rides! For some reason the quality of the company that supplies the rides has always been questionable to me. Can't place it but it feels like a sleezy operation. Not checking rides put me over the top. Given one road in and out you must time accordingly as the drop off took over an hour. Kids review of food was that most was good and reasonable prices. Next year hey need parent / no ride price and an incentive for multiple visits. read more

Had to update to give my Fri night review - while it poured rain all day, the skies cleared around 5:30 pm so we headed to the fair (3rd time this week) - it was great to see the hypnotist show in the Grove, the racing pigs, to enjoy a wine slushie from Thousand Island Wineries (amazing!) - and, this was unbelievable: we had shrimp cocktail at the place adjacent to the farm house museum! Who gets shrimp cocktail at a fair? We also got to see Fred Paul do his shearing demonstration - he used to shear our sheep and my daughter absolutely was thrilled to see him. He banters away as he does such an amazing job shearing - everyone loved that. Every night we have gone has been different and we enjoyed seeing things we didn't see including the big pig and piglets on the way to the midway from the antique farm machines. A man was playing the accordion in the farmhouse and that was very cool. Always a great time - I was happy to see all the winning animals from the open and 4-H shows. Thank you, Altamont Fair volunteers (there are so many) and staff for another great fair! read more

Too expensive!!! We don't ride rides and to pay $17 for a family of 6 is over $100. We'd love to go it's a great fair, but have a cheaper option for those that don't ride! read more

Usually a family favorite. This year we were faced with waiting for a tiger show that was cancelled, a circus tent that people evacuated due to heat hitting the 90s and above, and urine soaked wet shoes and socks due to the feeding zoo ground. The vendors were very rude at the food stands and about 50% of the kid ride operators were rude too. We try and go every year. Hoping next year is better read more

Do NOT waste your time or money on this fair. Every year for the past ten or more this fair is getting worst. Nothing to see or do like the old days. The ONLY thing is the pay one price that excludes the rides FOR ONLY THOSE THAT RIDE; the rest of us it's a waste of money. No grandstand entertainment !!!!!!! It's a JOKE read more

Actually, this is about one of the vendors at the Altamont Fair. But this makes the Altamont Fair look bad. Went to the Altamont Fair today. After walking in the hot sun, I began to feel sick. So I stopped at a shaded tent. It happened to be Cantillo's tent. They sell hot dogs, corn dogs, sausages etc. I really felt dizzy and sick and sat down in the shade. One of the employees there came up and said "can I get you anything?" I politely told him no, I had sat down because I'm a diabetic and I was feeling sick and dizzy. Did he allow me to just sit there? no... I wasn't a paying customer. He told me I had to move along! now I can see wanting seats available to paying customers, BUT...when someone obviously states they are a diabetic and SICK..do you tell them they can't rest a moment? So, my friends that were with me brought something. They came over and sat with me and gave me some water and a bite to eat to see if I'd feel better. The same person came over after my friend had finished and said the same thing. I did file a complaint with the office and have yet to hear back from them. Apparently the different vendor's make up their own rules, but I thought it was common courtesy to help someone who was feeling very sick. This made the Altamont Fair look bad, and made me leave earlier then I would have. read more
