However, the $800 estimate became a quote for a $3000 luxury brand carpet (Masland) that, when installed, was two sample-swatches lighter than the swatch from which we ordered; color varied from one part of the carpet to another depending on lighting; and it shows footprints when walked on. See photo. A color variance claim was denied by the manufacturer, based on comparing their roll to a scrap of the carpet they sent us rather than comparing to the swatch provided before ordering. None of these possible complications were explained to us in advance. The installation was excellent, though.

I googled the store, and left my contact information, on the website. I was happily surprised, when I received a call from Arlene. She was very pleasant, and patient with me(I'm a total novice with measurements), although she was busy, she invited me to visit the showroom, and speak to her son, about my concerns. I was shown my options, we set a date, and the installation was done. I very happy, and proud of the final job done! I recommend "George's" to anyone wanting a professional installation of their flooring needs. Beautiful showroom, friendly, warm, professional.

"Gimme three steps, gimme three steps, mister Gimme three…read moresteps towards the door?" (Lynyrd Skynyrd) After we had our hardwood floors and steps sanded and refinished, we decided to pretty up those steps with a carpet runner, which explains why we visited Galaxy Discount Carpet Store today. That decision ended up being a FIVE STAR experience. Their two floor showroom is just incredible! Sample boards, rolls stacked on the floor in rows, area rugs hanging from the ceiling, gorgeous stuff everywhere. We met with Charlie and explained to him what we were looking for. He said that staircase runners can either be pre-manufactured in big rolls, or custom cut from carpeting meant for rooms. We knew we wanted a runner in some shade of gray to complement our wall color, and decided on a carpet runner to be cut from a big grayish roll and then finished with black binding along the edges, to complement the black stair rail and contrast with the white stair risers. It was installed 72 hours later, and that was pretty amazing in it's own right. Communication with Galaxy was great. Charlie was a dream to work with, the installers called us the day before install to confirm the date and time window, and the van with two workers arrived as scheduled mid-afternoon and did a neat professional job on the install. Charlie's price was $140 less than one we had from a flooring company out in our neck of the woods, and the carpet quality was better at Galaxy. Everything went well, and the stairs look great!

I don't use price as my final determination. I also checked his reviews and they were all excellent. Shane came over my house to give me an estimate and show me some carpet samples. He was very professional and polite. I chose my carpet, put down a deposit and Shane told me when he expected the carpet to come in. He did advise me that there might be a delay due to supply chain issues. While waiting for the carpet, Shane was easy to get a hold of and he was very communicative. The carpet came in when he thought it would and we scheduled the install. When Shane arrived to install the carpet he was very careful and meticulous. He put down clean gripping drop cloths wherever it was necessary while he worked. He made sure that his tools and carpet weren't in the way of foot traffic. Shane is a hard worker and you can see the pride he takes in his work. He completely moved our bedroom furniture, removed the old carpet and pad and installed the new carpet, and replaced our bedroom furniture, in one bedroom, in one day. He not only installed the new carpet but he fixed a squeak we had in the floors of both bedrooms. Shane made sure we were happy with the furniture placement and was very careful moving it. The next day, Shane removed the furniture, removed the old carpet, installed the new carpet and replaced the furniture in our smaller bedroom/office, in a half a day. The products Shane uses are top of the line, unlike Home Depot and he goes above and beyond when installing the carpet. Shane is professional and trustworthy and does incredible work, you won't be disappointed.

So when I walked into Fovaama Rugs and Carpets in Scarsdale, NY, with an urgent need -- an 8-foot round rug for one of our toddler classrooms, needed right away -- I wasn't sure what to expect. We were in the final stretch of preparing for the new school year, with our new families arriving this week to meet their teacher and tour the classroom before their little ones begin. From the moment I arrived, the owner welcomed me with genuine warmth and immediate, professional attention. Just four hours later, I left with a beautiful 8-foot carpet for our circle area -- the heart of a Montessori classroom, where children gather each day. Our staff was overjoyed, and it looks absolutely beautiful in the room. I had come in simply looking for something modern, durable, and easy to clean, but I was genuinely moved by the artistry all around me -- stunning oriental, hand-knotted, and hand-woven rugs, a remarkable collection of Persian pieces, and flooring of every kind. What stayed with me most, though, was how it felt to be cared for by someone who clearly takes such pride in their work. Working with the owner was an absolute pleasure. It's rare to find a business that combines this level of craftsmanship with such kindness and integrity. I wholeheartedly recommend this family-owned and family-run business -- and I'll be returning for years to come. Write a message...

So I found these folks just a few miles away from where I live. They were attentive, came over in a moments notice to give me a quote and were very communicative. The worker came over, saw the cosmetic issues (small board replacement in master bedroom floor, circular plug hole in kitchen floor and scratch/scuff marks in another bedroom). A few days later, FFbM texted me to go over the deets, it would be either $500 or $600 depending on what process I wished to happen, so I chose the easiest option which was the cheapest. (I should note the flooring guy who came to the house, also quoted that price to me). Last week I stopped by their storefront to pay a 50% deposit and schedule the appt for Tues, Feb 14. She told me mornings were best for everyone and I asked if we could do it later and she said no, 830am was the best time so I said yes. 830 came and went, as did 930 and 1030am. No call, no message, no texts. Nothing. I called the number, they were closed on Tuesdays. 1130am, I get a knock on the door by the same worker who quoted me. I complained that she (the owner) told me 830am and it's 3 hrs later and I have things to do on the outside world. He said he was on another job and was unapologetic. Then showed me the work order and underneath the timed appt, it said "show up anytime". Um no. I re-showed him the scuff marks and scratches as well as the plug hole and board replacement and he said it would cost double that. I showed him the text and reminded him that he saw it all weeks prior and gave me the same quote for everything. He denied it. "She said you just needed a board repair in the bedroom." Um no. I know what I need done and I specifically told her in person and in our text communications. I asked how much for fixing just the hole/board and he said $500 all in. I complained b/c I know even with raw materials/covid and a profit margin and labor included that it was too steep to justify. I told him I would contest the other $250 or put a stop on the initial credit card payment. He said he's merely an hourly worker and has nothing to do with the day-to-day procedures at the shop and if I dont pay the $250 for the work, then it would come out of his pocket. Seems rather punitive, the woe is me line. So I refused service and told him I wasnt mad at him per se, just his boss and misinformation. He left. 10 minutes later, he knocked on my door and said his boss told him to give me my money back, which he did, in cash. So that's nice. FFbM doesnt have a ton of reviews on the internet, but a few are negative and sounds like what I went through, including one user calling it a "bait and switch" which is how I would characterize my situation.
