2.5 stars maybe. Beer well kept. Usually 4 cask beers as per most Wetherspoon(s). V nice Ringwood on draught when I went. But ... it's like a Yates from the 80s - feel the need to watch your back - & that many of the clientele have ASBOs Huge place - has kegs racked near window from 2m ago which is baffling.

The White Star is in the Oxford Street dining area. Both sides of the street are lined with small restaurants and bars. Dining is outside or inside. The pub at the White Star offers a good selection of drinks and a nice menu. The rooms vary by size and occupy the 3 floors above the pub/restaurant. All are accessed by a staircase, if you have large bags, they can store them for you. Our rooms have always been very nicely furnished an immaculately clean. There's a coffee maker, and water boiler, tea, sugar etc as well. Air conditioning is adequate, the water pressure is good and the towels big and fluffy. The staff are welcoming and attentive.

The inn feels like an old ocean liner from the early 1900s without the opulence found later. Some of the rooms are named after former ocean liners, and thus named the White Star now for England's most famous line, owners of the Titanic and many others, now called Cunard. We had a delightful dinner. It has a pub atmosphere but a bit more upscale as a restaurant or tavern. To celebrate we got a bottle of the sparkling wine from Kent. It was quite good and went well with the meal I ordered a pheasant croquette on a bed of peas and Brussels sprouts. It was excellent My main was the chicken dish which was very well prepared and delicious. The sauce was good and the preparation better than expected for this type of establishment. The portions are substantial and I was quite full and unable to have a dessert. The waitstaff are cordial and really hustle when the crowd appears. A bit on the pricier end, especially with the wine selection, but the quality is good.

The seating hostess/waitress promptly greeted us and told us that we could sit wherever we wanted. We chose an outdoor table that overlooked the water. The menu listed foods such as eggs Benedict and pancakes and drinks such as smoothies, teas, coffees, and mimosas. I ordered the Mango Dream Smoothie (mango, pear, and apple; 4.5 stars) as well as the Pancake Fruit Stack (5 stars), small buttermilk pancakes topped with strawberries, blueberries, pomegranate, and maple syrup. I very much enjoyed their flavors. My husband ordered the Bumper Full English (4 stars), which consisted of fried free-range eggs, smoked back bacon (not crispy like American bacon), butchers sausages (a bit dry), mushroom, plum tomato, Heinz baked beans (different sauce), black pudding (not too bloody-tasting), hash browns, and bread. Our waitress made us wait a long time to pay. The total price was $41 pounds plus gratuity.

It was a lovely day, so we decided to dine outdoors. They had a large drink menu full of wines, cocktails, mocktails, and smoothies. Prices seemed very reasonable. My husband ordered a pint of Peroni and I ordered an Aperol Spritz. The drinks came out quickly and since we asked for water; our server also brought us an entire pitcher of lemon water at no charge. For our lunch my husband ordered the Blue Cheese and Truffle Burger, and I ordered the BFC chicken sandwich. They were priced at £17.50-18.50 and both came with a large side of fries. The BFC sandwich consisted of super crispy fried chicken and a hash brown patty that was topped with a delicious special sauce. It was a little messy; but so worth it! I ate the whole thing! My husband said his Blue Cheese Truffle Burger was perfect, and that the portobello mushroom was delicious! We did not have a reservation; but there was no problem getting a table at about 3:00 on a Saturday. They had plenty of servers working and the service was exceptional. I would highly recommend a trip to Banana Wharf for a meal or even just drinks if you're visiting Southampton!
