It has that charming, welcoming dive bar energy that feels relaxed, unfussy, and immediately easy to like. It is the kind of place that feels lively without trying too hard, which is very much in its favour. One of the coolest surprises was the speakeasy tucked away almost in plain sight. It can be rented for private events, and it is much larger and more finished than you might expect, with a really nice atmosphere that makes it feel special without losing the bar's overall charm. They also have a great outdoor area with a large TV display, which adds even more appeal if you want to linger a while. And then, of course, there was the happy hour deal: $8 for a shot and a Surfside, which had us at hello and frankly required very little convincing. I laughed when upon check-in on Yelp I was made the Duke of the Anchor bar. Let me tell you this place is so good I will keep coming back here on each visit to Detroit.
