The name refers to their proposed connection between coffee and wine, both of which they specialise in. They recommend pairings of coffees and particular wines to try. I think they might have a hard time convincing us of this as the two don't seem like natural companions; but if I'd been in town for a bit longer I might have taken them up on the offer and enhanced my education. I love the layout and the way everything is informatively labelled, and the staff are keen to tell you about the varieties of coffee on offer. I confess I was more interested in a brunch snack at that point, and settled for one of the specials, avocado with red onion on sourdough toast - what a taste sensation! I'd never tried avocado on toast before, but it works really well. With a good strong Long Black on the side, I was content to sit and try and puzzle out the cryptogram on the wall depicting the relationships between coffee and wine with a variety of arrows connecting different letters. In the end I gave up, deciding it was just a bit of fun, but somebody please correct me if it does mean something, as it's keeping me awake at nights! Although they are open late Wednesday through Saturday, it's not really an evening restaurant-y kind of place; it's more of a tapas menu that they have on. But it would be perfect for a pre- or post- theatre glass of wine and a nibble, and it's just along the road from the Theatre Royal.

The staff are always friendly and keen to help you find what you want, whether it's a quick cup of coffee, a light snack or something more substantial for lunch. I've tried most items on the menu but my favourite is the sausage sandwiche with chilli jam, avocado and rocket on South dough toast. I always add extra bacon as well and it is divine! Admittedly I haven't been here in the evening all that often so can't comment on the evening menu but for a quick stop at lunch it is one of the best places in town.

It can get quiet busy, it tends to be an alternative scene in there, but it's very friendly and is mostly a good atmosphere. Most people remember it as the place with all the Absolut Vodka bottles with all the chocolate in them! They have a huge selection of (sickly) chocolatey vodka shots behind the bar. If you ask people where they've been they never remember the name just the vodka! They also have a jukebox in there, but its usually kept well topped up!

The wine isn't mad expensive, so that is a big plus, and the personnel is sweet. Small, friendly, a nice location just off the main shopping area, reasonably priced and generous portions. The food was delicious and worth venturing over for whether you are local or not! We had crisp halloumi, spiced aubergine with minced lamb, chilli peppered squid, pork belly and chips, a lovely crisp Pinot Grigio (my friend's a white drinker) and a couple of liqueur coffees. All this for £30 a head including a tip. The staff were efficient, attentive and charming. Young and energised, I loved the way all the front of house staff presented one table with a birthday dessert and sang with evident delight to the guest.
