I started with a half pint of Folly Road lager (recommended by the server), which was refreshing, light, and super easy to sip. Then came the fish & chips, and honestly it was one of the best I've had anywhere. The portions were wildly generous, and the fish was perfectly golden-fried with crispness that creates a loud crunch as you bite into it. The plump fish was tender, flaky and moist. The dish comes with mushy peas too. I appreciated that they set you up with salt, pepper, and malt vinegar so you can season everything to your taste, and you can request tartar sauce that's light, creamy, and great for dipping. Service was friendly and efficient, making the whole visit feel warm and effortless.

While planning our vacation, I added this spot as a must-see location and I'm glad I did. There's very little seating in this place, so if you get there while it's busy, you might not find a place to sit. We were early (4:30P) and had no issues. Kitchen doesn't open until 5:30P, so we just enjoyed beer until then. When we were able to order we split the steak & ale pie. Really, really good and huge portion. Thanks to reviews we knew that the portion sizes were huge - so splitting was already something we wanted to do. Service was really good / quick. The ladies that work there are amazing. Seems to be a good mix of locals and tourists. Highly recommend.

Our rooms have always been very nicely furnished an immaculately clean. There's a coffee maker, and water boiler, tea, sugar etc as well. Air conditioning is adequate, the water pressure is good and the towels big and fluffy. The staff are welcoming and attentive.

The inn feels like an old ocean liner from the early 1900s without the opulence found later. Some of the rooms are named after former ocean liners, and thus named the White Star now for England's most famous line, owners of the Titanic and many others, now called Cunard. We had a delightful dinner. It has a pub atmosphere but a bit more upscale as a restaurant or tavern. To celebrate we got a bottle of the sparkling wine from Kent. It was quite good and went well with the meal I ordered a pheasant croquette on a bed of peas and Brussels sprouts. It was excellent My main was the chicken dish which was very well prepared and delicious. The sauce was good and the preparation better than expected for this type of establishment. The portions are substantial and I was quite full and unable to have a dessert. The waitstaff are cordial and really hustle when the crowd appears. A bit on the pricier end, especially with the wine selection, but the quality is good.

I ordered the Mango Dream Smoothie (mango, pear, and apple; 4.5 stars) as well as the Pancake Fruit Stack (5 stars), small buttermilk pancakes topped with strawberries, blueberries, pomegranate, and maple syrup. I very much enjoyed their flavors. My husband ordered the Bumper Full English (4 stars), which consisted of fried free-range eggs, smoked back bacon (not crispy like American bacon), butchers sausages (a bit dry), mushroom, plum tomato, Heinz baked beans (different sauce), black pudding (not too bloody-tasting), hash browns, and bread. For our lunch my husband ordered the Blue Cheese and Truffle Burger, and I ordered the BFC chicken sandwich. They were priced at £17.50-18.50 and both came with a large side of fries. The BFC sandwich consisted of super crispy fried chicken and a hash brown patty that was topped with a delicious special sauce. It was a little messy; but so worth it! I ate the whole thing! My husband said his Blue Cheese Truffle Burger was perfect, and that the portobello mushroom was delicious! We did not have a reservation; but there was no problem getting a table at about 3:00 on a Saturday. They had plenty of servers working and the service was exceptional. I would highly recommend a trip to Banana Wharf for a meal or even just drinks if you're visiting Southampton!
